I don't hate miners. Hate is a strong emotion. I reserve my hatred for bigots, sexist, and racist people. Miners, no, I don't hate them.

You misinterpret "getting blown up", as "they hate me specifically". In my case, it's nothing personal. You're in an unarmed ship I can reasonably expect to explode. Blowing you (and your pod) up creates the sudden new demand for a mining ship, mining fittings, and implants.

Take a wild guess what I'm selling on an alt a couple systems over, at only 10% above Jita.

7.2 CAN I AVOID PVP COMPLETELY? No; there are no systems or locations in New Eden where PvP may be completely avoided. --Eve New Player Guide

VETO!

Since the Prospect is here, I actually DO enjoy mining now and then. OK, it's not like im geting rich in the proces, but except real PVP, there is nothing like plain ignoring 30+ NPCs in a "hidden"-Belt, see a Navy-Comet warping In, Zoom Off with MWD and see the Comet scramed and shred to pieces by the NPCs you did simply speedtank... AND having 10.000m³ of Lowsec-Ore in your Cargo Big smile

Aaaand that means that it's not mining you are enjoying.

Please reread my post and then your own.

I think the real reason for Miner hate is the strange though process of the common EVE PvPer. They think like: "Heck, why can't I find people to shoot? If those dastardly High Sec Miners stopped their tomfoolery and PvPed more, I would have something to shoot!"

I like to think that if we are playing a Sandbox MMO, why shouldn't we build sand castles?

You can build all the sandcastles you like, as long as you're prepared to defend them from people coming to kick them over. If you can't do that, then you're gonna lose your sandcastle.

You've got the common thought process of the 'common pvp'er' completely wrong, by the way. The real one is, "everything undocked is a target". Frankly, I don't care if you learn to PVP or not. If you make yourself so easy to kill, that's really only your own problem.

Speak for yourself. You should have stayed unsubbed.

You can have a personal problem with me, or you can grow the **** up. Your choice, Captain Salty. Either way, I am speaking for myself, along with the demonstrable majority of PVP'ers in my area. Don't believe me? Spend five minutes in Aridia and see how you hold up against the Russians there. Everything's a target. If it's not, you're doing it wrong.

I wouldn't be surprised, actually, if you were doing it completely wrong.

It is mostly by players who lack the ability to think for themselves, so they jump on the pixel hardman bandwagon in the hope that they will be seen as part of the 'gang'

THIS.... in capital letters.

It has nothing to do with how you play the game. It has nothing to do with "hate", and it SURE as hell has nothing to do with "CODE" and there ridiculous manifesto.

They don't even believe what they are spouting. They get paid to do it...... PAID WELL to do it. Look at their site.... where do you think all that money comes from....

The big null-bear alliances, the ship-makers, and the traders. Anyone who benefits from high mineral prices, high-ship prices, and chasing new miners, new manufactures, and new "competition" out of the game.

It's like the first episode of Justified.

I'm a miner myself but the hate generally directed towards us doesn't bother me at all. I mine to make my money while I train my combat-oriented skills.

In fact, this hate towards miners encourages me to fit my exhumer intelligently and to always be on alert in case of random gankers or bumpers who wish to ruin my day.

Do I actually enjoy mining? The answer is I don't mind it when I have my music playing in the background while I'm either chatting away with contacts of mine or random people in local, but then again when I mine I have Cosmic fleeted up with my other toon so managing 2 exhumers plus an Orca for hauling my ore kind of breaks the monotony.

I do agree though that mining with just one toon in one ship can be pretty boring, especially when your not doing something concurrently.

At least Cosmic has a delicious body wrapped up in black latex that I can stare at in full-body view while my 2 exhumers sit in space shooting lasers at space rocks. Cool

Everyone has a opinion on this. Myself, well, I do not really enjoy mining to much, but fitting a mining ship out with something other than what is needed for mining can be fun, just sit at a belt and see who shows up to shoot at you. The reaction you can get is just something that makes you feel good from your implants to your toes. It is always a thrill to see someone's ship explode and they have a bad reaction to it. Especially having that ship exploded by what looks like a helpless target.

I do however sometimes mine, but I just use the mats from it to build something to go shoot other people in.

Having a mining skill can also be used for something else.

Bait

My personal favorite, Place a nice target in a field and surround it with some cloaked bombers, there is always some poor sucker that will try to take that worm off the hook.

So, yes, mining has it's uses. So I do not hate miners.

The point being, use what you have available and make the most of it. Stop hating and start using whatever it is you dislike and make it work for you.

I do. The best thing about having a mining vessel already in belt is it makes an excellent scout to warp to with an alt.

The reason miner _haters hate miners is because the miners are not playing the game the way the miner_haters want the miners to play the game.

Pretty much as simple as that.

If you want to mine, you should mine and f%*k the bozos.

Kestral, i know exactly what you're talking about. when i started playing eve, i was a miner. i spent all my time training mining skills and mining. back then, i didn't know how else to make ISK. i don't mine any longer, and spend the vast majority of my time PVPing on this toon.

to be honest, i've never understood why there seems to be so much animosity towards that career path. maybe it's because at the core, eve is a PVP-centric game, and hard core PVPers see miners as people who don't want to participate in the game play they consider to be fun. of course, that's a childish way of looking at the game, but there are some they don't understand the fact that eve has so much more to offer other than PVP, and some people enjoy other avenues.

whatever the reason, i see miners as performing a task in eve that benefits everyone - especially PVPers. after all, where do people think all these ships come from? there are a lot of players that think they just appear on the market magically, and aren't aware that miners provide the raw material from which everything we use is created.

so, my advice is to play the game the way YOU want to play it.

I would like to point out that when you mine and sell minerals you are competing against other players trying to make ISK on the mineral market.

Therefore mining is technically PVP.
