I thought the new shadow was supposed to have negligible impact on performance...?

Sure doesn't seem like it, at least for me.

On my laptop, turning on shadow destroys my FPS while I'm at a POS.

@1920x1200

HDR: off
AA: off
Post processing: off
Shader/Texture/LOD: High
Shadow: Low

I'd get around 20fps with this setting, and as soon as i disable shadow, it'd jump to 60 (have vsync on). Heck, I can turn everything on high and still get 40+ fps as long as I leave shadow off.

Granted, my laptop is a bit dated at this point, w/ only a c2d and 4850m gpu, but I see the same impact, though to a lesser degree, on my desktop.

While I have no issue with a single client, I usually run 2, and the problem starts to show up here. Where before I can easily run 2x 19200x1200 clients @ 60fps with all the settings on high, now both would drop down to a choppy 30-40fps.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I certainly don't remember shadow having such a substantial impact on frame rates before crucible :(

I have the same issues. Everything max with shadows low = 30 fps. Everything max with shadows disabled = 60 fps stable.

So why not just leave shadows off? They really don't add much to the game. I for one am grateful that there are so many things that can be disabled/enabled depending on your system. In this case your system can't handle it soo.. off. More games need to do that rather than forcing the graphics on you. And just an fyi, most games with true shadows are hell for the average computer. There isn't much that can be done about it short of upgrading your computer. Shadows are known killers, good luck displaying them on a laptop.
