Probe Signature Scan ID's

So the official Evelopedia scanning guide says: "It should be noted that an ID column is also present in the result window, which is missing from the image above. This gives an unique ID about the signature and is useful for one to distinguish different signatures within a system. The ID is only used as an identifier of the signature and currently is not known to provide any information about the site. The ID also changes between downtime."

However, I've noticed across multiple systems that many signature scan ID's will share the same last 3 numbers, and the other signatures often seem progessively numbered as if signatures are given numbers in the order they spawn across a region or the whole galaxy.

Is there any information out there regarding this? Also, is there anything else out there that can help me deduce information about signatures upon first scan (like a library if sig strengths and sites)? My guess is that those sites that share a common number were spawned immediately after DT so they wouldn't be ordered.

CCP acknowledged that there is a problem with the Sig IDs being non-random since the most recent expansion and said they are working on fixing it (#12).

It seems that when new Sig IDs are assigned to cosmic signatures and anomalies every DT (the sites themselves aren't respawned, they are the same sites in the same location as before DT), the new Sig IDs seem to be allocated in alphabetically ascending order, sig by sig, then system by system. There is still however no correlation at all between Sig ID and what type of site as signature is.

What this DOES tell you however is that sigs with IDs ending in "-447" etc. have been around since downtime and are more likely to be gravimetric or wormholes (which don't despawn immediately) or sites that no one else wants (e.g. drone sites), whilst signatures ending in higher numbers like "-460" etc. are new respawns.

I was going to say that this newly minted bug isn't such a bad thing, but given that Swiftandbitter site, whether or not it changes will be irrelevant. Thanks a lot this will be very helpful.

Just to be clear, there is nothing official about the evelopedia. It is a wiki. If I wanted to I could go into that wiki entry, delete everything that is there and instead link a video with the title "How to Use Scanner Probes" that would then redirect to a rick roll on youtube.

Not saying what you quoted isn't correct or true, just saying that you definitely should not take it as "official."

Yeah, I do probably trust it too much. And thanks Emp. S for your contributions to that cheat-sheet.
