Wrong, there are a lot of people who play Eve who will play dust also.

Oh an I suppose all eve players sit on TS3 sipping claret, talking about the last classical music concert they went to right? I've heard a lot worse things in terms of vulgarity from eve players than Ive ever heard for the so-called "console kiddies". The stuff you get on console networks is immature bullshit from children. On eve online, you get immature bullshit from adults, which I think is far more cringe worthy.

Customer Loyalty: Discussed ways CCP can reward and encourage customer loyalty. A very interesting session, actually. This replaced the EVE/DUST link session; because of the ongoing reorganization, the team responsible for the link did not feel ready to make a presentation.

we're lucky if CCP itself has any idea how the DUST/EVE link is supposed to look like.

(somewhat reminiscent of the situation at the winter 2010 CSM summit when CCP was unable to show any Incarna gameplay)

As far as I recall they will be able to spawn wherever they want, we'll just transport "clones" that they can activate.

The thing is that as far as I understood, we will be also transporting all their vechicles, so even if they spawn at random somewhere, they won't be able to do **** without us, since we will be delivering the big cannnons.

You do realise that the average age of console gamers is 34? As far as dust not being around for long in a substantial fashion, what do you consider substantial? There are approximately 50 million ps3 gamers around the world, even if dust appeals to 1% of that market that's 500,000 players, which is at least double the number of players in eve. Even that is being generous considering the number of players who have 2 or more accounts.

Dust? Interact?

Surely you jest.

I guess you don't know why it was called "Dust"...

You're going to find out about one month after it goes online.

I think the interaction is going to be practically non-existent. I suspect it will be purely through a contract-like system.

If anyone ever looks at you and says,_ "Hold my beer, watch this,"_  you're probably going to want to pay attention.

From the E3 2011 Interview

"Halldor and EVE's Creative Director Torfi Frans Olafsson revealed that DUST players will even connect directly to EVE Online's massive Tranquility supercluster. "The EVE players and the DUST players will reside on the same server," Torfi Frans told us. "They will be in the same corporations, they will share the same chat, they are inhabiting the same world." To avoid lag, CCP will be launching geolocated battle server clusters around the world to handle the actual ground-based gameplay."

"The server structure for DUST is interesting from a technical standpoint, but it also opens up some exciting gameplay that wouldn't otherwise be possible. Players will be able to interact between the two games in realtime, so we'll have shared chat channels, voice chat, wallet tools and other services."

"DUST players will be able to join EVE corporations and vice versa. It's one world, and that means the same player-run megacorporations that roam the skies will want private armies to ensure their system sovereignty dominance or protect financial investments planetside. Likewise, organisations born on the ground may want to defend their planets from above, creating a new breed of capsuleer in servitude to console gamers."

As I've said before sounds like a logistical nightmare.

AFAIK nothing so ambitious has ever been tried using gaming servers, tranquility was unique at one time for most payers on one server at one time, though I'd imagine it's been surpased by online console games these days.

When the say they are locating locale server bases to 'avoid lag' my sense of logic rebels.

Lag is created by two things AFAIK overstreesed servers and 'ping'

Surely having servers non localised adds an extra layer of 'ping' to every operation TQ needs to sync with DUST servers.

Also what happens if a team forms from players in US,Europe and Aus, whose server do we use,

1. Our locale. which would mean Dust servers also need to sync with each other therefore more ping

2. The one with the most players. kinda defeating the purpose of localisation and extending ping for some.

As far as I see it they have a mountain to climb technically even if ( actually especially if..) the game takes of and becomes a huge hit.

I really hope that once dust comes online, they'll let me transport myself in some fashion.

If they make it so that pod pilots have to transport the players from planet to planet, no exceptions, then the game will die. Simple as that....

So, we'll just be transporting clone containers?

I wonder if we'll be able to buy them and stocks of dust-ie equipment up on the market, and keep them hanging around in storage in case they're needed.
I can definitely see myself keeping haulers pre-loaded with planetary defense gear to defend PI operations. Maybe just making them up and selling them on contract.

A simple google search for "average age console gamer" will give you a number of studies, I picked the most conservative one.

I think your confusing 'gamer' and 'console gamer' indeed a lot of the links do say around 30 odd for a gamer, the only study I could find regarding console gamers however said exactly what I quoted.

From what I understand is that you as pod pilot would have to move the war bages to planets you want to have a war on. From there the dust marines activate and do war on the planet you park the barge at.

Though the comment about capsullers being more loyal to the ground forces, did irk me as a bit strange.

Dust 514's CPM 1 Iron Wolf Saber Eve mail me about Dust 514 issues.

DUST will be another has-been FPS inside of six months, maximum, once the console-kiddies find their next "thing," just like every other FPS I've ever seen/heard of.

(I think CCP is doing something very, very stupid with this, especially not porting it to PC, imho...)

This link specifically refers to console gamers:

As far as your quote, how exactly is 40% a majority? If 40% are teenagers then clearly 60% are not.

Majority who said anything about majorities, we were talking about averages .
