Denizens of Crime & Punishment, let it be henceforth known that I, Bronson Hughes, in coordination with several others, do hereby establish the Crime & Punishment Thunderdome series! Have a beef with someone? Don't think someone can walk the walk? Call them out here on the forums and settle the matter like true capsuleers!

There shall be two styles of Crime & Punishment Thunderdome matches: the Grudge Match and the Championship Match.

A Grudge Match may be called for at any time when a Challenging Party requests a match against a Challenged Party in the Crime & Punishment forum. If the Challenged Party does not reply within one month, or declines the match, the Grudge Match is forfeit with the Challenging Party named the victor.

A Championship Match may be called for at any time when a Challenging Party requests a match against the Reigning Champion in the Crime & Punishment forum. If the Reigning Champion does not reply within one month of the request, or declines the match, their title is forfeit and the Challenging Party becomes the new Reigning Champion by default. Only one call for a Championship Match may be active at a given time; all other pending requests shall be held until after the current match is resolved in order to be considered valid.

Crime & Punishment Thunderdome Match Rules & Regulations:

1. All matches shall be 1v1 unless otherwise agreed to.
1a. All items below assume 1v1 combat. Certain allowances shall have to be made for group combat.
2. Both combatants shall be in the same fleet in order to verify the presence (or lack thereof) of potential interlopers and to facilitate other portions of the match.
3. No fleet boosting unless agreed to by both combatants.
3a. All fleet boosters shall be off-grid so as not to interfere directly with combat.
3b. Combatants may use different boosters provided they are within different wing/squad units.
4. Combat shall be centered around "the field", a fixed object in space, preferably out of D-scan range of any warpable celestials.
4a. In a Grudge Match, both combatants shall warp to the field a range mutually agreed to prior to the match beginning.
4b. In a Championship Match, the Reigning Champion shall warp to the field first and the Challenging Party shall warp to the Reigning Champion at a range of their choosing.
5. Once both combatants are on-grid with the field, any combatant leaving the field for any reason shall be eliminated from the match.
6. The match is won when only one combatant remains on the field, and the remaining combatant shall be declared the victor.
6a. Any interference from any pilots not party to the match (i.e. combatants, agreed-to off-grid boosters, etc.) shall result in the match being forfeit with no winner being declared.
6b. Combatants shall bear the full burden of forum mockery and/or praise regardless of match outcome.
7. The system and location of the field shall be mutually agreed upon by both combatants for Grudge Matches, and shall be chosen by the Reigning Champion for Championship Matches.
7a. Systems shall be readily accessible to all parties.
7b. Systems with stations are preferred, but shall not be required.
8. Restrictions on hull classes, modules, etc. shall be mutually agreed upon by both combatants for a Grudge Match, and are chosen by the Reigning Champion for Championship Matches.
9. No refitting once the match has begun shall be allowed unless agreed to by both combatants prior to the match beginning.
10. All Crime & Punishment forum threads requesting a match shall include [THUNDERDOME] in their title in order to ensure that they are not overlooked.
11. An EvE-mail sent by the Challenging Party to the Challenged Party/Reigning Champion notifying them of the challenge is suggested, but not required.
12. Any promotion, advertisement, prizes, ticket sales, etc. shall be handled by non-combatant parties.
13. Combatants may stream and/or record the match from their point of view for their own purposes, for use on the forums, or for an audience.
13a. If agreed to by both combatants, a cloaked, in-fleet, non-combatant vessel may be present on the field to stream and/or record the fight using their watch list to monitor the status of the combatants.

As the current Reigning Champion, I will be defending my title in a match with Paranoid Loyd this evening. Results to be posted.

As with my match with Leto, Paranoid Loyd met me in Bridi and we battled without intrusion.

I warped to the field and waited on him. I was in my now battle proven Vexor Navy Issue, and on D-Scan, I see that Mr. Loyd has chosen to meet me ship to ship in a VNI of his own. He lands about 20km off of me and we launch drones. His shields drop almost immediately and his armor slowly ticks away, while I am taking...no damage? What is going on here?

He hits structure when I realize two things: first, he has been attacking my drones, one of which is already dead. Second, he is hull tanked just like I am. I quickly launch a replacement drone, and as I do my shields and armor melt away just as quickly as my opponent's had. Both of our structures are dropping. I hit 75%. 50%. 25%. My target's structure is dropping quickly, but is it dropping quickly enough?

It was, and I was victorius with 16% structure remaining and an empty capacitor.

Good fight Mr. Loyd. Good fight indeed.

How will you facilitate challenges? Will you assist in delivering the challenges even to people who do not want to fight?

Supposed I tried to challenge James 315...

Facilitating challenges between willing participants has proven reasonably easy so far. Facilitating challenges between non-willing participants will likely prove to be...interesting. I imagine that it would be very difficult to force someone to accept a challenge if they are not interested.

As for particular people...all I can say is try it and see. In my experience, people tend to be full of surprises. Pick an opponent, pick a ship type, pick a system, and go. Don't wait for content to happen, make it happen.

What I will say is this: I have no illusions of being a top-notch PvPer, and I don't expect to remain champ for long. Once I am defeated, I will gladly continue supporting Thunderdome in any way I can, be it logistics, setup, mediation, etc. Other suggestions for facilitators would be Tengu Grib, who offered to help promote the first event, and my brothers in arms Leto Thule and Paranoid Loyd. As denizens of Crime & Punishment, we are all likely scoundrels of different sorts, but I feel we are honorable scoundrels who are interested in seeing Thunderdome thrive.

With a little prep-work beforehand, it should be reasonably easy to keep intruders away, not by force of arms, but by hiding in plain sight. Pick a system that is relatively quiet, make a bookmark that's off D-Scan from any celestial, and, above all, don't broadcast the location in advance. Both of my matches to date were held with a dozen or more losec pirate types in two adjacent systems (Fensi and Ami) and both went off without a hitch because neither time did said pirates know what was going on.

One last note: I shall not be accepting any more challenges until after New Years Day. Should any challenges to the title arise between now and then, as per the rules, I have one month to reply, so the match will have to be arranged within that time limit. (i.e., should I get a challenge today, December 16th, I have until January 16th to fight.) My intended December hiatus has turned into a flurry of activity, and I mean to rectify that. Grudge matches may (and, I feel, should) proceed in earnest, and my offer to facilitate stands effective immediately.

I am glad to participate in any way that I can. Perhaps in the new year I too will face Mr. Hughes on the field of battle and taste his drones.

I do have a fondness of drones because of their flexibility, but I fear that over-reliance on a particular doctrine may negate some of that flexibility if I become too easy to predict. I will likely retire the VNI, at least for a while, to try out other doctrines.

Heh, fun fact, with the exception of the bulkhead rigs, I ganked that ship and entire fit from various haulers. Blink
