Angels at HED-GP: My perspective of the Battle of HED-GP

It was just another standard day in Eve Online, about 6 pm my time. Flying with my corpmates in Mordus Angels doing what we do best: hunting goonies and anyone else that got in our way on our roam. During our roam, we came across a heron that we bubbled up and began to pop. BLAM there went his ship. We started to lock his pod. Right before we blapped his pod, he left these words in local: "MOA head to HED, ***** going down."

We wrote it off, which I now regret. Fast forward three hours and we got the second alarm. Our FC's got intel that there was a battle going on in HED that was the size of Asakai. One look at DOTLAN and our FC's put out the word: "Put down what youre doing, get into inty's and burn to HED-GP, NOW." So we did. 9 pilots in inty's burned as fast as possible, discussing amongst ourselves about what to expect at the fight. One thing was certain, TiDi was going to be serious.

Stopping at Amarr, we transferred our clones so that we could reship should things turn sour for us. It was briefly discussed that we could reship now into stealth bombers and lob bombs into the blob at the battlefield, but we had already come this far by inty, so we resumed our trip in said vessels. At times, we found ourselves warping to the beside enemies of Mordus in hisec, as hundreds of pilots streamed towards the battlefield. Finally the moment came and we hit the HED-GP jump. Aaaaand TiDi. 2 minutes of jump later, we were in HED. One of our ships had scouted ahead and found the blob, providing us a warp-in to the battle. So we took warp, right into the middle of the blob.

At this point, it was agreed amongst us that it was every man for himself, but we would still communicate to identify ships about to bite the dust so that we could get in on the kill. The first ship identified as taking damage was a Ragnarok. I locked it, and went into orbit around it. This being my first time ever encountering a Titan on the battlefield, much less fighting one, I did what I figured any interceptor pilot would do. I hit my point, then my target painter. Neither activated. Stupidly, I continually pressed them, trying to figure out what "Natural Phenomena" would keep my stuff from activating. I voiced my concerns on comms, and one of my fleet members told me that stuff doesnt work on titans. So I went for my Autocannons, a second too late. The Ragnarok exploded, and I missed the killmail.

The rest of the fight was pretty standard for us. Identify vessel about to die, fire at it. Unfortunately, Mordus Angles had arrived late to this esteemed event, and at this point Black Legion was having problems taking supers off the field as Pandemic Legion had overwhelming reps. Mordus managed to get onto 4 carrier kills before Black Legion called stand down and began a hasty retreat. More talk among Mordus, and Some pilots left, leaving us with about 6 pilots in inty's on the field. We exited the blob after seeing Pandemic Legion beginning to stabilize the situation (and not wanting to be on the km of PL's anti-tackle clean-up crew). We began to planet-hop, acting as a hunter-killer team to try and capitalize on the hectic in-system situation. Our first drop resulted in the death of a Rifter and his pod. Then, using local as intel, we warped to another planet where a friendly Dread was tackled. My team killed the inty (which I didnt get on), then we shifted focus to a Thrasher. Blapped him. Next up was a stabber. We got him through half--shields until I got double-pointed by an Ares. Wanting to make sure none of us were tackled so that we could all get away if things went bad, so Ares was primary. Unfortunately, he got away in structure, and a fleet of inty's dropped on us and primaried me. Now in pod, I (almost disastrously for me) warped to Hisec gate, and hit a bubble. Thank God for the amount of pilots and TiDi. I turned, banked out of the bubble, and warped away (after getting hit by a laser that took out my pod shield). Voicing my concern about our escape over comms, One of our intys provided a ping above gate so that we could get out, and the call went out: "Time to go home boys". All said, we lost five ships and three pods. I got to Amarr, reshipped, and began my trip back home.

So the TL;DR:

MA heard about the battle in HED, jumped into inties (thought about jumping into bombers), jumped into system and whored in on killmails.

No offense but a part of me died when I read that. It's like watching a 30 ship ISBoxer fleet.

So. That's Eve. Muh stats. Or ISK.

Glad I missed the whole thing and didn't get tricked into wasting my time.

Yeah, it is pretty ridiculous. Like, well done for getting there and getting in on it, I suppose that is why these fights bloat up to these sizes in the first place. I guess if you took all the killmail whores out of a fight, you'd lose half the people who were 'involved'. I heard about the ***** going down when I logged in and asked where it was and upon hearing that it was on the other side of the universe, I lost interest again.

Idk, killmail whoring, whore guns, whore drones, ewar only on the pod... it's all a little disgusting and annoys me but hey... :killboardgreen: and much stats, very wow.

Sorry, I am just talking about killmails and killboards and stuff here. Still, glad you had fun going there and getting in on it. I listened to the stream a bit did a round trip to Jita. It was uneventful. There's my perspective =p

Killmail whoring is one thing, being long winded about killmail whoring is something completely different.

Doesn't matter, I approve of both.

I think you bring up one more reason not to get into these big fights. It'll be kind of hard to take, all that TiDi going on, because of the "extra" ships there flown by people who had no other reason to be there except "muh stats".

You'd think the alliances would be bothered by this.

Must be good for the statistics. I bet the boards now show you to be the skilled fighters that you truly are.

So what I am hearing you say is...

I went to HED with a bunch of people and pressed F1 until I exploded the end.

Simple, short and to the point. None of that long winded drama in between making it sound more majestic.

For me its all ABOUT the story. Every day in Eve brings a new story, and this one was the highlight of them all for me so far. So I thought Id share. From my perspective. The whole story. Dont like it? **** off. Im not into short and sweet mission reports. I wrote this for those that enjoy reading the stories of Eve. People like me. So what if its a killwhore story at heart. Its MY story. So kindly bug off to your own unimaginative corner of the Eve Universe.

Thankyou. None of that is dramatized. I kept it as accurate as possible. I like to share my experiences as full stories for those that enjoy reading peoples accounts of Eve.

I thought it a nice read as well
- I was there from the beginning to a few hours after midnight US EST -
My first time at a fight like that - It was crazy - Quite a bit was learned by a relatively green group of BRAVE's pilots
The chaos was unrivaled in my own time in many different games.. The TIDI got far worse than your 2 minutes of lag time though.

Well, most fiction or non fiction is kinda long winded drama making something seem more majestic then it is. That's why even Hollywood movies "based on a true story" are only partially true. Real life is not the stuff of epic reading. Or viewing.

I've jumped into a couple Spectre fleets and we headed to null for these epic bashes in slo mo. Yeah, tidi is a pain. I'd rather read stuff like the op then be there. But occasional interesting stuff can happen on the way there or back. It's ok if it sounds more majestic then it is.

I enjoyed the read. Thanks for posting.
