I'm having a strange graphics issue with Ubuntu 14.04 help needed

Currently running the latest wine/drivers/updated ubuntu LTS release

Also fresh wine install, fresh video driver install.

Screen Cap

Any suggestions for a fix to actually being able to see damage to ships (my own as well as targeted ships) would be welcome.

There also appears to be some screen tearing around text, could be texture issues but they appear likely related to the problem with the HP bubbles around the cap and targeted ship readouts.

There is also an issue running the Launcher (exefile.exe) where this happens: Screen Cap

It can be "resolved" by adjusting the display mode from "full screen" to "windowed mode" and vice versa, resulting in this: Screen Cap

Unfortunately this doesn't resolve the real issue which seems to be missing elements from the client interface resulting in tearing and image bleed.

Is it a tarp?

Not sure what card you have. But I often try older drivers and that can fix things.

Also it may well pay to not just use the apt stuff. I often use the NVIDIA install scripts instead.

FWIW i am running slackware with NVIDIA and it runs flawlessly. I am running wine-1.6.1, but a version i compiled myself.

Currently using the latest Nouveau driver for a Nvidia 8550GT, tried using proprietary drivers but they uninstall Wine which for me is counter productive. Which Nvidia install scripts are you referring to?

Wine ver 1.7.1 Ubuntu Beta build from WineHQ

PS. I like Slackware, but have been attempting to find a Linux distro with as easy an install that is compatible with Eve doesn't matter what, exploring arch as an alternative atm, suggestions are welcome.

I don't think Nouveau is in a working shape. At least for something complex like graphically demanding games.

Also I can't see how wine could break drivers.

Worst case just build it from source.

The driver packages remove wine, not sure why either.

**Ok, so upon further examination the "proprietary, tested" version and "proprietary" version of 331.38 of the drivers break wine**
I'm going to try the new driver options available to me. Updates to this incoming.

The package nvidia-libopencl1-304 is the offending package, installing wine v 1.7.1 with the nvidia 304 driver already installed seems to have resolved the issue.

Have you considered using the stock wine that comes with Ubuntu 14.04, it works fine, and works fine with the proprietary drivers.

The issue was with the open source Nouveau driver. Installing the Nvidia drivers seems to resolve the issue quite well, there is however a need to reinstall wine after the driver at which point it does remove one library that is incompatible with wine, this doesn't break wine and the client works.

I have never came across Nvida drivers uninstalling wine. I have upgraded my drivers often without having to touch my wine install.

Personally i find slackware one of the easiest distros to install. But then i have Ubuntu with passion. If i wanted windows i would install windows.

I have considered it but given that Eve runs better by far under the latest wine build, in addition to which when tested using the stock wine build from the ubuntu sources it does the exact same thing with my particular driver. In any case the workaround I found seems to work well.
