Is it worth putting anything less than large guns on a Maelstrom?

You are most certainly not ready to fly a battleship against against other players. That Maelstrom will just become a comedy killmail for someone like me. I'd recommend you start pvping in frigates in one of the faction warfare zones and go from there.

A medium arty Mael in level 3's may not be too bad for a newb. The damage may blow, but it'll be pretty much unkillable.

So now we've established it's for pvp, what kind of pvp are we doing?

Because I've seen comedy killmails where small ships engage a large one and get obliterated because the large one had small guns fitted.

Seriously...get your ass in a corp and pvp with them. You will learn A LOT.

BS kinda sucks for PVP, so why not trying t1 cruiser and have some fun with them?

RHMLs are good for taking out cruiser/bc sized ships quickly
