It's the new pirate ship of choice. I'm ditching my Onyx and sidelining on the Tornadoes a bit...

I'm kinda confused. How are they now more scary than stealth bombers, black ops, force recons or cloaky t3's were already? Same difference, yes? Well, except you can actually see the combat recon land on grid.

The difference is the absence of cloak targetting delay and the HAC-like combat performance. That and the absolute form of concealment - when a Bomber decloaks to do something the guy in the next anom might get some warning and some intel, a Rook won't show even when it's killing stuff.
I guess this will be particularly significant in WHs but it's going to have impacts everywhere.

Fair enough. It doesn't seem to be quite so overwhelming to me as folks seem to be making it out, but I am also admittedly dense at times.
On the other hand, for so many years the Rook was a pretty unpopular ship compared to the Falcon. It seems that giving it (and the others of it's ilk) a little love to make it attractive to fly isn't a bad thing necessarily. It's long distance stealth is something that we wont really see the consequences of until it's had some time to work for a bit.

Eh.
It's like a 5s targeting delay, isn't it? That's about the same time to land on grid, but if they don't land in range they then need to burn in range. In gateless things, cloaks will still be harder to avoid, because you'll see them landing and then they'll need to burn in range. Cloakies you don't see until they're decloaked. Doesn't really change gated anoms since you (should) see both jump in.

cloakies can also drop cloak as they are about to land on grid, eliminating that there delay. You get five seconds to crap yourself and then the lock hits like Ezwal willed it.

The real buff is with the cloaky recons, especially the pilgrim, the combat recon D-scan immunity is a gimmick that doesn't add that much to it all. Lach got buffed but I doubt it's really going to change much other than better survivability. Simply put; you will still not see many combat recons because the tactical advantage of the covert cloak is just too good.

Unless you're sitting at zero on a warpable object, Combat Recons won't be able to warp directly to you unless they deploy combat probes. Those combat probes are still 100% visible on D-Scan. So unless you're flying poorly, if you are already in an anom/site/whatever, you should be reasonably safe from Combat Recons.

I feel like their real strength will be sitting somewhere and waiting for you to warp to them, but even then they will still show up on combat probe scans, so scan your site first and you'll be fine.

Many pilots won't adapt to this, and they'll be the ones that the Combat Recon pilots kill. Most probably will and they'll be fine. The sky isn't falling, parts of it just aren't showing up on D-Scan anymore. Blink

Putting it that way... lazy FW pilots may have more to fear than lazy WH dwellers?
I dunno. From a caldari perspective it's just kind of nice to see a real draw to flying the Rook now. As far as recon went it was all FALCON PUNCH for so very long, now there's a new dirty trick or two to be played by it's water-headed little brother.

Pirate ships? No, these are wormhole wreckers. I'm taking my combat recons into a hole and rotating statics and just generally wrecking people because I will be undetected with the exception of my new wormhole showing up as a signature in their system.

in WH I expect more people to have probes and to not be as surprised. In K space I see more of an issue with starting a fight and then having recons warp in (or perhaps they are already there you just didn't see them on d-scan), which is kinda already how the cloaky recons work, although the combat recons are a bit more powerful in other aspects.

interested to see how it plays out.

Grim days for explorers in low-sec incoming. Sites are prescanned and most of them may have bookmarks on cans. We'll see what happen, but i expect less ppl to explore. We don't have a counter-measure for that kind of ability.

SoE ships don't have enough CPU to fit expanded launchers, because they would overshadow covops.
This change affect all gameplay not only fleets. Really bad change.

So what you're saying is I'll have less competition for the sites now?

It will affect low-sec only. Pity, my best times in EvE. Even pirates was saying hi to me. It's the only part of security status with something to do with other players. Solo is dead.

That's precisely his point,
there are pretty hilarious "the sky is falling" posts all over the place,
the parallel isn't without merit.
