Why does no one use the Zealot?

I keep being told that the Nomen is better than the Zealot, so I played around with a couple of fits to check, and I found the Zealot to be quite a decent ship, definatley better than the Nomen in terms of damage and tank.

The only thing was the Nomen is ~600ms faster than the Zealot (With MWD).

Is this really that big a factor when dealing with these kinds of ship?

Cheers,

slow, also no drones.

they're really just for AHAC fleets.

It's all about use. Nomen is a kitey solo/small gang MWD fit ship. Zealot excels as an AB armor fleet ship.

zelots are the best ahac but thare over shadowed by ishtar
if no ishtar zelots be popular
beam zelots have 100 km range and hi exposive rezist wich bouncers deal wich are the long range drones

The only major drawback is the crazed notion that the inventory would look so much better if merely rearranged ONE MORE TIME.

Same reason nobody uses the Eagle or the Muninn*: The Ishtar simply does all of their jobs better.

*Within typical Zealot engagement ranges. Eagles are still great long-range snipers once you get past 150km or so.

Nomen is better for kitey work because it`s 800ish m/s faster after you fit the usual 2 speed mods on both ships and that's a BIG deal for a kite ship, Nomen is also much more agile, other than that the Nomen can use drones and have a spare high for a neutralizer which are other 2 important things.the zealot just have a better tank than the Nomenbut a kite ship it`s not that important.

The Zealot is a ship designed to snipe and to take a beating on armor HACs fleets and it`s excellent in that role, the only problem is that the Ishtar atm it`s just so good in that role that put all the other armor hacs in "second choice" position.

I flew (and lost) a few of them. I liked them, but they aren't very forgiving ... that is, they die fast if you make a mistake.
And they cost enough, that they hurt when you lose one.
At some point, the cost + the death rate, starts to make the Nomen look a LOT better.

All in all though, a couple of my best/funnest fights, were in a Zealot.

THIS
The Zealot is a really nice AHAC... it's just that the Ishtar is so OP that there is no reason to use any other HAC.
The NOmen has a different role.

I like the Zealot for killing battleships. The Nomen's tank just won't suffice. The Ishtar is better at this but sometimes you just gotta have some fun and fly what you enjoy.

It has no drones, it can't fend off short range targets so it's generally useless outside very specific (group) stuff. Would it have a 25m dronebay it'd be used a lot more.

Zealots are used quite a bit in AHAC fleet doctrines. Tiny sig radius, good damage projection. But they are a fleet ship, and require support ships to perform effectively. With dedicated tackle and logi, the Zealot is among the best HAC the game has to offer.

Zealot really shines in damage projection in fleets. However, being drone-less and having 'meh' dps, it could do with an extra turret (or in a more general sense, a buff to med lasers).

It's all T3's and BS in fleets right now because of the EHP. Firepower means nothing when you have 200 people shooting the same target, it becomes more important to stay alive long enough for logistics to rep you up.

The only HAC that is viable in fleets is the Ishtar because it can speed tank WITHOUT detroying its own tracking (stationary sentry drones, HIYA!).

In small gangs the NOmen kites better, which is what most people like.

For solo work i'd probably go with the zealot tbh. Pretty mean tank for brawling with.

Brave uses Eagles.

I should have clarified that I was talking about within typical Zealot engagement ranges. The Eagle still has a solid role as a long range sniper that pretty much no other cruiser, even the Ishtar, can fill. It's kind of a niche role, but it's there.
