No Nebulas? Where are the physical celestial's that are ingame on the map (Actual Color filter)?

Universe level background is amazing - but needs more detail to show that they are actual galaxies instead of far away systems

Keep your ideas for map information and functionality coming. It's really important to bear in mind that this is an early opt-in alternative to the existing map that will have a lot of functionality added in as we build it up over the coming releases.

But please do tell us what is important to you in an in-client map, both for 3d and 2d modes.

I would love if this became my primary mode of navigation.

- Label my home system and jump clones
- Label where I have assets stored
- Label important stations and starbases (corp offices, trade centers, mission hubs)
- Label where my mission is
- Label where my expeditions are going

Well... let me label whatever systems I like, however I like with a set of icons of my choosing. (Plus automatically add mission and expedition stuff).

It'd be so much easier than typing in a system name, auto link, and set waypoint.

Second, we aren’t releasing it just yet, but we are hard at work on developing a dedicated two-dimensional, ”DOTLAN-esque” mode for the map which will be focused entirely on strategy and information. This mode looks very promising but we’ve chosen to hold off for the Rhea release in order to focus completely on the updated 3d map so that you get the best feature possible for Rhea. Look for progress reports on the tactical map after Rhea.

How about a wormhole mapping function in combination with proper wormhole bookmarking :>

Alright then:

  • Multiple Filters; for example Sec status + industry index, players in space + alliance members in space
  • Wormhole mapping
  • Blue Jumpbridges
  • Planning and saving and share functionality for commonly used routes
  • The more info the better: ore, ice, loot, npc faction locations, etc.
  • Market data mapping
  • custom filters for (self?) alliances and corporations to mark areas of spaces for a specific purpose, i.e. probably a color and some description
  • bookmarks as waypoints

We are working towards consolidating the solar system map and the star map into one seamless map.

I love you CCP. With windowed mode, this will make possible immersive navigation that doesn't rely on the overview. I love how you very easily see what celestial groups have a stargate and where it leads. Once this leaves beta, a windowed mini-map should be enabled by default and newbies should be encouraged to use it for navigation in the tutorials.

Will we see a roadmap of the map-specific development plan once Rhea has launched? I have so many dreams for the features you could theoretically implement for this map system in the future...

  • Visualization for D-Scan, camera tracking mode, or a transparent overlay option.
  • The functionality of the current F11 map is coarse but effective. Being able to tell at a glance which direction you need to turn your ship to D-Scan static celestials like stations complements the Compass very nicely. The new map should retain the functionality before it leaves beta.

  • Bookmark and Mission markers.
  • As a newbie I remember missing the "Set destination to mission objective" option, and a personal visual marker would help intuitively orienting yourself in the event that a mission takes place in a different system.

  • Fleet, Corp or Alliance-based map markers.
  • Broadcastable/dynamic map markers would be useful to mark staging systems, campuses, or target systems on a massive scale without having to rely on text messages. When you have multiple Fleet Adverts available, visualizing where they are can help you join the closest one.

Granted, I haven't been able to get onto sisi to test yet, so just basing these comments on what isn't mentioned in the dev blog.

When you probe ships/structure down, it will appear on solar map Big smile

Show blue fleet movement on solar map (not star map), just as your probe when you launch them is good enough. Easier for FC to understand situation :)

Actually, that would be awesome if map can show what your see with dscan :) Radar screen? Lol

These modes can also be resized and makes it very easy to run the map on a second monitor full time.

I assume that it still runs inside the same window (as far as the Windows window manager is concerned) as Eve? So for it to run on a second monitor I need to stretch the Eve window over 2 monitors? Or is it a separate window?

Yes, same window as eve, you would need to stretch the eve window to two monitors.

has multi window mode been considered? I would love to have a second eve window instead of having to stretch the whole scene over two monitors.

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

Awesome! Glad to see improvements coming to the star map!

It does really need a search function: here's a scenario I encounter several times a month

I'm in unfamiliar space following the incursions. I want more faction modules for my ship. I look for a loyalty point store.... and there's no easy way to look up "closest Minmatar LP store" or caldari, etc.

It would be cool to have a "search for station owned by -____ NPC corp-"
for example: "station owned by -Caldari Steel-" and you get a list of Caldari Steel stations, maybe a lost organized by number of jumps.

Anyway, that would be something cool to see in the next few updates

Keep up the good work!

-Jacob Katruun

Usefull yes but why don´t use they agent locator for this purpose? Set Corp., set Agent Type to "Any", maybe add Highsec and look where the next station is?

EDIT to be not OT: Am I the only one who thinks the new map is really sexy? Lol

can you confirm this can be dragged out to a 2nd monitor as it states, or will I need the eve client to stretch over both screens?

Looks great.
I had trouble, trying to "set destination" to my "home" (set by my Clone)
It's easy enough to do it, on non-home systems.

I would love to have a 2D map that works kinda like a continuously scrollable/draggable and zommable version of DOTLAN, so that there is no hard transition between space regions anymore but the flattening is done in such a way (as DOTLAN already does) that all connecting paths are always clearly visible and discernible.

Since gate travel is instant and does not care for true euclidean distance the only important metric to describe EVEs topography is the number of gate jumps between two systems.

People planning travel via jump drives and/or jump bridges could easily use an overlay to mark jump range in 2D.

A 3D map will always be awkward from a usability point of view as long as the positioning of star systems and gate connections in relation to each other and more importantly in relation to the users visual angle stays fixed. In my opinion a good 3D map needs to adjust star positions in real time, in order to avoid occlusions. It seems to me, that this is so much harder to do than a properly flattened 2D map (which would of of cause store and use the real 3D coordinates for calculations such as jump range).

@CCP Rise: Did you consider the possibility to integrate the new starmap into the sky / background? That would be maximum immersion.
