For mission running in a Vargur, and assuming Golem wing-man, what would be your recommended fit - 800mm Repeating Cannon II or 1400mm Howitzer Artillery II?

Don't use 1400s on a vargur, the dps loss to overkill is bad. 800s are the way to go

I run with a golem wingman fairly often. My only recommendation would you guys split targets up, you kill close stuff prioritizing small stuff while the golem starts on far stuff prioritizing large stuff.

You want close targets bc of falloff, and kill frigs before they get too close cause ya can
Golem wants large targets for application + doesn't want to lose a volley from you killing a ship it fired at before its missiles get there

1400s on a vargur tend to overkill fairly spectacularly except when they can't hardly hit at all because frigate in close orbit.

If you choose this path, be prepared to waste ammo and time or individually manage 4 guns and the targeting for them.

Talking more,

Flying crazier,

And drinking more

Making battleships worth the warp

Take a mobile depot and switch out guns as the situation demands.

After you run the L4's a bit you'll know when the 1400's are appropriate.
Worlds Collide first room is a good choice, as is any mission that has the NPC 50km+ from where you land.
As mentioned carry a mobile depot and refit to 800's when moving into a close range room.

Have the Golem work Frigates and Cruisers with cruise missiles and use the 1400's on Battleships. If you need to move down to Cruisers split the 1400's into pairs, and one shot them. Sometimes a single 1400 will blast a Cruiser, but because of rate of fire issues it is best to knock them off with a pair, and be done with them and move on. In split mode with 2 pairs of 1400's, which I call "Guns of Naverone" mode. I fire one pair and wait for the guns to 50% cycle then fire the second pair, this way your landing hits at twice your normal ROF.

The 800's go through a lot more ammo than the 1400's so I try and use the 1400's as much as possible, and only fit 800's for Buzz Kill and other short ranged missions with more Cruisers and Frigates than Battleships. 1400's are still very effective on NPC Battleships down to about 10km.

If going Solo then the 800's are the way. Without the supporting Golem or Tengu to deal with the small craft you end up spending a lot of time using drones to take them out, while they swarm around you.

Players are a different story, 1400's are nearly ineffective against a player unless they are webbed and nearly immobile at 20km or better.

With a Vargur and Golem there is no worry of being overwhelmed, even in Worlds Collide. Just start hitting your assigned class, and punch through. Full room aggro is no problem.

As my fit has something like 60km falloff and both an MWD and an MJD, there's really no reason to have anything other than 800s. If something is 60km or more away, MJD at it. Then it's 40km or less.

Blanking signatures doesn't seem to work, so this is here.
