duel mechanics.....kinda lame

so if i got this right.....i undock in a crucifier and take a duel with a merlin.....following me?

im winning....to the point where im repping shields.....

he realizes im winning and de-agressed, and docks up......i win right?.....or at least i thought that would constitute a win.....no........he undocks in a worm

and i lose miserably.

this kinda feels like i should put that duel feature on auto-reject.

am i missing something?......did my overview decide to call a worm a merlin?

any insight would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. im only doing this to get the dust off my old rickety bones before i start FW......17 hours to go.

EDIT: for clarity.

is there a timer i missed?....that the duel remains active for as long as the timer?

he even got my pod....which....*bonus* no expensive clones anymore \o/

nothing to see here.....move along.

EDIT: for clarity.

i havent played since early 2009.....some new stuff happening.....just getting used to things.

he must have never actually agressed you, meaning he could redock since he didn't have the 60 second aggression timer.

The thing you have to keep in mind is that a lot of players are sociopathical jerks. Dueling someone doesn't mean that you both line up in a gentlemanly manner, walk 10 paces away and try to kill eachother in a civilized fashion. Dueling someone just means they are allowed to do total BS, without concord retribution.

And duels usually still have neutral logi alts or something. Basically dueling is just not a smart thing to do unless you really know what you're doing.

Best thing you could do in this situation, IMO, is to warp off once he docks. Duel's stay active for a certain time (I want to say 15 minutes, but not sure) so as long as he can survive to dock, he can easily come out in something flashier that can take you apart.

Enemy docks, you warp off, bounce around until your aggro timer is gone, then dock up and wait out the duel timer.

There's no such thing as a fair fight in eve.

Duel mechanic is useful to:

. Web your own jump freighter

. Fight a militia mate in fw when you're both bored


Other than that, just forget about it. And get out of highsec asap.

Militia can be replaced with alliance, if you're a lowsec pvp alliance that's NRDS (they shoot first, you never take sec penalties). Or you're trying to fix your sec status in a pirate lowsec alliance.
But it's fine to duel in highsec.. If they dock up, warp to a safe until aggression timer ends and then you up ship.

Never duel in highsec. Never fight in highsec in general unless you want 20 neutral logi in the fight.

That's why you have your own fleet of tornadoes 50k off. Alpha the logi away when they go suspect.
