I'm fitting a cov-ops frig for null relic sites. I'm pretty newbish when it comes to pve. All relevant skills are at 4. Should I rig it for scanning or hacking? t1 rigs or t2? I'm also kicking around the idea of a t3. I can fly all of them. I haven't yet but I can. It just seems like a large investment for cloaky-scanning-bubble immunity. Then again, maybe not. .. that's why I'm here, for advice.

If you can fit a T2 Probe Launcher, or are willing to buy a Sisters Probe Launcher, fit one each of the T1 Emission Scope and Memetic Algorithm rigs, as you should have enough probe strength to scan down sites, particularly if you have a 5th mid slot for the strength bonus module.

If not, then it's your choice. The rigs are cheap enough that even if you don't like a particular combination, you can rip one or both rigs out without caring about the cost.

I need some advice on this matter as well.

My case is, I'm going to train scanning skills to level 4 and then focus in training other stuff so I'm not locked in the profession in case I get bored (did so in highsec exploration already). I'm using an Astero since it requires approximately 30 days less training time to reach "max level".

So, for an Astero with probing skills and hacking skills at IV, what would be your recommendation? A cargo scanner feels like an utmost necessity to me to start off.

Any advice or link to as for how good skills / fit bonuses are required to make it work would be really helpful.

If they haven't changed it since a year ago, nullsec data/relics were a PITA with T1 analyzers. The hacking mini-game was quite hit-and-miss (even with some 'strategy'), especially for the higher-value sites.

So +1 for virus rigs until you get T2 analyzers.


Also, try lowsec. When I was doing data/relic, it was much safer and had much more available sites, although less valuable obviously.

For me the difference was:

. Lowsec: jump in system, scan sigs, at least 1 in 3 had data/relic, hack with people in local paying attention to dscan, never died --> around 50mil/hour

. Nullsec: jump in system, scan, maybe 1 in 10 had data/relic, one person in local = highly probable death (died 2-3 times because waiting for local to clear was too boring for me) --> still 50mil/hour (due to site scarcity) + high chance of a loss


Depends on where you explore, I guess. Going through wormholes to uninhabited regions of null could be a good idea, for example. I got bored before perfecting the strategy :)
