Have anyone tried to what we usually do when we can't understand something? That is, to try to destroy it. Smartbombs?

It would be nice if this the beginning of the invasion of a new NPC type that we actually have to fear, meaning we can't win battles against them. Somehting new.

Goonswarm Federation under guidance of Rain6377 did alot of research on this, bringing some serious firepower into it. The result was the conclusion that these structures are impervious to any known weapons. You can read more about it here: 'Strange structures and mysterious Sleepers appear all over New Eden!' (IC view on the sudden appearance of the Structures & Seekers)

So far, not much new has been discovered since, except that the structures exhibit a few different behavioural patterns. Some stay in place, never disappearing, some disappear/appear after a time. Of these, some tend to re-appear at a different location while others re-appear in the same spot.
No pattern has been detected of yet, but this is probably due to the large number of unknown structures present across all the regions in Eve.

The Circadian Seekers are in some way linked to the structures, as their patrols seem to appear/disappear roughly along with the structures in most cases (not all! so there's something else at work too)

Ms. Ymladris... is there a centerpoint to look up ALL the information that has been gathered so far?

I'm afraid there isn't. The research into all the various stuff happening is very splintered at the moment. This isn't helped by the fact that most stuff might be linked (Thera, Caroline's Star, Unknown Structures etc) yet are being looked into by different groups (Wormholers, Lore-community (split in several groups!), random people & corps)

Doing my best to publish about it once enough new info has been gathered, but so far, not much new has been found regarding the Unknown cloaked structures since my initial news article on them.

I'm doing my best to keep tabs on it all, but it's hard. Best sources so far seem to be the discussion threads about them on General Discussion & Intergalactic Summit subforums. Still plenty of them to track granted...

I suspect it is going to go something like this:

- Sleepers have invaded Jove space and shattered their systems. (Hence the green smudge)
- Stars exploded.
- Now you, oh so brave EVE pilot must go and destroy the sleepers and help the poor Jovians.
- In return you will probably get more ships and weapons to make CCPs job of ever balancing the game more impossible (but hey! Shiny stuff to amuse you for a day or two)

Oh, right, the structure. Jovians probably hiding from the sleepers.

EVE is becoming shallow and puerile; it will satisfy neither the veteran nor the "WoW" type crowd in the transition.

Anyone get targeted by one of these guys yet? I got scanned yesterday (it was pretty and kinda tickled) but I never got locked. They gotta have some kind of passive targeting ability, correcto?

You don't get how balancing works at all.

For gun boats, you would look at potential damage vs tank. Role balancing becomes more tricky and not even that is right. Tengus have the most EHP with resists, speed and relatively low signature, combined with rails and long range.

Tengu: 200K eHP, 233mm, 632m/s, 1359 volley, 412 DPS, 36 000m optimal with anti-matter
Loki: 123K eHP, 189mm, 751 m/s, 1994 volley, 260 DPS, 19 000 optimal with EMP

So, let us look at the Loki then. The Tengu has 30% less volley but hardly a penalty against the Loki that wants to keep you far away so you can not web it .... but needs to come closer with their longest range weapon.

That is just two ships designed as closely as possible to each other. Not even comparing the Tengu against other gun ships.

So, who does understand balancing then? I don't think CCP does. P

The CCP version of balancing is to make everything end up sort of a mish mash of wishy washy sameness :D

Partially and with good reason.

Logi

-------------Cap stable ---||--- Cap transfer ------
Armour -- Oneiros ------ || --- Guardian ---------
Shields - Scimitar -------|| --- Basalisk ----------

Each is different in that they are have two factors but not three or all of them and each has a different combination.

For the most part, much of the design up to the T2 was rather solid in concept. Now they are handing out powerful abilities like being nullified to frigates and .... what the hell is with T3 destroyers?

Looking at EVE one way, you could say it has a balance of predators and prey. Some predators fight over the best hunting grounds but there is still a problem; CCP is constantly giving better toys to the predators and when they hit a point of being too successful, there will be a shift, probably a massive cascade (if they reach it), where miners, industrials and such just unsubscribe, for the most part quietly. Supplies will drop, prices will rise and the whining while hit levels unheard of before.

Then CCP will have the option to either seed all stations with NPC goods that players can just buy or leave it to the players to force the lower ranking predators into taking the roles of prey to keep prices down.

I mentioned this in another thread, and I think that it is the most likely scenario going forward.

This is the precursor to occupancy based sov. Every couple days the sleepers will begin to escalate their efforts to colonize our space since we destroyed theirs (assuming you believe that sleepers are just Jovian Capsuleers).

Day 1-3
Scout system infrastructure, PC and NPC forces.

Day 4-6
Begin destabilizing infrastructure and attacking any PC and NPC presence.
- Reduce Shield and Armor from all Player and NPC Structures.

Day 7
Destruction of Stargate Isolating the region from known space.

This would essentially force people to remain "home" to prevent losing their system to attrition. If not as day 6 approaches players will find that they will only have a structure in structure remaining, which makes for easy conquest by other player organizations. Or ultimately on day 7 lose access to the system through gates, and be forced to either enter via cyno, or WH only.

This also allows for the announced plan to have everything be destructible and for players to be able to build their own gates. If you let the sleepers destroy the gates, you must place one of your own gates to reconnect the system.

Ultimately it will force alliances to actually live in their space, and be active in defending said space, or over time that space will become easier and easier to flip.

Thats my 2 cents anyway.

Love it!

But seriously, just delete the "email alert system". Force people to "go look".
