The last trailer was amazing with real people talking and a great cross section view of the game. Every non eve person I showed the trailer video was amazed and loved it..

Now im a little embarrassed to tell people I play EVE and what it is!
Now if they try it out and see how childish it looks they wont hang around and they will laugh all the more about me being a one game 8 year gamer paying monthly.

In the 80th there did no GUI like this exist. The screen of a C64 was limited to 16 colors and would look like a cheap icon on your desktop.

You are not paying for the GUI. You pay for playing EVE and enjoying spaceships and not icons and windows. So play it. Nothing really changed here.

Less is more in design is far beyond stupidity.

But the trailer is a commercial not showing the EVE's real gameplay. People will leave disappointed if they expect this but not because of a nice and plain GUI.

Embarrassed because Icons destroyed the concept? I guess you need really a break and find a way back to the important things in life.

The only thing what looks childish here is your strange embarrasing post full of tears. Horrible.

Many people can't play this game due the eye pain caused by the new GUI.

all joking aside, I suffer from migraines quite a lot and over the years have managed to cut down on these by watching what i eat and also by cutting down on doing things which ive found bring them on. Since the changes to the UI in Rhea, ive already noticed that im starting with the initial symptoms of what if unchecked, will develop into a migraine attack..

Now i do agree that some comments about the UI bringing on headaches and eye strain etc could be a bit OTT, but I do also know from personal experience that some of these complaints will be genuine. I also think that this is something that CCP need to look at closely before the proverbial sh*t hits the fan so to speak.

New Neocom Icons:
I like them. Most of the old icons just were a blurry mess of coloured pixels and were hard to distinguish. This is of course just my personal taste and i can understand if others may not like them, because they think the icons look to "sterile". Adding the ability to give certain icons a specific colour tone (RGB sliders?) might help.

Neocom Bar:
The Neocom background needs to be much darker. A bright background scenery makes it very hard to identifiy the Neocom icons, because of lack of contrast. I can check/uncheck blur and set transparency level of windows, but the Neocom background is unaffected by that.

"Autofocus":
Not sure how that new feature is called, but when i click inside/outside of a window or rotate the camera, it changes the transparency level. Why did you implement the transparency slider, so i can set the transparency level I WANT,if the "autofocus" thingy changes it anyway? Please give us a checkbox the set this off.

UI Themes:
Personally, i have nothing to complain about the themes. I use a dark one (forgot the name) and i'm happy with it. But why did you take away the option to adjust the colours, for everyone that wants an individual theme? I don't see where having options can be a disadvantage for any side?

Ship Rendering:
Amarrian ships look really nice. The matte military tone of Caldari is fine. Can't say much about Minmatar. But what happened to Gallente??? Did someone drop all of them into a big bucket full of chrome paint? Yes, i'm looking at you CCP_XZibit!
You guys removed all texture layers but one and set chromeeffect=100% ?

TL:DR
- give neocom icons optional rgb sliders
- make neocom background darker
- implement "autofocus" check/unchek box
- bring back colour sliders for themes
- fire CCP_XZibit

Why does everything have to be so ridiculously dark or bright? Where is the advantage in not letting players customize the colors?

Well, oddly enough, I don't click where I expect something to be - I click where I can see it.

Seriously guys, it is not the UI giving you eye strain and headaches- it is the flickering edges the new rendering system implemented.

When it flickers your eyes are subconsciously attracted to the edges, you may not even notice it but the effects are very apparent on my eyes.

This auto-eye movement is more common in men but some women may have the hunting instinct as well.

the edges of what?

the reason im starting with migraine is not down to the rendering, its down to the colour scheme that im now been forced to use because of the removal of the rgb sliders, and due to the fact that the new station/neocom icons are absolutely appalling as there is no way to differentiate between them like you could with the colour on the old icons.

27 Pages of complaints and CCP has not even acknowledged it.

At least CCP Darwin seems to agree with what the playerbase have been telling CCP for the past eight weeks: The nebulas are too bright.

Come on, CCP. I like the UI changes and the new ships, but it is clear that some of the changes are physically detrimental to some of your playerbase. What are you going to do about it? Head in the sand time again? With the arrival of CCP Seagull I had hoped that I would never see that kind of behaviour from you again.

Completely forgot to mention in my prior post... but whatever you did to the selected items window, PLEASE fix it back!

There are no buttons on the Selected Items window anymore, or at least, none that I can see! You have to select something on the overview, then the relevant icons are highlighted (nice and crisp white), but until you select something, you can't actually see any of the icons!

I could write a wall of text about how much this greatly interferes with gameplay and usability, if you want me to...

This is how the Selected Items window looks to me right now - this is using Carbon theme, no transparency, blur off:

http://i.gyazo.com/e06171ad9d96d239a0c481948dc094dd.png

Needless to say, that's suboptimal ...

Edit: Example - I want to change my ship's default orbit. I have to select something to orbit FIRST, then I can see the orbit button to right-click on it and change default orbit. Or I can blindly and randomly hover my mouse across the selected items window until I find the correct button via tooltip...

This has been the case since long before Rhea. I know because I change my default warp distance on a regular basis (generally to something like 40, 60, or 90km, so that if someone else warps in at any of the normal ranges they won't land right on top of me) and always have to select something warpable on the overview before I can do so.

The UI: The icons are okay, but as Chribba suggested, they could use some color.
The color schemes... I want my sliders back. I want to choose what colors are used. It's not like this is causing server load.

As for PBR, it is beautiful. Really shows just how much had been done with textures to fake realism before this was introduced. A lot of textures need to be updated, but some of the ships look amazing now (Ark, Providence, .. a lot of Amarrian ships actually have some gold on them now). The Myrmidon and Megathron finally have a sharpness to their specular reflection that gives them a metallic look, as opposed to the low quality plastic look they previously had. Several of the ships need their specular maps broken up a lot more with hull plate separations or other such detail, either that or add more detail through the normal maps (or both). The Malediction, and some others, are overly grey now, but again that's a map issue that should be easily fixed.

Overall Great work on the PBR. Can't wait to see how things go forward from here with fixing the textures.

Good work on the UI, but beyond the simplification of the icons, I'd really like some color back. Especially with choosing my UI color theme.

Overall, Rhea is very good +1 Big smile

Add a "retro" style to give ppl a similar UI experience, add Chribba's enhanced neocom, and make the Gallente ships all dull and drab (they are Gallente of course Blink

The new map is going to be amazing when fully done. Nice!
The blackbird and variants are superbly Caldari. Positively high tech.
The incursus and variants are now the best looking Gall ships. I will almost hate to destroy them. AlmostTwisted

Get the UI tweaked, and most of the complaints will vanish.

Now off to figure out those sleepers...

Seriously Chribba, you rule!
This fixes most of my problems with the new UI in a very simple way, that still preserves the "simpler" direction CCP wants to move to.

Things look great! a couple of random points for improvement:

1. New map should support the radial menu. It works on almost everything else - why not here?

2. On the small-scale map, I want to be able to right-click a gate (or use the radial menu on a gate) and jump through it. Currently I can jump only by right-clicking the system to which I want to jump. I don't want to leave solar system view if I don't have to.

3. PBR is great - prophecy is a bit over-golden :-)

That's 10 minutes of photoshop, i'm sure CCP's art department can do better.
Or just add a tickbox or something. :)

The monochrome is giving me a lot of trouble though, in ways that have been explained many times before, and that would fix everything in a way that looks very simple to implement.
