vOv i don't know. but i don't believe it's a case of person x gets to make changes y without meetings, discussion and input (e: and most importantly, approval) with and from lots of other people involved in the design process

And we care why?

Honestly I will never understand why people follow ccp devs around like rockstars or sports team members. People leave and join companies all the time. If the company is run well its not a huge loss, as ideas and such are kept within a team. Why we track every movement I have no idea.

We care because he was a key figure in nullsec rebalancing starting with the jump changes and being continued after Rhea.

No, his team was. He might of been head, or had the basic idea but with out without him the work should continue as scheduled in the way it was chosen. This is how things work. A new team head might tweek or change the vision, but usually once a project is approved a certin way the work keeps going no matter who is there.

Now if CCP Seagull left then yea things would prolly change, but the point of a working group is to have everyone who is going to touch stuff lay out exactly what they are planning. And you still follow the roadmap. So as I said, rockstar status.

Which is why I said "key figure" rather than "entirely responsible for". Of course there will be some impact. Probably won't be critical but you can't change a team lead and expect no effect, especially if the work is complicated.

I am thankful that CCP either let him go or he left of his own will. CCP Greyscale had a vision for Eve that simply wasn't in the interest of "Fun", which was apparent by his repeated development decisions.

My faith in CCP just skyrocketed- rolling back an incomplete feature (teams), some new awesome quality of life changes, and no more of Greyscale's "extreme" input. The future of Eve is looking great.

So he introduces the mechanic that encourages Eve players to play more LoL (+Chivalry etc..)

Then leaves for Riot Lol

Greyscale was a true Eve player, he played our game of secrecy and scheming to perfection! Sure he didn't take assets (probably Blink) but he took the playtime with him.

Ex-CCP-Greyscale, if you‘re reading this, thank you for your work and good luck! I loved crimewatch, new industry, and especially the jump drive nerf :)

Q: Should we be worried?
A: Nope. (...) Worry a lot if Fozzie, Masterplan, Rise, Veritas, Bettik, Ytterbium, Scarpia, Arrow, or even Greyscale leaves. Worry a little if Punkturis, karkur, SoniClover, Affinity, Goliath, or Xhagen leaves.

(Another) winter is coming. And CCP should be moving their foreign talent to better liveable places than Iceland. Ugh

that he still roams,

o7 CCP Greyscale.

I find his disappearance on the eve (heh) of the nullsec revamp interesting, but then CCP Veritas left after the team working on Dogma was in place; it could very well be that they saw that things were in good hands and it was a good time to leave without being too disruptive.

Thanks for seven years, and good luck wherever you end up!

As I said, following devs like rockstars... makes no sense. We have gained seagull, I'm not worried. And as I said before, this is what networking is. You get a buddy who goes to a new company and then they can help you get in later, for whatever reason. And I would not blame greyscale for leaving, the vitrial the guy got for the jump fatigue alone... sheesh.

Career Jump Fatigue initiated... 5 years before next resume may be sent.

Good Luck Greyscale. Sad to see any polarizing (yet passionate) individual go. Good hunting.

Every Dev that leaves can openly play the game, if they so wish... shame not to see more of them taking up the pod, honestly.

I know CCP Greyscale was quite polarizing for some, was stuck with a tough job that always was going to attract some flak, and sometimes involved some pretty big risks that were hard to get buy in from the community over. Time will tell how some of the later initiatives he spearheaded really turn out, but I'll always remember him for some very intelligent discussions held at Fanfest and wish him all the best with his next role.

It amuses me when players blame a dev for a change as if that dev came up with the idea, made the change and authorized that change all on their own. All done without any input or work from other devs, or authorization from their boss. Its like the morons that complain about the development of a UI change is a waste because those devs working on the UI should have been working on Sov.

The simple mentality of gamers is indeed universal across all games. I hear the same things in other game forums.

He did well to stick to his guns over the jump changes, despite the avalanche of short-sighted whining that came in his direction. In the end he was proved right on that front.
