Steps to survive Freighter bumping from Mach

Scouting ahead is key to avoiding being bumped, if you see a frigate orbiting at an in-gate, then the next gate has a Mach, it is pretty safe to assume you need to dock or get your webbing alt. Have your scout fit up with a ship scanner to confirm scanners and bumpers. Once you scout for a while you will be able to see what is going on pretty clearly. Marking known bumpers/scouts and gankers as red makes it even easier.

It's probably been said dozens of times already, but here are the most obvious answers anyway:

1) Have a scout.
2) Have a webbing alt.
3) Keep to a reasonable cargo value, definitely less than 1 billion isk.

Doing ANY of the above drastically reduces the risk of getting ganked.

People keep saying stuff like this, and then they banned ISBoxer. Turns out mindlessly grinding eternally with endless alts is not a playstyle supported by CCP, and what's more is that CCP is almost happy to lose their subs.

I truly doubt "pretend it's a single player game and other people don't exist" is a supported playstyle either.

In the meantime however, hauling freight with a web scout is not optional if you give a damn about defending yourself. And if you don't, turns out that such people being exploded is working as intended.

There are quite a number of ways to protect yourself, before and after a bumping ransom commences.

One of the best is simply to buy a New Order permit before encountering trouble, and follow the CODE. Won't protect you from non-New Order people, but they are pretty rare.

Or you can do what I do, and get useful idiots to do all of your hauling for you via overcollateralised public courier contracts. Market prices for courier contracts are simply far, far below what anyone that values their time would do.

I support the New Order and CODE. alliance. www.minerbumping.com

So, what's your complaint? Or, did you say this to suck up to the gankers thinking they're the cool kids and they'll let you sit at their table if you toss them your entire lunch tray?

Pirates don't pay. Crime does. It's just like the EVE economy. It's driven by the whimsy of 20% of the player base, not the actual factual. It's just that, wishy washy wussie reactions like yours just sort of cements the deal.

If CCP moves forward with removing the ability to freely aggress members of your own corp, webbing a freighter is not going to be an option anymore. Unless you want to go through the whole circus of using the dueling system.

Which, since it renews every time either of you agress, is still hilariously easy.

I remember your corp. I was in it. Yeah, then Praethis Starloe heisted an ITAH wormhole for a few bil and invited me to join them, taught me to PVP. Ah, nostalgia. Tell me, are you guys still carebears? Does DJLJR still suck in assault frigates? I noticed Death Perfect is back so maybe you guys have some hope.... unless I steal him from you. We'll see.

Heh were you? Cool. Well as you can see, DP is CEO now so things are changing, once we decide where to go/have decent active numbers.

I may have a place for you all. I'm sure DP will update you when we've spoken properly. In the meantime, go play with some freighters.

An alt in a frigate a few hundred KM off grid. Manually adjust your frigate's position until your frigate is in line with the direction your freighter is being bumped. You should be able to warp to it.

I suspect some middle ground could come of it but remember that a SB cloaking "nerf" was voided by the coming change to ISBoxer rules, a last second change in course.

When I read your post a thought occurred to me. Probably not a good thought to have but I wondered "what is someone playing alone hauling so much stuff for, whose stuff is it, and why?"

It links together. If a player cannot be an entire squadron of ships "so easily" as that amounts to a plurality of assets - assets in this game being a metric of force (war fighting resources and logistics) - then the capability of one person being unfettered in moving so much in assets could fall under that same mindset.

And we may end up seeing the un-subbing coming not from the PVP crowd but the people running big market and hauling activities. "Why have freighters, then?" People will ask? But others may wonder why a freighter that can hold the belongings "worth" of a medium corporation can be flown solo without backup and protection from said corporation. If someone cannot "so easily" run an entire PVe corp farming incursions and missions, we can think along the same vein with the ISBoxer rule change as well. See the pattern here?

Whether there is ever a change to bumping or not, there's sure to be some "tears". Looks like CCP don't like us playing alone.

And what I'm trying to tell you is that, if CCP is willing to burn the ISBoxer accounts without looking back...

then if the haulers get up and say "either remove all of my risk or I quit", then the most likely response is going to be akin to "don't let the door hit you."

Bumping isn't going anywhere barring a full rework of the game engine anyway, so it's incredibly pointless to even have this discussion.

The discussion is what can be effectively done against this mechanic.

This is not about players, it is what they are using to accomplish their task.

And all I see here, don't solo, don't fly alone, carry nothing, have an ALT and have a slave - preferably two. Not inspiring to be honest, but at least it is something.

The risk reward, then just sucks. Might as well do anything else, but hauling.

What can a busy person to do nowadays, and still at least have some fun flying through eve. Spin ships?

Have done proxy wars, espionage, what else is there?

The origin of your post was a gank where you were carrying 5bil+

That was irresponsible but I am confident you already understand that. If you follow general safety procedures as outlined in this thread you will have a completely different experience.

As I previously mentioned, the best way to avoid being bumped is to not put yourself in a position where you can be bumped.

You eluded that you are not satisfied with the options as they all require multi-player roles, I hate to break it to you, this is a multi-player game. It is designed so that running solo is doable but a lot harder than having friends/alts.

Or of course, they could give freighters REAL Fittings.
They are Capital ships, give them the same slot layouts and fitting allowances as Dreads or Carriers.
Still no Turrets, Launchers or Drone bays obviously. But at that point they can actually choose a whole lot of fitting options.
Split a lot of their cargo off into a 'special' bay that can still carry anything. Or a Fleet Hanger if that's what they choose. And you don't have to worry about them hauling capitals internally.

At which point they would actually have reasonable tools at their disposal to do things with.
Including LOL Smart Bomb freighters on low/null gates, which would be funny :P
But things like Target Spectrum breakers should be fittable to things like Freighters for examples. They should be able to web each other so teamwork rather than having to have an alt in a frigate be considered compulsory.
Why shouldn't a freighter be able to MWD or Cloak.

It would make the game a lot more interesting and stop treating Hauling pilots like second class citizens fit only to be ganked or flown by alts if they actually had real fitting allowances.
Yes, base EHP unfitted might have to drop slightly, or might not, given how easy a gank currently is and that even 1 Million EHP is still gankable. But the splitting of most of the cargo space into a special bay or fleet hanger also removes the compulsory cargo rigging that happens for anyone needing to haul large volume material. Just leave enough in the base cargo that it's not a no brainer to ignore cargo rigs (Like, 500k Special hanger, 250k base cargo) and you will get a whole spectrum of interesting fits.

And we can LOL at the people who max cargo fit, haul 10_ Billion and get ganked still, since people will. But the people who don't and do good fits will feel much better.

No, not 5+ that the kill was like a year ago, and i did say a word about that.

This time i survived, was carrying tops 2b, maybe it was 1.5 even.

That is still too much. Keep it under a bil and you won't be targeted for anything but lolz, lolz gankers are the easiest to spot and avoid.

They are almost invincible when flown with the current reasonable tools at their disposal. My freighter alt has yet to lose her cargo despite often carrying 2bil or more in her hull.

They absolutely do not need any additional functionality in any way. They are supposed to have some chance to die, you realize.
