T3 Exploration

I have recently been enjoying exploring in my Cheetah. (RIP)

It's recent demise has made me think of using something a bit more substantial for my jaunts around wormholes.

Although the SOE ships look sexy, im disappointed that you cant fit the 2 hacking rigs on them at the same time, so I have been thinking of a t3.

Is there a "best" T3 for exploring? I have never flown one at all before for anything, Also, if i take a mobile depot can i swap subsystems on it and then use it in combat sites too?

As a mainly Minmitar pilot, a Loki is probably what I will want to use if all things are equal so some suggested exploring and combat. sleeper fits would be welcome

For exploration you can't go wrong with the SOE ships.

I'm not 100% sure what you mean with the rigs, but the Stratios gets a bonus to exploration ('10+ bonus to Relic and Data Analyzer virus strength'), so if your skills are ok you will be able to hack anything with pretty good chances of success.

They can also fit a probe launcher and cloak without gimping tank and dps. So if you venture into nulsec or lowsec you can defend yourself or even take the odd target of opportunity. Similarly you can fit for PVE and do some combat sites.

My experience with cloaky scanny/exploration T3 ships is that they will scan well and hack well but they are anemic with regards to dps and tank (cloaky brick proteus being the exception but that is strictly a pvp boat in my opinion).

Only think a T3 does better is that it can be nullified for nulsec travel.

So in summary:

Stratios would be my first choice
Proteus would be second (but you will have to play around with subs to get enough mids to make it worth it.
Other T3s would be well behind. Loki is not really that good, particularly if you want to be able to put out any serious dps or tank anything worthwhile.

Yes you can refit subsystems at a depot if you want to.

Will this do?

Personally, I don't like fitting rigs to a T3 that box it in too much. I would go with rigs that let you refit for combat instead

with rigs i mean stratios and astero have 350 calibration

it means i cant fit both an emission scope sharpener and a memetic algorithm bank that give +10 also to data and relic hacking as they arfe 200 callibration each

Ah I see. Well with the bonus that the SOE hull gets, you will still get the same power with one rig, and you can use the others for tank/dps. The hull would then be more balanced for use in combat sites.

The loki fit above is actually pretty cool for PVP alongside some data sites, but would melt in most combat sites.

I would go with these rigs and screw the hacking rigs.

Then you can switch to this fit above with minimal changes and crack on with combat sites.

You will find your DPS makes the sites a little slow to do over say an Ishtar or a BS but if this is what you want to do.....

Also, there is a slot 10 implant which will improve your hacking skill a bit to "lessen" the blow of not fitting rigs

EDIT:- pimp it as much as you like but that Gist C-Type is really a game changer

EDIT 2:- it can use drones too!!!!! pumps your DPS up again. Damn I'm good at EFT Warrioring

Loki has a small cargo hold. You will need (EDIT: got mobile depot size mixed up with mobile tractor unit, actual space required for cloak and depot is 150m3, not 200m3) 150m3 just for the cloak and mobile depot leaving little room for loot, other sub systems and ammo. And as an AC Loki is is basically a bullet house, you will need lots of ammo. Additionally, the Loki has poor damage projection. You want to go around running hacking sites? Fit it for that. It's sub par for combat sites.

Oh my lorde!

That first fit I posted is what you want to scan and hack in. It's combat ready to fight off most things you will find in a hacking site. Just swap the rigs for what I put on my combat site runner.

I can see what you're doing with the Interdiction Nullifier and I-Stabs. If you're faggin' around in Null/W-Space you can just drop a Gyro or the DCU II and fit a Nullifier to get you through or out of bubbles. The I-Stabs aren't necessary as you're fully covert.

Warp Core Stabs I feel should only be fit to "Travel Fitted" ships.

Aerie speaks the truth here. The cargo hold is the bane of the Loki. I would, however, expect this to get buffed when T3's do finally get a proper balance pass. I would even go so far as to say that the Emergent Locus Analyser subsystem may even give a large cargo hold as it is fitting with that subsystems role

I still think the Stratios is what you are looking for Lol

Big cargo hold
uses drones and crystals for dps so no need to carry lots of ammo
hacking bonus so rigs can be used for tank/dps/scanning
can fit probe launcher and cloak
Can be shield or armour tanked
Can be fit for PVP or PVE and can run combat anoms up to 5/10 (most of them anyway)

Only downside is the lack of bubble resistance, but that can be overcome by using the map and dotlan to avoid bubble camps

info like this is what i also wanted- maybe loki is not ideal for what i want then. what is a better t3 for this dual role? or maybe itsnot possible

edit- Tuscor is presenting a good argument for the stratios... hmm

Stratios is a good choice.

Just for information on cargo holds (solo combat sig fit):
Loki 270 or 280m3
Legion 300m3
Tengu 440m3
Proteus 300m3

Plus the proteus and legion can be fit for infinite ammo with drones and T1 crystals.

Was a double post, but I'll add some other information.

Covert cloak 100m3
Mobile depot 50m3
Subsystem 40m3
Overseers effects 10m3

Since they reduced the size of much of the loot from hacking sites it is better. But combat sites/commanders can load you up with surprisingly large amounts of stuff. Which really hurts the Loki, not even touching on its combat site running ability.

Legion, tengu and proteus all have a sub that gives them a bonus to local rep. Tengu can be a beast and has, broadly, the best ability to run sites.

SOE ships are really an overpriced one-trick-pony. I prefer a Loki for Null/WH exploration. The Interdiction Nullifier is worth the price of admission. I also enjoy the Tengu in that capacity. If the SOE ships come down in price maybe.

For Profession site you need hardly any cargohold.

stratios is poor for null combat sites. (not enough tank)
it is great for hacking
for fighting off lone pvp hunters neuts are better than lasers in the highs. i killed a nightmare with mine even with his blackbird friend briefly trying to stop me. pve tengu also died to the neut fit stratios.
null combat sites normally use a ishtar/ tengu lthough that varies with local rats.

Stratios makes for a pretty nasty gank boat, bring a mobile depo and you can switch between "tourist" and "**** this country!" Modes as and when needed.
Admittedly you can do that with any of the t 3's as well but the stratios has a cloak, drones, armour AND lazorz....it's ducking cool.

correct me if im wrong, but I still feel the Ishtar + covops frig are the best for lowsec/nullsec exploration. park the Ishtar nearby, run relic/data sites with covops. grab Ishtar to do just about any combat site.

after being gone for a year, I really wanted to outfit a Stratios, but im failing to see the point. covops frig is better for running non-combat sites, and u cant do anything higher than a 4/10 in the Stratios.

exploring in a T3 just seems silly to me, as both of the above examples would be better.

am I missing something?

If solo, Stratios is better. Multi accounts or friends, CovOps + HAC is better

I don't agree that the stratios is poor for nulsec sites. With careful management and the use of the right sentries for the situation, it can take on a lot, and puts out a hell of a lot more dps than a tengu.

Ishtar is good, but my understaning is that the OP wants a ship that does it all in one.
