Time to remove local as it is today?

Why is local the most important intel tool in EVE?
It shouldn't be that important and there is no way to protect yourself against that intel at all.

I think it will be a good idea to get a quiet local as for WH etc, there are no need for local intel as for today.

Gankers use intel heavily to find victims, miners use local to find gankers etc.

Without this free intel it will be much more game to booth find a victim and protect yourself against gankers etc.
If local should still be as today it would be good to be able to sort local after standing etc.
Right now everyone have a huge chunk of unsorted intel and tha'ts just waste of good game space on screen ;)

If you want to have something more like WH space then why don't you just go to WH space?

Also I don't really think it is a waste of screen space as I would just have another chat window open anyway but that's maybe just me.

Because I'd kinda like to know if I'm wasting my time trying to dscan all over a system trying to find a target becsuse there's actually nobody else in the system? Fook that. Evil

'Number of pilots currently docked and active' is still on the map.

+1 to OP at least for null/lowsec - maybe with automagical dscan improvements and sov controlled intel to some degree to prevent that dscan RSI that arthritic wormholers suffer from.

but what would I know, I'm just a salvager

Aircrafts do have a transponder sending out signals to flight control centers... that way they try to avoid collisions and stuff.
Now our spaceships seem to have a transponder, too.
In Empire Space CONCORD is watching every single step we do, that's why they are able to respond that fast.
Now somehow it makes sense they publish our presence to other capsulers to avoid "collisions".
At least in Empire Space.
I'm not happy with revealing my presence in low security space - but as it is Empire Space I somehow have to deal with it.
Null security space... hm.

I'd love to see an option to turn my transponder on/off.
It just doesn't make sense for a stealth bomber to shout out that he is there, at least in hostile space.
But disableing my transponder is indeed very suspect... suspect? Isn't there a yellow flashing option for being suspect?

Maybe that's an idea?
Hiding yourself from local by disableing your transponder is possible but turn yourself into being suspect (standard timers).
Whoever will find you and enter your grid would be able to shoot you without CONCORD/sentry interaction.

Include an option to broadcast your transponder signal only to "blues", your corporation, your fleet, sth like that.

1. Map data is 30 minutes out of date. Currently 23 in local in a dead in system, is showing 16 active on the map. Hmm...doesn't make sense Ugh. But to gather intel, it needs to be at least nearly accurate but the game was not designed that way, see below.

2. Jump gates and pipe lines. Sensor booster and high resolution. You win. One guy sits on one side of the gate cloaked, lets you know when he goes on the other, you get ready, and the guy traveling just wasted his time. He might not of been looking for a fight, might of been going to his stomping grounds. From above, mechanics force choke points so its nearly impossible to plan around faulty information and MWD+Cloak isn't always reliable, not to mention that a BS with smart bombs on the next gate = win for smaller ships. Bad mechanics is bad, players can adapt far easier to current mechanics than to without mechanics such as local to take advantage. Make larger jump gate radius to activate and jump out/in or redo the entire map so there are more jump gates ect...something so you can cat and mouse instead of warping to a gate, getting dragged into a bubble and then going boom.

3. This. Was. Thera? Really, like not even 3 days ago your prayers where answered for the entire post. Don't like bubbles or HICs, go back to low. Still don't like it, uninstall.

4. ???

5. Profit. Seems like the entire point of the post is lazy gankers looking to make it easier to gank, when they already have 90% of the advantage since 99% of the population is lazy and it only takes 1% effort to avoid it like staying aligned/watching local/tanking ship/checking useful intel (out dated map info isn't helpful)

Bull. Gankers use the fact that they know where belts are + dscan to find targets. While highsec systems may have 200 people in they, they may be docked, so dscan is the most important intel tool. OTOH, miners have to keep a constant watch out for gankers. d-scan could tell them there's catalysts on their way, which would often be too late, and would require non-stop clicking Scan.

This is incorrect. A lack of Local always favors an armed aggressor against a weaponless defender.

As Ssabat has mentioned, it gets tedious for the aggressor to find a target. However, if the defender is a miner, she will be in predictable locations which don't need to be probed out, only dscanned, with the aggressor choosing the timetable for the encounter, as well as having the obvious advantage of not having to be in any specific location.

I believe it's been said before many times that mining in WH isn't cracked up to be all that great.

People see Local as free intel, it's true, but the lack of Local is a free mechanism to hide yourself, which removes a significant element of risk for a free roaming aggressor.

And no that won't fix SOV one bit.

I feel that using RP is one of the worst angles to justify the removal of Local.

Cars today have always active collision detectors. If you want to make Dscan automatically ping every tick and provide alerts based on any changes in the "ships in proximity" list, then go ahead and remove Local.

Arguing RP is like arguing what kind of music is the best ever. There is no rationale or logic to it, just selective logic that is applied to justify a lot of irrational beliefs.

For practicality purposes I don't see how you can remove local without opening up a host of nightmarish situations... hell.... infinite cloaky camping is bad enough as is.

I have; however, always thought that linking your ability to see peeps in local should be linked to skills-- even if it's a relatively low level skill investment. You know, simulate your ability to (abstractly) "scan" a system and identify other clones.

I'd like to see such a system put in... so long as it simultaneously addresses cloaky campers and the ability to spot hostiles when they enter a system. Both of which could also be linked to skills or some sort of anchorable object....

Greedy as I am I will go for all three, as all three are applicable...Pirate

Thread locked.

The Rules:
17. Redundant and re-posted threads will be locked.

As a courtesy to other forum users, please search to see if there is a thread already open on the topic you wish to discuss. If so, please place your comments there instead. Multiple threads on the same subject clutter up the forums needlessly, causing good feedback and ideas to be lost. Please keep discussions regarding a topic to a single thread.

26. Re-opening locked topics is prohibited.

Recreating or re-opening a thread that has been closed by a moderator is prohibited. Threads that have been closed by a moderator have been closed for the benefit of the community. Re-opening a locked thread will result in its removal.

And yes, it was also posted in the wrong section of the forum. Moving it to the appropriate section would however still lead to a thread lock, as per the above two quoted rules.
