Out of Pod Experience

OK I've been dabbling in the "pre game" content they have so far through their game client called the Cortex.

Right now they got some kind of card collection and "Brownie points" thing going. The whole thing is called "Big Damn Hero" and supposedly if you collect enough cards (or something - been to busy to study into everything) you get a planet with your own statue on it.
(yeah like the episode).


So far from what I read in the dev blogs, this game will be what I will best describe as the "Anti-Eve". Player ships do not get weapons turrets.

Before anybody goes running and screaming, I don't have a problem with that. If I wanted a game that was comparable to Eve, I'd play Eve and not bother having to learn/skill/grind in a new system like Eve when I have already done that in Eve.

So far messing around with the Cortex and running the trade routes (if you thought PI was clickfest you ain't seen nothing yet) has been at best what I would say "endearing". It's just plain funny. You can even win clothes for your future crew, like a Jayne hat for example.

If you liked the series, it's just pure entertainment. But yes it's the anti-Eve and has been a good load of lols and nostalgia about the series so far - worth the few bucks I spent on being a Big Damn Hero (mark the calendar: this is a MT first for me - yes the game will have MT but not for anything beyond vanity items. Firefly I think was worth the amount I'd spend on a pint of beer. )



Is this a stage where I can be like "Hurrr Durrr you better be worried CCP. Eve is gonna die!". ?

No.

FFO is the Anti-Eve so it's an entirely different world. There is no comparison nor threat to Eve. I would recommend FFO for laughs and clean entertaining fun and Eve has always and still is good for the srs business.

The only thing that I think FFO sets a great example for that I think Eve should have is the Cortex that exists across platforms. It'll run even on smart phones. Eve could benefit from something like that.
