Hi All!

I am new to EVE and there are a lot of aspects of a game that are still very confusing to me. I will appreciate any advise I may receive.

I have 4 characters (each 2 weeks old, 1 per race), and I am trying to decide how train them to get most fun and try different roles.
Currently I still have more questions than answers Sad

So far I see my chars in the following roles:
1) Caldary ( me Blink ) - PvE (Agent missions), Caldary ships to Raven, Missiles.
2) Gallente (did 1 remap: I:30, P:18, C:18, W:17, M:22) - Drones, Research, Gallente ships, maybe later Manufacturing or Mining
3) Minmatar - Solo PvP. Sniper, Scout, Projectiles, Minmatar ships
4) Amarr - Amar ships, Lasers, ?????

I am going to stick each char with her race's ships for first year at least.

Can you please help me find answers for the following questions:
1) Which char would be good for covert Ops?
2) What roles are Amarr ships are best for: Tanking, Tackling, Exploration?
3) Or would it be better to stick Ammar with Trading and Mining and use train Gallente for something better with her race's ships?

The main idea is to get most fun for casual playing. As I am not going to spend too much time online and may vanish from time to time for few days/weeks from game. So I do not expect to be of anything more than a burden for Coprs to care about joining one.

Hello Kara Ling,

I will do my best to answer your 3 questions as best as I can.

1) There is no "best" for which one might be better for covert ops over another. They only difference between the races is what type of bonus damage each class does. For instance the Nemesis does bonus damage to Thermal torpedoes. So it really depends on the type of damage that you might want to use.

2) Well all of the three types that you asked can really be done by any of the races. Amarr ships have unique ships such as recon ships like the curse that have bonus energy destabilization (neuting) abilities. While Caldari are specialized with Jamming(ECM) warfare for their recon ships. So it really depends on what specific task that you want to do. There are lots of ships out there so you might want to take a look at them and see what you need. That is really specifically geared to recon ships of course there are other types of ships with other bonuses and such.

3) Again this is really up to you in what you want to do. The main thing about the starting races is really what skills you receive initially. Beyond that you can train one character to fly all four races if you wanted to.

I would take a moment to take a look at http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Careers as it can help guide you on different paths that you can take. Also http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/New_Pilot_101 is another helpful link that is able to guide you on the path you wish to take.

I hope this was helpful in some way as a lot of these questions depend on what you want to do in EVE. If you have more questions please feel free to ask them or look in Rookie Help chat or Help Chat channels.

First, you can't train multiple characters. You can only queue and start skills training on one character per account. You CAN however train multiple races tech on one character. In fact, you would want to keep it to one character, so you don't have to repeat months of redundant train time like turret skills that make you track targets better, or engineering skills that improve your use of all ships.

Stick to one character. :)

1) For casual playing covert ops cruisers I would suggest Caldari (Falcon) or Amarr (Pilgrim). They're electronic warfare bonuses are very nasty 1v1 and your covert ops cloak lets you pick and choose fights to a great degree.

2) Racial ships are not so restricted. They have ships that are 'good' at lots of things. Learn to evaluate the bonuses. Like a bonus to 'optimal range' would favor weapons with large optimal ranges, vs 'falloff distance' would favor weapons with larger falloff distances as the bonuses are percent based and best increase what's already strong.

3) Industrial ships are separated from the combat ships, so you won't lose or gain any train time by sticking to one race for combat/industry. Gallente industrial will give you the largest capacity small cargo ships. IIRC Caldari has the largest mega hauler type, and Minmatar will give you the favored blockade runner because of it's extra high slot (covert ops cloaking transport ships for high risk areas... think Han Solo style smuggler except the empire won't board you they'll blow you up and loot you).

If you want fun and casual play, I would suggest looking seriously at flying a Basilisk or Guardian in order to take part in Incursions or roaming PvP gangs. Alternately, investigate training for a Talos or Naga with T2 large blasters fitted.

Of course that's just my recommendation for today.

Alternately, learn to fly all races T2 frigates: Covert Ops, Stealth Bombers, Assault Ships, Interceptors and Electronic Attack Ships. The skills you will need to fly those ships will help you immensely in your further training.
