Guristas rats are the worst kind of npc you can engage with an amarr ship.. He'll be doing pitiful damage with pulses since they orbit at 45+ kms..

I'd suggest an apoc and meta 4 beams. Apoc can fit a very good tank, its friendly for a beginner, doesn't have to worry about cap and can hit at 45kms with multi. Ask him to broadcast any npc's that target him and you both can take it out before his tank breaks.

Practically there no skill difference except for the battleship skill between the oracle and apoc.
