Missions make no sense.

You do a bunch of missions be they level 1 or level 2 and they are mind fumblingly simple. Some are even just delivery missions (only doing security missions).

Then the next one (a level 2) all of a sudden is 2 gates. Each gate location has 6 cruisers and 8+ frigates, using ECM or other ewar.

There is no curve on the difficulty it totally utterly stupidly random. And the risk does not match the reward.

Generally speaking level 1 to 3 missions are mostly easy once you have a certain competency in core skills. There are a few harder ones like Blockade.

As to risk vs reward, the mission rewards are self-adjusting (slowly) to the time taken to complete. So in the case of the one you mentioned it may be that there is a "blitz" option where you don't need to kill everything, maybe just one ship or a group to flag the mission as complete.

If you don't like missions the simple response is not to do them.

Which is why I hate and don't do missions.
Only missions worth doing are lvl 4 and 5.

There are some missions that escalate in difficulty, namely Recon 1+2, where you're encouraged to move through the mission complex as quickly as possible. A lvl 2 recon mission spawns rats comparable to lvl 3-4 rats and a lvl 4 recon needs a fairly beffy set up. While you can kill all the rats and get the bounties from them in a properly set up ship, generally you want to 'blitz' the mission and go in a fast frigate (even lvl 4 recon) the LP pay out is generous for essentially 3 minutes of work.

Wow. Someone found out that PvE sucks in a PvP game.

OP, most people know that. Hence why not many have missions as their main gameplay but as a means to just make ISK so they can do what they like (which is most often PvP).

I think you have old missions and new missions, the missions most recently created being ramp'd up in difficulty to match current ships/weapons and skills. Maybe......

some are easy some are hard, the way the mission system is set up it picks a random one. honestly these days with the career agents and SoE Epic arc lv1s are way too easy, and I haven't really tried lv2s in a while but I remember there being a few ups and downs, with some of them. but at some point your skills and fit get to the point they all become a faceroll.

Missions need an overhauling. The addition of burner missions was good.

Personally I think there should be 6-8 "levels" for missions, increasing in intensity until you need groups to complete them. So for example, a level 2 mission should just be a level 1 that needs a group, and a level 5 should be a 4 that needs a group, level 6 should be lowsec, etc.

There is one level 2 mission in particular that is far, far, far harder than anything else (IIRC it is called Mission of Mercy).

I lost a Catalyst to it as a brand new player.

Tell me about it. I was nailing all my lvl 3 missions in a vexor with rail guns, and then all the sudden there is a mission that totally saps all my energy at 40 km, guns don't work, end is quick. So now I am trying to skill up missles over the next couple of days so I can try to complete the mission. This was a quantum jump in difficulty....

You're in a Vexor... drones are your friend especially if you're capped out, you should also check out the missioners bible Eve Survival.

You'll find different NPC's use different tactics against you, I presume you were up against some Amarr based NPC's by the capacitor warfare, fitting a capacitor booster and having some cap boosters in cargo may help.

Missions are so easy even a Cave Man can do them in a tanked/rigged "Battle" Procurer.

Yep, did all at Level 4 (security missions) that way to show it could be done using just drones. A very few required me to bring in my Vexor to finish off a couple of tanked battleships.

I feel like there are a bunch of lv2 missions a new player could lose a destroyer to, then again I mostly remember jumping in a cruiser and being awesome. then again a shield buffer caracal with rlml was kinda overkill...

maybe its better to try lv2s in a destroyer because sometimes it makes you actually be a pilot, then again the overkill of a cruiser is fun, and makes it go faster Question

FWIW, I lost an auto-cannon Rupture (T1 cruiser) to Mission of Mercy.

I then got another Rupture with artillery, and pwned those little beaches! Bear

Thus began my love affair with the arty-Rupture: L2 rupture fitting [DPS on paper doesn't really matter when you one-volley frigates, which are the vast majority of ships in level 2 missions. Mission of Mercy is the only level 2 mission with multiple cruisers, and it can safely chew threw those at range.]

I later did Mission of Mercy with a Thrasher (T1 destroyer). It took a lot of time. I had to overheat and warp-out a lot. But in the the end, I did it. [This was a plain stupid exercise I did for fun, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone sane. Destroyers are glass-canon frigate killers, not meant to deal well with cruisers.]

Mission of Mercy is probably the hardest level 2 mission.

I now do nearly all missions level 1-3 in a blaster Harpy (T2 Assault Ship frigate). The only mission it can't easily do, is a level 3 with a stasis webifer tower and an energy neut tower. [For those foolhardy but determined souls: fit a cloak, and get in close to nuke the neut tower first, warp-out, and repeat for the web tower. Personally, I'll pull-out my arty-Hurricane for that one.] A single web tower is more common, and never a problem for the Harpy.

Moral of the tale: Use the right tool for the job!

There is basically 2 sets of each level of missions, the low pays and the high pays. 3-low can be easier than 2-high etc.

When running for the same agent its easy to spot, just look at the LP payouts.

No idea if it applies to level 1, Connections III beat them forever.

Yes I should have said I was using drones, but thanks for the tip on cap boosters.
