True Solo - Dead or just really really hard now?

I used to love being true solo (i.e. without scout/link/ecm alts) but all I see nowadays is people bragging about solo kills and stuff when they have a veritable fleet of alts running with them.

This is even more exaggerated in hisec where neutral RR/link/scout are so the norm it's like there are only about 5k actual players :(

If I wanted to have a scout I would make friends with people who were good at it!

Ah well. slight rant over with.

So is true solo dead or is it just really really hard now?

And for those who start the 'it's an MMO' bullshite I often fly with others and I am active in many channels in game. Just because I like flying 'solo' doesn't mean I don't make friends or interact with others in game.

I would not say solo is dead ... but the fair fight is hard to find. You can still go solo, but you need to choose fights you know you will win, if you want to win ;) ... flying hard counters or unexpected fits.

I'm my own NPC alt.

Cool. I'm not too worried about finding a 'fair fight' as this is eve. I am just finding less and less people that are willing to go out without the army or alts. Pretty sad really :(

Why is that sad, people who need an army of alts and aren't just using them to supplement their existing skills are easy pickings.

Not sure I get what you are saying.

Are you saying that someone with links/ecm/neut rr/scout etc are easy picking? Not sure what planet you are from but you must have some mad leet skillz to go true solo against them.

With said army even a very basic toon with a basic fit can be a monster to deal with.

I think I might have to spend some more time wandering out in null. Mostly I just find dead systems with nobody around :(

There is solo pvp to be found in FW space, but there are also lots of farmers, boosted plexers, and small gangs. Killing farmers pads the KB, killing boosted pilots takes planning and luck, and fighting someone that is flying with other people can easily turn into the infamous 'blob'. I would say worry less about the mythical 'True Solo' and think more about pushing the limits of what you can do with a ship.

I only refer to 'true solo' for me. The aim is to push and much as possible to see what is capable with my ships. I am well aware that I will be 1 v many most of the time.

I will be the one that is 'true solo' everyone else can fly how they want. If I can kill them then all the better. If not...meh it's just pixels Twisted

Solo PvP is not dead.

Personally - I mostly fly solo but still run the occasional solo fleet and have been known to run with solo links.

Solo for me has become a 'try to kill the bait before the blob kills me' game.

there is plenty of frig 1v1, almost all the solo cruisers i see around are just anti-frig setups. it just makes you look like an idiot to fly around expecting true solo in a cruiser only to get pointed and slowly taken down by a T1 frig. OOPS

i do see T1/T2 BC+ going solo sometimes but those are ships that can manage 1200 DPS tanks with just some exile, though personally if links were available why would i not use it to scout ahead and provide a bunch of extra EHP when it counts? i'm alright losing a good fight but i would be gutted if i lost a 100m+ ship being completely helpless because 2 proud 4 links

It's not about being too proud to use links.

I have 1 account. I don't want to have multiple accounts so I can chest beat when I kill some dude that was no challenge for me with my alt army.

this is an MMO and if you want the benefit of using multiple accounts then go make friends.

It's not dead, but it is hard. I have been multi-box soloing for several years. By this I mean flying around space with multiple toons looking for fights. I don't have a link booster (yet). I guess I'm not true solo because I will use an alt or call corp mates for backup if needed (ie I am getting kited). The group I fly with tend to enjoy soloing together (ie solo, but in same fleet and comms spread out within 5-10 jumps of home). I try and take as many 1vN's as I can as I like getting the solo kills. My main issue is that I tend to feel like I am either slaughtering noobs that don't know what they are doing or getting slaughtered(or running away) by boosted/HG implanted worms.

It's not dead but i personally gave up on it. Cause wandering around for 2 hours to find that one fight if you where not caught in some camp is wee bit too boring to do anymore.

It's no longer worth doing but some may disagree and go headlong into some good old fashion masochism.

3 of the 4 fights I had yesterday were true 1v1 so it's still available though can be hard to find.

Pilots are under no obligation to 1v1 you, and many (myself included) will try to tip the odds if possible. DSCAN/experience will tell you if a) a gang is headed your way b) the pilot has known boosts.

I'm just happy when content comes my way regardless of whether that comes in the form of a 2v1 or a fight against a boosted character. Sometimes I even win (though usually not)!
