I started to play EVE less than 2 months ago after reading an article about it.
The main question was : How can EVE still be live after more than 10 years? And one of the answer was : because devs pay attention to people playing their game and consider feedback is important.

I decided to try and started with Trial Account.
I immediately liked it and I didn't even wait for my trial to be over before subscribing.
Even my not so recent computer could run the game smoothly as long as I would not ask for too many advanced features.
I was quite happy with this game and started to think I would probably play it for a while..

Then this patch was released.

The icons, are O.K.. I think I could get used to them after a while. No big deal here.
But the interface ? Everything is laggy now. I tried to put transparence to 0, deactivate any fency feature, nothing changed. Windows, mouse cursor, everything is laggy now. Even the solar system map when probing is laggy. I don't even talk about hacking window...

I logged in about 2 hours ago, started to play the way I was before and logged out 1 hour later, pissed of by these laggy windows that ruined my gameplay.
I can't see an improvement here. The interface was O.K. the way it was. I don't really know what causes that window lag but I do know one thing, I can't play a game with laggy interface.

I have 2 more weeks until my subscription expires. Sadly, it will probably expire for good Sad.

I won't go into all the wonderful things about EvE and how the Devs do in fact listen to the playerbase for the most part, the fact is, I have played this game for many years on my main toon and I would say to you that "if you let it expire over the first bump in the road, you'll be doing yourself a disservice."

As someone mentioned correctly: we are the end-user and not the client of CCP. But most of the people behaving here like the super-important client. Because they pay 10 bucks per month? Ridiculous. To make clear: you pay a subscription to have the right priveledge to play this game. Nothing more. Everything else is owned by CCP and CCP's decision. And that's it.

It's so easy to give a constructive and polite feedback if you just calm down and talk in the right manner. But this doesn't happen here. Most people seem to have no life experience how to deal with issues and how to communicate with success. Horrible.

FYP. Again, your only right is to cancel your subscription. Everything else you do is at the pleasure of CCP.

There's one part of this update which I really hate with a passion. In fact, it's so awful that I don't know why others haven't noticed it, but apparently I'm alone in this (so far)- the gold on the Amarr ships looks tacky, and the white/grey parts look dirty. I could not be more dismayed at this if they'd bedazzled the Amarr symbol with rhinestones.

In short, the Amarr ships looks like a Dubai Billionaire had a gold version made.

Here's what I mean:

I'm still hoping maybe I have a setting wrong somewhere to be seeing it like this. The gold is just way too shiny- it needs to be subtle.

and btw, I don't hate all gold. But there's decent, tasteful, subtle use of gold.. and this is not it.

So what your saying is... http://i.imgur.com/dfEf2xG.jpg ?

With the exception of the Tristan I'm not loving the Gallente ships. Far too shiny and a weird shade of green. Incursus is slightly improved by the removal of that stupid pointy thing.

The Gallente ships look better if you undock in them, to be honest. Or at least mine did. I haven't yet undocked in my Ishtar, so I'm sure if it looks any less like a Christmas bauble or not.

On the devs listening though.. I really am hoping they hear us, although it would be nice to see a blue post, if only to show that they didn't just make this post to make us vent in a specific place.
Although seeing as how negative this thread is, I'm not surprised they are hiding.

In the end, we need to give them a chance to fix this though, fuming at them wont really increase the chances of them joining the conversation.

Think of it this way, would YOU join a conversation where you would probably get yelled at immediately upon showing your face?
To be honest, I wouldn't :)

Hmm... if I count the over 1000 posts in both feedback threads to this topic on SiSi I would say the developers have a very selective hearing... ;)

UI really needs to allow player colour customization, and to disable and adjust the focused-window brightness change.

I got the default Caldari theme, and found the NEOCOM icons quite annoying to look at; not enough contrast. I think tried the Amarr theme, and at least the NEOCOM icons are distinct now.

Charon and Rhea are almost black, and hard to tell apart aside from the two stripes on the Rhea.

Overall ships in space seem even darker now, which was already a problem pre-Rhea.

However the station environment is much improved.

EDIT: Oh, and the starmap is amazing!

Who the **** came up with the idea to stop chat tabs from blinking if the cursor touches them, however briefly? Do you realize how easy it is to accidentally mouse over a chat tab and completely miss that someone had said something?

It's also ******** that every chat tab stops blinking when you only click one of them. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.

Can you make the glow bigger or brighter or something for the "Systems I've Visited" feature? I'm glad it's fixed, but it feels very underwhelming compared to the old map. Or maybe it's just because I can't see the systems I haven't visited as easily, they blend into the background. It's hard to get a feel for which parts of space I've been in and which I haven't.

Hi, don't know if CCP is going to actually gonna read this post, but the manual flight control is very nice and a lot smoother than I thought it was going to be. If I can make one suggestion though; having an option to lock the camera to the ship's rear (third person view) would make it easier to pilot with these controls in combat because at the moment the camera is not fixed so you have to keep one hand on the mouse controls to keep the camera centred when manually turning. This makes it hard to use in combat because you normally require one hand for module activation/deactivation and one hand for selecting targets and movement, so its hard to add camera manipulations into the mix as well. Just a tickbox would do or a keyboard shortcut perhaps. As far as the graphics go I think they are pretty awesome, I especially like what's been done with boundless creation's ships, they look really nice now. The angel cartel ships might need a little bit of work, they look a little dusty coloured at the moment and they have lost the shine to their hull they used to have, they could do with being darkened some more and that distinctive 'glisten' added back to the armor on the hull. I like what you have done with the User Interface, no quibbles there it looks very nice, the ability to match to current ship theme and set transparancy are pleasant.

The above is just my two cents anyway, good work CCP, keep the updates rolling P

I'm starting to get a little more used to the neocom icons but it would still be nice to be able to colour code them to enable easier identification.

The preset colour schemes however, aren't growing on me. If it's at all possible, could we please have the option to define our own colour schemes again?

I note there hasn't been a Dev response in this thread for a while. Could one of you guys let us know if you're considering any of the requests made in the thread please?

Thanks.

Please stop forcing big overhauls on us like this.

New icons are pretty bad, less intuitive and harder to find at a glance

Give us back colour sliders!
The choices you've given us don't even cover the whole spectrum let alone have a decent amount of choice. I actually don't like any of them.

On the plus side the new star map (which is a beta option, why didn't you do this for the UI?) is beautiful. Put whoever designed it onto the UI so they can fix it.

Rollback the UI

This is something I don't understand.. the UI a BIGGER change then the map changes,
Wouldn't it have worked out to put the UI in as a beta?

Can we get custom color options back?

not bright blue enough for my tastes the plasma template isn't even close.

The update is a breath of fresh air. Well done with the UI improvements, personally, I have not had any issues with lag.

The good:

The Amarr ships (and others I have inspected) are so much brighter I can see the details finally. Was such a pain trying to get a nice screenshot with enough sunlight to show off ships.

The glows of tabs are subtle and far less intrusive compared to the old flashing - chat channels always blinked to distraction.

The map is nice - would be good to have a map that worked so if you zoom out enough from your ship it seamlessly moves to the system map, more goes to star map.

The bad:

Allies still not showing Blue in local unless there is a session change from login, or you open and close the Overview settings after randomly changing something, then changing back.

Keyboard shortcuts are borked and cannot be edited now.

Dscan does not work in the new map?

My GPU fan now spins up finally (dunno of that is a bad thing, or this game is finally pushing the pretties)

Overall good work CCP!

- I like the new UI. I kept tripping over the old one even after playing years with it. Inventory and assets always got me confused. For one, I am ok with NOT having color icons.

- Gallente ships in particular are too friggin bright!! Please, oh, please turn the shiny-ness down a few notches!

- The new map window controls go against every other window in EVE. You are big in standarizing stuff like the Afterburner names (get me back my Catalyzed Cold-Gas Arcjet Thrusters!) but then you place the 'X' to close the window in the middle of the screen! I can't even count the number of times I move the mouse to the top right corner to close it only to find that the 'X' is not there. If every window in EVE has a certain control layout, please make this one match it as well... new user experience and all that.

- Having said that the new map is going in the right direction. I would love to have the filters visible all the time and not only on mouse over the icons.

- Speaking of the new map, I find the background a bit distracting when being fully zoomed in a system. Perhaps the background could be dimmed more so the actual system elements are not lost among the clutter.

- The Blackbird/Rook/Falcon are butt-ugly. It looks like a spiky box, you have to look really hard to tell which end is the front and which is the rear....and then you realize you still got it wrong. I thought the old model was bad, but please bring it back!. I know you won't so please try to do better next time...and add the Blackbird and his cousins to the list of ships to redesign (again). This one was a miss.

- Love the eagle/moa/onyx! Good job there!!

- Same for the Bowhead!

You have dropped the ball CCP, the new UI is unplayable. I have only logged on once since rhea, and I won't bother logging in again until you restore the old icons and sliders. (As an opt-in choice, at the very least)

You have repeatedly screwed me as a player personally, I can not enjoy customizing my character, you broke that. You butchered the Armageddon, T3 cruisers might as well not exist for Amarr and Minmatar because you refuse to fix them. You consistently fail to iterate on promised features like Sovereignty and Modular POS's. Missile's are still functionally useless for PvP except in rare and specific use-cases.

You choose to update visual assets over broken Mechanics. You "fixed" a non broken UI, and thus rendered it useless for me.

Not to mention the utter waste of man-hours the you call Dust514 being console exclusive, and thus screwing over the people who play on the platform that built your company. Only after it failing miserably (compared to expectations) did you consider a PC release, which apparently is the same game but isn't at the same time, and we know nothing about it beyond that.

And unless Valkyrie is built into the EVE client and made playable by EVE characters, I don't care to have anything to do with it either.

I believe you no longer have any respect or loyalty to the the players who made CCP and EVE Online what it is today.

Add to that the number of employees that have fled CCP, seemingly like rats fleeing a sinking ship. I believe you no longer have a coherent vision for EVE, and I believe your own devs can see it too.

So yeah can I get my freaking UI back at least?

Modal windows? CCP are you serious right now? How could you possibly think this was a good idea?

How could you be so bad at UI design for a video game that you think taking control away from players is important for a window that says that you don't have room for something in cargo?

It may have been said already, but the new map does not present statistics very well. It looks very nice otherwise, but I won't be using it much until it gets better.
