I didn't mean RL. I meant forum life. At some point you realise how much time we waste here and leave, spew around like you think you are on a forum in other parts of the net, calm down, forget all the negative things and find another forum or come back to one.

Hence, cycle.

Nope. Been here for a long while already.

I too once got infected with the GD-H4T3 virus and the Automatism that springs from it,
but unlike most I eventually realised and stopped it. ^_^

This is just cheap 24h entertainment. (:

I say that about gaming.

In high school I was verbally attacked a lot, physically, too big, so they didn't go that far. College however was different for some reason, I guess because there were more adults around, older pupils getting a mid life education and so forth. Suddenly, I went from being someone with a few close friends to having a lot of aquaintances, parties, et cetera.
Counted them up one day, there were 200+ in my contacts book that were welcome at my home and I had been to theirs' and there were many more others.

The same trend happened when I started work in another city, I got to know the people in 7/10 apartments on my floor, they had all their friends and friends of friends, we would all go out to clubs, pool bars, had a day each week that we would all cook for each other in turns (I always got take-aways until I made a web site for a hospitality consultant then I blew them away and immediately after resumed the old menu). Used to just walk into each other's homes, sit down shoot the breeze. If we weren't in the mood no offense was taken and they would leave.

I am not sure, which came first, the chicken or the egg. Actually, was it the documentary that was made about us or did I start seeing the patterns before that?
It crept up on me some time during that year. I started knowing people's anicdotes, hearing their pet subjects, the gripes, the same old things over and over. Spinning in ruts.
Quite gradually, I started to drift away. I would respond if contacted but I started not making any effort to contact these people that bored me so much.

I discovered Anarchy Online. Downloaded it thinking it was a MUD, the Internet was so bad. Then left it installing. Seeing grapics I was like, "Curses! Shareware!"
Now all bets were off.
Friday night, eat, plug in. Sunday morning 04:00 grab 4 hours of sleep, play until 22:00 sleep until 06:00 back to work.

I hit the point of being so sleep deprived on a Saturday that those friends that hung on dragged me to a night club, which was notoriously loud and I fell asleep in a corner. They didn't know what to do, if they should touch me. They thought I was drugged or dead and maybe they should call the police.

Changed cities because my Gran had Cancer, made no effort to make any friends. One forced herself on me but it might have been for security against hijacking; as we worked together in an industrial area.. Avoided going out, ate sandwiches for two years and saved up to move hemispheres.

New country, new city, one friend that was a house mate.
Next city, one friend that was a colleague.

Since being in this country with this recession, I have spent a great deal of time unemployed. Gaming makes avoiding people very easy. They might like my company but I can't be bothered to seek out their's. Spelling it out, networks and being a social well balanced creature means more jobs and better employment.

TL;DR - Gaming is a cheap, easily accessible entertainment and it easy to avoid people but it will impact on your real life.

This is why I chuckle each time someone says that socializing is so important in EVE. Come on. If I had *any* social life, I would not be wasting my time with silly Internet Spaceships...

This deserves a true response from the player.

It's short.

I never had lots of friends. They **** me off.
I also do not care about making friends. They **** me off!
I could make dozens of friends by being just like them, but I don't ...

You guessed it ... it pisses me off.

My real life is nothing you would understand and your statement about avoiding people having impact onto my
real life has no value when it comes to me.

Of course it affects "real life", but oh boy the amount of people who are literally unable to comprehend any
explanation about what horribly mindless, soulless, consciousless creatures human beings in the so called
modern western world have become makes it really, REALLY easy not having or wanting a "social life" at all.

It would be time and effort wasted on beings who do nothing else but constantly lie to themselves and others,
have no real understanding of how they or their minds work, who have nothing left in their lifes than being
slaves to employers, hunting pleasure and distraction without a single shred of evidence that they are able
to think for themselves.

I understand that you mistake me for anyone else ...
... but do not. I am not like that.

When people whine about griefers in this or any other game ...
... and I call other people griefers, because they are OH SO HORRIBLE PEOPLE ...
... I am unable to not find the irony, everyone else is missing, highly amusing.

You missed the part where, I am now, not making friends and avoiding people. I am unbiased, don't descriminate, you can be any race, religion, creed and so forth; I am a speciest and hate everyone on a general level equally.
I like quite a few individuals but humans as a species could do with a restart. I hate going shopping, especially to a mall, those people in the way, shambling along, jaws slack, staring into windows, empty headed like zombies.

If we believe in evolution, why then do we not only allow the dim and feeble to survive but also breed?
License for a car, for a dog, for a cat, for a TV, to pick your nose, to stare at a tree but do we have a license to have children? Noooooo .... "Everyone must have the right to have children" Yeah? Who speaks for the kids that are going to be born to parents that are immature, poor, mentally limited and give their kids no future?
If I said, I was going to grab an orphan and throw them in with some mentally handicapped people that will hardly be able to feed it, you would say I am cruel and stop me but if I tried to get those handicapped people sterilised you would also stop me.

** you as in people in general.
