This game is very personal. I think many other games leave you ill prepared for Eve. You can do pretty much anything you want in game but that requires you to figure out what you want to do. At first it's kind of scary but after a little while you realize how cool it is. I doubt you'll have many people leaving you any specific advice since you gave us not clue one about what interests you.

However welcome back and know that once you figure out what you'd like to try out this game is full of micro-communities to help you get rolling on what ever you decided to do.

Thankyou for the response.

I just want to PVP to be honest, I understand there is a huge economy and missions to do etc, but he PVP aspect is the one that appeals to me the most.

So, should i get right into the PVP bit, or train my skills for a while before?

I work shifts, and between work, girlfriend and gym I have 4-5 hours each night i can plough into Eve! The trailer I saw really appealed to me.

Get right into it. I started day one. Took me a couple weeks till I got a "legit" lowsec kill with some friends I made. But you can do it. It's hard, and it's brutal as a newbie since you don't have the skills, and most importantly, the experience. The REAL problem when starting out, is not knowing what you, and other ships are capable of, and choosing bad targets. Also, you'll fall for traps, and die.

But, it's a ton of fun. And, at least in lowsec, people are very encouraging as long as you have a good attitude. I survived ISK wise for a while because people would just toss isk my way after I asked them for advice.

Don't get discouraged, just keep at it, and do NOT wait until you've reached some arbitrary benchmark. Start now.

Here is a decent skill plan to get you started, it's fairly broad, gives you basic access to most types of combat play, giving you a chance to try different styles and roles.

This blog also talk about ships and their capabilities, as well as key concepts such as D-Scan, and surviving in lowsec. It's a a little out of date on some things since the author quit. Even then, you can see HOW to approach different situations, and learn to think about them critically.

Good luck! Don't give up and don't get discouraged. Feel free to shoot me a mail in in game if you need help and I'll do what I can.

also there are a few twitch streamers that I've seen that solo PvP and explain what they are doing for noobs. Some of them will even take noobs on roams with them. I saw one where a guy took a toon out with him that was less than 24 hours old and they killed a few faction fit ships and at the end of the roam split the loot and the 24 hour old toon got close to 100 million isk for his time on the roam.

I don't PvP but I can tell you that you can definitely earn good isk with combat skills so training for PvP and isk making are not at odds with each other.

Also there is all kinds of PvP out there: Faction warfare, Sov warfare, griefing, mercenary work, solo roams, etc... etc... Most important thing is find some people doing the kind of PvP that you are interested in and fly with them. This game is all about making new friends. I'm sure there are the self taught loaner solo PvPers out there but most people play MMOs for the friends they gain I think and Eve has lots of that.

what kind of pvp ?

i am assuming you mean violent ship v ship pvp and not commercial or political pvp.

there is solo pvp
small gang pvp
large fleet pvp
sovereignty bashing
interdiction
pirating
high sec wars
Faction Warfare
Low Sec
Null Sec
Wormhole
Concentual pvp like RvB
or some combination there of.

also what do you want to do in pvp ?

attack with guns at range
fast moving tackle
close range brawl
electronic warfare - ECM ? Dampners ?
logistical support ? (medic)
Interdictor (buble maker)
capital
black ops
bomber
scout
etc... etc...
or some combination there of.

also how do you expect to pay for your losses / clones / new skills ?

History is the study of change.
