PVP in Eve

I learned today that I am not good at PVP. No, actually I'm terrible at it. I don't understand the mechanics, it's difficult to watch modules, distance to ship and overall the GUI is pretty difficult for a beginner pvp pilot. Did I launch drones? Is the ship in range? Did I overheat my module? Did I stop overheating? Too many variables to keep track and in too many places and it moves so fast I forget what I'm doing!

I even had a decent fit and I still can't take down a simple destroyer hull. I got close, but I didn't notice he flew outside my rocket range because I was watching the hull.... bleh. How do you do it? Congrats to those with the patience to learn this, I think I prefer shooters and aiming with a mouse.

PvP solo is like playing eve on Ultra Difficult. Don't do it! Join a fleet. I do better in fleets.

Every day in every way I improve my skills and get better.

Take a frigate,
scan down a mission running bear,
shoot his mtu and/or steal his mission item,
repeat till you find one that isn't a sissy,
try kill him,
warp out if it goes sideways on you (because they never have tackle),
repeat till you no longer lose your **** under pressureBlink
it works particularly well if you're in a frigate that takes a lot of micromanagement.

You learn.

You go 'oh that fit failed.. well lets try again but maybe if I do this...' practice, practice, practice. or you join a pvp school. There are plently that will teach you about fittings, solo pvp, group pvp, etc. Mostly its trial and error and reseach

OMG Comet Mining idea!!! Comet Mining!

Your fit was fine.
Your target selection was the problem.

I'm trying to skill up my pvp, what better way then going up against FW pilots?

I'm sure carebears are ez targets but I am trying to learn flying mechanics, when to orbit when to pull back etc etc

The only similarity between a frigate and a destroyer is the size guns they use, not sure what you mean.

Well the fit is solid, I can't do better, if you can make a suggestion how to make it better please do. I think I need better piloting skills not a better fit.

^ This. Once you've calmed the **** down you'll start noticing all the little things. That's why so many people recommend you go out and lose 30 frigates.

A professional astro-bastard was not available so they sent me.

You will find if you focus on the minutiae of anything in EVE we suck as stand alone capsuleers. While we still suck at the per capita level in groups, a fleet of any kind eliminates having it thrown in your face and you don't walk away demoralized.

Go take an Agony Unleashed class. Some returning vets even do that when they've been out of the game long enough to feel useless at PVP.

There's a million angry citizens looking down their tubes..at me.

If I keep up this rate of fail, I will blow up around 10 ships an hour or more. Good for the economy sure, but I feel like my piloting skills are not improving much... I wish I could pause and play back my fights. I guess I could use fraps.

10 or so down, I'm on my way. ;)

I think it will take a lot more then 30 ships though

Destroyer hulls are paper thin usually, while they have more dps. I can tank the dps, sorta, but in this case instead of killing his hull, like i should have done, I allowed him to fly outside my rocket range while he continued to shoot my ship.

Certain ships beat certain ships. I don't know what your working assets look like but usually strategy in EVE involves switching hulls more than switching fits. Or switching target hulls to one your hull was designed to beat. Or play EVE as it has come to be defined as. Gank em.

Maybe try re-arranging your viewport? Alcohol (my most recent loss was very lucid, I remember managing heat, range, watching the bars, losing, all while fairly drunk)? vOv Just saying, after a few hilarious fights I was feeling like I could manage all the information OKAY. Remember, even the pr0s out there miss stuff, and they love pointing it out if they've Fraps'ed their fights.

Anyway, good luck out there!

Do you have a better arrangement? Can I see it? Mine is probably fail terrible and spread out too much.

OP keep working at it.

My first few engagements I got intense shakes. Those calm down over time, although I still get them whenever I engage in a more expensive ship.

Just remember - your ship is a consumable, no less ephemeral than a potion in other games.

Here's mine. Sortof, this is from sisi (the test server) so it's a tad different than my normal tq one but not in any substantial way.

I play drunk a fair amount so I like to have the modules, drones, targets and selected item really close to each other to minimize the amount of distance to cover with the mouse, I always try to have modules in the same place in the ui on each ship I'm flying so my hand can remember where itt is and I can tell from my peripheral vision what's going on there (overheating being a great example).
the blackened bit is another client with my booster/scouting toon that I can just click on to bring up if I need to (but I can still keep an eye on) .

Also , this might be of interest.
