which ship for a goal

I want to get into excursions and after reading up on them I see the recommended are Vindi and Nightmare, possibly machariel.

Which one would you set as a goal to go after? I can currently fly missile ships only. My gun skills are at 100k sp so pretty much starting almost as a fresh character.

I have no preference to a particular gun type or ship to sway me. I will be selling my Rattlesnake, and Tengu to fund this switch over and will have 1.8 billion isk to spend once I do get the skills up.

Bonus points awarded towards a ship that can also continue to run level 4's while being fitted and rigged for incursions. I tend to kill everything in missions not just blitz... sometimes I come back in my noctis and salvage... other times not.

If you have 1.8 billion ISK currently, I would suggest you avoid the Vindicator and Nightmare, as you can't absorb the loss of one of those ships.

Get started in something you aren't spending 60% of your EVE wealth on (fitted). Come back to the Vindi or Nightmare if you discover you enjoy incursions and also learn how to avoid people like me.

I am not sure if solo missioning in a bling fit incursion runner is necessarily the best of plans.

Anywyay, never mind that. A sensible thing to do will be join the incursion channels of the communities you are interested in and after lurking for a short while to get a general feel for who is who post explaining you are new to incursions but thinking of buying a ship and doing incursions and what do they suggest/need.

Ships aren't goals. They're equipment. The goal is the thing you want to do using the ship, and to be honest it doesn't really look like you have much of one beyond some nebulous ideas about PVE.

A pirate faction battleship with no real purpose is destined to become an expensive lossmail.

Just confirming:

A. Ships aren't goals, they are tools to do a job.
B. Do not put all your eggs (aka ISK) into 1 basket (aka a ship). They will break if you drop them.
C. Mission running in an incursion ship (which usually has bling on it to make it work good), is a good chance to have the 2nd part of B happening to you by someone. Not to mention, Incursions are fleet things, so your ship is fitted to work in combination with the fleet. Which also means, it will suck at missions solo...cause you don't have the fleet to "add in what your ship is missing".

So to sum up:

Do not fly anything you cannot afford to lose!

Start out with a T1 Battleship for level 4 missions. Move up to a faction battleship for incursions once you have some extra ISK coming in. You can also do incursions in a T1 Battleship if you fit it right, you may just have some difficulty getting invited to fleet if there are other more shiny ships also looking to join fleet.

If you pick a ship you want to end up in (say for example a Vindicator), then you should start off by flying something similar that is T1 - perhaps a Megathron or something.

a mission a day keeps bankruptcy away. keep your mission ships, train gunnery skills and use the time to farm a few billion. problem solved.

I should buy an Ishtar.

Imo go with whatever ship looks best to you. All of them are used/needed and im sure you can do l4 missions in any of them.

Have fun, sold my tengu and got a gila instead. Running level 4s with it so you get about a 350m kill mail since the only faction item on it is a republic fleet 10mn ab rest is meta 4 or tech2... oh yeah 2 augmented hammerheads. Just because I asked advice doesn't mean I am stupid. I can't even train large guns because no skills, yet you assume I am going to buy a vindi or nightmare and stupidly fly it around with all my isk on it.... sorry not gonna happen. Wait about 3 month when I finish training gun skills and running the t1 gun ship of the same type as the ship i choose, so a hyperion or mael, then I will get a pirate gun battleship after that. Even then it won't be binged out. No blingy until you have more isk than you know what to do with.

I know that you don't advertise yourself as a target and while I know I will still get stalked so what, death is a part of this game so you have to accept it, and move on. I can afford 3 or more gila so no big deal.

Gila is amazing... drones round 500 to 600 dps, hit everything and don't have to even use anmo if I don't want to, like it better then tengu and the cost savings so with it... might have to get an Ishtar to try out instead of incursions.

Do not play EVE like the lesser games.
"Gear" is no supported goal and you are not better or worse with "bigger/stronger" gear at all.
This mindset will only put you into a ragefest as soon as it is taken away from you by a player.

People who aim for a specific ship usually neglect learning to fly the smaller ones,
which are cheaper to lose and learn. They also neglect necessary support skills
which allow you to fit your ship and have higher base tank.

Honestly I miss stated the topic. I like the smaller ships. I don't really bypass them and go straight into something I'm not ready for. My last response was intended for that person running locators on me. I am sure I came off as an ass hat but to assume by my question I was going to just grab a vindi and start running around with medium hybrids or something.... there are other ways to say essentially the same thing she did.

I guess my question would have been better put as which gun system do you like best for incursions... guns are guns to me so I didn't know which was better... asking which ship was the wrong way to put it though and I realize that now... live and learn.
I give up on this particular topic though, the best bet is for me to try the guns, see whicheap I like better.

a nightmare or mach can easily run missions while rigged for incursions, and usually only require a minor change in fits. no idea what incursion FCs want more these days, I got bored of incursions real quick.

The OP can sell those ships now, and buy them back later if their needs change.

Ships in EVE are consumables, not something you hold on to forever and get attached to.

no ship will be able to run missions while incursion fit, the point of an incursion fit is for max buffer and no local rep. If you go into a mission with no local rep, you will have to warp out a ton.

imo it doesn't make sense to sell them off now while he doesn't have the skills for the other ship. doing it that way would involve sitting in station for a month. He did say he sold his tengu for a gila, and that seems like a smart move, boo tengus. use the tools you have now to get better tools later.

Having fun is the most important. I have a maelstrom and a hyperion and the apoc in my hangar. I am working up my gun skills for them and once I get it good enough I will start running level 4s in them. To be honest the ammo swapping and no crystal use is really appealing right now.

In other news I fitied a sisters launcher on the gila and ran some combat sites. Ended up getting a pith a type small shield booster and some hardeners.. was a fun change of pace... the drone ones sucked though a target breaker bpc.... bleh

This is good advice.

If you have no skill points in gunnery then you must not understand guns or tracking. I strongly recommend you reading up on gunnery and tracking first, Eve uni has a guide on it and there is a flash based tutorial out there on the interwebz. Once you've done that focus on generic gunnery skills and only use the specific skills to "unlock" weapons for you until you figure out what you like. Like has been stated ships are not end points. This is not WoW there is no BiS.

Once you figure out which race of ship or which weapon system suits your play style best then skill more specifically into that. Any of the ships that you mentioned get used in incursions all the time. Also large turrets and Battleships take a long time to train. If you play around with turrets on some of the small and medium ships you should have a better feel for what direction to go in before you commit to having to train two races of Battle ship up for a faction BS.
