Wormholes Are Too Hard For Noobs

Hi there. I have been playing EVE on and off for a while now. Recently I started doing some scanning, I mostly discovered wormholes that lead to impossibly tough systems for a a solo player with a small ship to investigate and loot. My question, are all wormholes like this? do they all lead to very tough systems that require massive firepower before you can explore and plunder them?

Thanks all.

Wormholes aren't meant to be solo. Like incursions, they're built around having groups to help you, and that you can in turn help.

Look into some of the newbie-friendly alliances that have wormhole groups if you'd like to get involved with wormholes. They'll be able to help you out, give you advice on fitting and skills, and can get you trained up in the holy word of Bob.

There are 6 classes of wormholes. The game client won't tell you which you are in (it gives hints only).

The PVE hazards in them are generally designed for the following:

C1: Low skilled battlecruiser
C2: High skilled battlecruiser, HAC or strategic cruiser
C3: High skilled battleship, blinged HAC or semi-blinged strategic cruiser
C4: Marauder or high skilled and blinged strategic cruiser, or 2-3 ships
C5: 3-4 ships with additional capital support (2 Dreadnoughts and 2 Carriers recommended)
C6: 6-8 ships with capital support (2 Dreadnoughts and 2 Carriers strongly recommended).

Highsec wormholes only lead to C1 to C3 wormholes IIRC (someone please correct this if wrong)

I support the New Order and CODE. alliance. www.minerbumping.com

Wormholes have different classes (C1-C6) with varying difficulty, while C1-C3 can be done solo, it is still pretty difficult until you figure out how to properly do them. My advice would be to join a group that know how to operate in them and learn from them. If your not interested in that, use them to navigate through to low sec or null sec systems.

This is easily circumvented by googling the system name, it is all pretty well documented.

There are several classes of wormholes. You can do a C1 in a cruiser or battlecruiser; they at most allow medium-sized hulls.

There is also a frigate-only type of w-space systems [only medium hull that can squeeze into one is a HIC].

Most of w-space is intended for teamwork, especially C5 & C6 which allow capitals.

http://www.ellatha.com/eve/wormholelist.asp
http://www.ellatha.com/eve/WormholeSystemslist.asp

Lots here too [scroll to the bottom]:
https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Wormholes

If you look at the info on a wormhole it will tell you more about where it goes to:

* "This wormhole seems to lead into unknown parts of space" = class 1, 2 or 3 w-space
* "This wormhole seems to lead into dangerous unknown parts of space" = class 4 or 5 w-space
* "This wormhole seems to lead into deadly unknown parts of space" = class 6 w-space
* "This wormhole seems to lead into high security space"
* "This wormhole seems to lead into low security space"
* "This wormhole seems to lead into null security space"

Don't know if the following is still accurate after the graphics were changed:
http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Visually_Identifying_Wormholes
It is based on the colour of the nebula, as wormholes of the same class are in the same nebula.

I still do single probe scans to note signature strengths, even though it is considered by some to be an obsolete practice (though it still works if you compare strengths, rather than expect a specific strength).

You are wrong.

Example: M555 to C5, B041 to C6.

Then you may find a K162 (generic exit), which could be the exit of a D792 from C5 to hisec, etc.

Also possible: hisec > hisec, hisec > lowsec, hisec > nulsec.

It depends what WH you found.

A C1 / C2 wormhole (see Tau's post) can be done with a good skilled Battlecruiser solo.

A C3 is possible with some good skills to be solo in bigger ships, C4 and above is really build for teamplay.

Then again, why do people expect that everything must also be able to be done as a very very fresh pilot. That will take away any of the long term goals you can set yourself or the need to play together.

Hence why Sabriz said that it won't tell you but just gives you the hint.

What you do is take that hint and use it to search for it.

Even for a tech 1 frig there are many scannable sites in wh space can be hacked. Good and easy way to make isk, but kinda dangerous pvp-wise.

Also just because you enter through a frigate hole doesn't mean that there can't be another hole (that allows larger ships to come through) open at the same time somewhere else in the system.

And high sec holes can most definitely open directly to c6 we've had as much as 6 high sec connections once in our hole along with some ahem *lacking* individuals just jumping straight in from high sec ... Pirate
Would had loved to see the guys face who popped in from the hole as we were assembling a fleet by it, sort of "oh hi, welcome to WH *pop* ". Blink

Anyway should you wish to explore and live in WH's then some research and a good corp would be in order.

The thread title made me laugh. Congratulations you win eve forum warrior for a day.

Otherwise the advise above is mostly gold. I live in a C5.

T3s are really great for WH because of mass, where BS can't be a pain sometimes. But you need to bling them a bit to tank and DPS sleepers, like about 600-700M each at least. Some are even more expensive. And that is after they have come down in price at lot.

C1/C2 can be soloed in a well-fit Battlecruiser, bear in mind that the low-class wormholes also have null-level exploration sites which do not have enemies and have better can loot than the WH relic/data sites.

There are 25 wormholes with a mass limit that effectively limits you to double bubble HICs, destroyers and frigates.

For the record, I am a new player and so far the most fun I've found in game is exploring wormholes solo in T1 frigates.

It's difficult, you can't fight anything (even getting in range of things will get you killed) but there's nothing like the feeling of accomplishment you get from hacking into and looting a site, getting 20x more cash value in your cargo than your ship is worth.

Dangerous but fun.

Those are wandering connections, the holes they lead to will still have normal static or statics that medium sized or larger ships can go through.

Edit: sorry i was wrong. Didn't realize there were shattered wormholes with frig only statics.
