Reinventing yourself once in a while is a good thing imo, but then I'm slightly weird. Also, I am thoroughly offended by your NPC remark!

The simple reason why not F2P is quite simple. The F2P model is anti-consumer. The model tries to lure the players to buy stuff, often at the expense of the lore or gameplay. If a F2P model would be chosen for eve online, the game would change from top to bottom undermining everything we know now.

I think a good F2P model could be, after maybe 14 days you get skill advances and expensive equipment only by paying cash or alternately by in-game currency you have to grind .... oh wait, that's how EvE already works.

When I get blown up by someone I know I'm rubbish at PvP but I get a respectable "GF" instead of what I would get on a F2P model "PWND NUB LELELEL". Keep the riff raff out :D
