Ship Customization

I'm just wondering, has it been brought up to develop an area in the GUI that will allow players to cosmetically alter the appearance of their ships? Each corporation-faction could have their own individual colors or visual aesthetics. It doesn't have to be as broad as 100 different choices in 10 different areas, but certainly 20 different types of highlights, striping, base colors, etc. would be nice. To make corporations unique.

Also, sensible custom logos on the side of ships would be nice as well.

This could be an opportunity for additional skills and some creative capsuleers to shine.

That actually wasn't a troll, it was a demonstration what will happen without a total or mostly total code rewrite

No. You're the first one I've seen in ten years that knows about skins. Imagine this game going for that long and nobody bringing up how they wanted to paint their Domi like My Little Pony! It's outrageous I say! OUTRAGEOUS!!

We must accommodate the idiocracy.

Well.. not today so far it hasn't...

But then again.. people are pretty focused on crying over the new UI and other changes at the moment. Im sure F&I and GD will return to their normal 3 threads a day about this soon enough.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

An actual useful idea would be to have the option to render ships in wire frame with the text [ship type] and even that could be optional because of overview.

I would be a neat concept, but if left up to CCP, would probably require you to un-rig/repackage your ship in order to apply a different skin like they require now.

Not sure I know of any cap pilots that are willing to drop several capital rigs, put a skin on their ship, and re-rig. Either that or just plain buy an additional ship in the color scheme you desire, which also would need to be rigged...

Once the actual concept/feature of ship skinning improves, then we can talk about customizing those skins.

CCP only had to use the BP system because the SOF wasn't done yet. go see Sibby's link

You say that as if it is done now... and even if it is, they are still using the BP system for skinning ships for players (see the dread skins they just came out with in Rhea)... and the thread that was linked doesn't have much info really in it for them not requiring people to repackage rigged ships in order to apply a skin, at least not that I was able to find.

Which further begs if they are planning on getting to the point of ship customization without repackaging in order to apply a blueprint of the new skin to the ship, then why the heck would they release something as expensive to use as a dread blueprint skin?

As CCP have said, they want to gauge the interest in skinning ships before devoting too much time and $$ implementing a true customisation ability. Using skin 'bp's' was the easiest way to do that.
