Greetings folks,

I intend to try out Faction Warfare and would appreciate your advice.

Considering...
The good part (I think)
- Active average 4d/week for about 2-3 hours/day (but not continuously)
- self sufficient for T1 and T2 frigs&fits for the next few decades.
- FF 2015 ticket booked
The bad part (I fear)
- limited uninterrupted online-time (full time job & married with children means completely random and unexpected AFK's without prior notice)
- no active voice chat (PC is in living room. I usually can not talk on voice chat without disturbing others at home, but I can listen)
- tend to undock expensive ships while drunk

Q's:

1) Is this a viable situation to try FW?
2) If so, how to start? Join the NPCcorp or try to find a Player corp?
3) IF Pcorp how to best go about it? Send a scout into losec and check out the locals? Join NPC and try to get noticed by established corp? Join my corporation to FW?
4) Anything other I should consider before I abandon carebearism :-)

The plan now was to jump into sth cloaky and check out Amarr and Caldari (for RP reasons) FW space and then either join the NPC corp of choice.

Tnx for your time & advice

i can't speak for others but this is the sort of stuff that makes me want to scream FIND ANOTHER GAME. If you join an NPC corp and don't speak up on mic expect to get booted from fleets frequently. you can work FW from the solo and small-gang angles, but it's probably difficult to find people willing to accommodate frequent AFKing if you can't even communicate that on mic.

Thanks for your advice mate.
I'll still try to find some (other?) form of gameply in eve that fits the bill.

FW could do what you're after, but as Plato pointed out, you'll have trouble if you're in the NPC corp. No one trusts a gen mil pilot who occasionally AFKs with no warning and is only lurking in coms. You could find one of the many active and kick ass FW corporations out there. You'll just need to accept that you'll get killed a lot, and without being able to call for help you'll die alone a lot too. I've flown with dudes who, for whatever reason, couldn't speak and it isn't so bad so long as they are able to stick with the FC and follow the targets but it does prevent you from being that pilot who can scout, call point, occupy a plex away from the fleet ect. Not being able to talk could make the waiting in between fights a little bit more dull for you too.

Voice communication is a big deal in any game. Yes, you could play without a mic and you probably could do really well, but you'll need to work a little bit harder to find a group who will accept and accommodate you. As far as I'm concerned if you're not a spy, willing to fight and die by my side and follow any targets the FC calls you're golden.

As for occasionally losing expensive ships, I doubt many FW corps would care as long as you're having fun. And not being a total dumb ass or complaining about losing your bling. After all, why undock in a ship you're not ready to die in it?

If you'd like, you could shoot me a mail with your TZ and stuff and I could see if I might be able to match you with a CEO.

There is a pilot in GalMil, Lexiana Del'Amore, doesn't speak at all. I have been here for 18 months haven't heard a peep. Is usually always there in fleet. It just might take people a bit longer to trust you then normally. Do whatever you have to and/or makes you happy, its just a video game.

This is an old thing I posted awhile ago... but most of the information is still relevant.

1. SET UP YOUR OVERVIEW!! Make it so that "friendlies" do not show up (helps to prevent friendly fire incidents and reduces irrelevant information) and especially make sure that militia status is above suspect status (quite a few militia members have low security status... if you attack them you will incur a large faction standings penalty... and will often be blown up at the hands of your allies).

2. Buy ships and mods in bulk (mostly frigates and destroyers) and fit them in about 2 or 3 different ways ways for flexibility (ex, shield-fit, armor-fit, DPS/gank-fit, nano-fit, etc). Have them sitting, pre-fit, in an easy to access station... preferably one in low-sec that many other militia members use.

3. You will lose a lot of ships in militia. Have a steady source of income to replace stuff (which can come from running complexes FW systems).

4. Do not give away friendly fleet locations and/or friendly ship types in Militia Chat. The enemy has many spaiz!!!

5. Learn the area well. This will help you when you are looking for stuff to kill or escape from hostiles.

6. When looking for a fleet, type "X" into militia chat and eventually you will get picked up.

6i. Alternatively, go out and roam a bit. If you stumble upon a friendly fleet, they might pick you up. If not, keep looking (and try killing some stuff while you're at it).

7. Once you join a fleet, join audio (be it the in-game EvE audio, Ventrilo, Teamspeak, Mumble, Jabber, etc) and LISTEN.

7i. LISTEN SOME MORE.

7ii. ARE YOU SURE YOU ARE LISTENING????

7iii. If you cannot figure out where the fleet is by listening, ask [politely] by typing in fleet.
NOTE: you do not need to be able to talk on audio chat... but it does help. Do know that by not being able to talk you will be automatically disqualified from playing the roles of scout, target caller, and Fleet Commander.

8. The FC (Fleet Commander) is GOD himself and his orders should be followed to the letter (ex. even if you're in a frigate, SHOOT THE GODDAMN "PRIMARY" that has been called). Try to keep idle talk to a minimum (unless nothing is happening) and don't say anything when an engagement is underway. If you have a question... use your best judgement and ask after it is over.

9. Get to know the "regulars" within your timezone and help them whenever you can. Good things will follow if you make friends with them.

10. Listen to everyone's advice... no matter how abrasive it is. Chances are, they know what they are doing and you don't.

I really wouldn't listen to this advice. Will people suspect you are a spy if you don't speak, maybe. As far as going AFK on a moments notice, RL comes first for many people and corps, you just don't fly critical support roles, if that is the case.
The key thing to enjoying FW and getting the most out of it is joining a corp. It doesn't really matter what faction, look for people you like to fly with. Join corp public channels and chat with members. Let them know your situation and what you are interested in doing. If talking on coms is a deal breaker, thank them for their time and chat up another corp.
Get out there and have fun!

Oh, and do yourself a favor and make sure they're basing out of a lowsec FW warzone system. The really good FW corps make a home in the warzone and are active all the time there.

I'd suggest Caldari or Gallente - our WZ is more active. Caldari are a bit on the back foot at the moment but are getting themselves sorted out, and there's lots of excellent Caldari corporations to fly with.

We Gallente have a saying: "CCP created the Gallente Militia to train the Fighters..."

Don't be like some pilots who join a fleet, and they have to come all the way from DoDoxie, to a fight cause the ships they own are all in HI-SEC, and by the time they show up, fights over. And you hear in coms, where's fleet, Don't be that guy, live in low sec.

If I understood correctly, you're not saying you can't ever say a word on teamspeak, just that you can't talk continuously, correct?

If that is the case, then just avoid scouting or fc-ing and you're golden.

Anyway, find a corp (there's a list somewhere in this subforum) and ask them directly. If they don't match your playstyle, talk to another one.

Exactly. Spot on.

Thank you everybody for the advice.
Mr ShahFluffers, thanks for the detailed write-up.

I will do some more research on www and then head to either Caldari or Amarr regions.
In mean time, I guess it would probably not be a bad idea to get at least positive standings back with those 2 factions :-) (yes, I hav sinned...)

Hope to see you all soon, and frequently Cool
