Any news on whether they will add faction destroyers to each faction's ship roster Question

I may be mistaken, but I think I've seen "maaaaaybe" in one dev post.
Definitely won't happen before full D3 release (so probably we shouldn't expect even a possibility of announce before this summer).

That is, if there's a good reason for those to exist. At least in the form of some role or concept.

Something that goes back to what was (supposedly) the original destroyer's job - CATCHING and DESTROYING frigates. Except use these to combat the newly bubble-immune interceptors in some fashion. You'd think that the pirate factions would be working overtime on some method to fight these now uncatchable capsuleers, to help curb incursions into their space.

Just a thought.

I'm pretty sure the job of destroyers is to destroy frigates. Catching them has nothing to do with it. That's what recons and other frigates are for.

Then what's the difference between a Battleship and a Destroyer?

The destroyer needs a lot less support, is faster, cheaper, easier to train for and can kill an inty on its own if the inty is distracted. A destroyer can also drive an inty off or prevent it from engaging.

Faction destroyers would be nice. Maybe the Caldari will finally figure out how put 8 matching weapons on one, instead of 7.

T1 Destroyers are superb at killing T1 frigates.

The bone of contention I think is the fact that T1 destroyers tend to get curb stomped by T2 frigates. Is this an issue? I'm not sure as I don't know how well I want T1 destroyers to perform vs T2 frigates.

Interdictors aren't actually bad fitted as Destroyers. Drop the bubble launcher and I think an Interdictor could go toe to toe with an AF. They do spit out obscene amounts of DPS but have relatively light tanks and large sig radii.

In the end I think you need to settle on AF's being your "T2" combat destroyer as that is a role they can slip into easily.

Actually a destroyer is quite a tought fit for an AF most of the time especially in brawl situations. They can easily field similar size buffers as AFs can but with more dps (not always, but generally). There are also a fair few kite destroyers with oversized prop or just alot of dps at range that can be hard to deal with while in an AF.

I'm mostly in it for the looks. If it looks good I will find a way to make it work good. Amarr ships just looks superb to the rest. Add to the fact of these new renderings and they look even more awesome. I also am about consistency and uniformity...

Faction: Frigate, (insert Destroyer), Cruisers, Battlecruiser, and Battleships.

yeah as is destroyers are an *anything you want dead before CONCORD shows up* and hardly used for frigates

A decently-skilled pilot in a well-fit T1 frigate can pose a serious threat to an equivalent pilot in a battleship with little concern. Try getting under Dessie guns; it won't happen. That said, I have personally seen a Tristan put a serious hurt on a fully combat-fit dictor. And while that fight was awesome in its own right, and my buddy's Tristan did end up going pop, the fact of the matter is that Tristan's are mediocre combat boats in the hands of your average pilot. The fact that a T1 frigate was able to violence a T2 destroyer so effectively doesn't really sit well.

Faction destroyers would/should alleviate the racial imbalance somewhat. If a Gallente pilot wants to do stupid damage, he flies a Catalyst. To compete with his potential damage output a Caldari pilot would have to fly a cruiser.

+1 to the idea of a Caldari destroyer with 8 matching high slots.

I don't care about simply adding more ships to Eve, what we need is more ROLES for ships. Just adding more ships to spam F1 on isnt very useful. New roles change game play, fleet compositions, doctrine fits, and tactics.

Since the destroyer and battlecruiser classes have the least number of role options, I would favor seeing any new roles concentrated in those classes. But merely adding a slightly shinier version of something we already have isn't a compelling addition to the game. Faction BC's did little for the game. Overpriced for the value of a BC hull, and no new role beyond what the originals did. While most navy faction ships are pretty good- their cost versus the cost of a more focused T2 variant makes them somewhat redundant. Pirate faction ships are in the same situation- they tend to be too expensive compared to their actual impact on a fleet's lethality, at least when compared to most T2 vessels. There are a few snowflakes out there, but are all very expensive ways of accomplishing a given task.

The difficulty with designing faction destroyers is primarily that destroyers at present are designed and fit in a very pointed manner, it would be very difficult to conceive of a faction design which didn't either effectively obsolete the T1 versions or prove so lacklustre that the T1s ended up doing the job better due to their lower requirements.
If the Cal Navy take a Corax and add a launcher, reducing the damage to compensate and improving the application slightly; then reinforce the defenses by a small factor (as they do with the Navy Raven for example) then the Navy Corax might be a pretty solid contender against Garmurs and so forth... but the Corax is already a pretty solid contender against Garmurs and so forth and the faction version is still going to be paper thin in terms of cruisers and other destroyers so the gains are really quite minimal.
A Navy Catalyst is an even worse situation - the same damage and a few more HP will barely allow it to outbrawl its T1 equivalent - a couple of lucky shots and even if both pilots do everything right the T1 can win...

The only option I can see working is to make the Navy Destroyers entirely new ships - similar to the way the Slicer, Hookbill, Comet and Firetail are - and that requires new models, new art and a whole new element to the balancing side.
