AFK Flag?

Here's one, and a hopefully simple one: What about adding an 'AFK' flag to people? Something that would show up as a little icon next to their name in chat. This could be a self-marked thing, just right-click on yourself and select 'Set AFK' or something like that, and the same to undo it. This would be really nice.

I guess I don't see any reason why not, as long as only you can apply it, it doesn't apply automatically, and you can limit who can see the tag by standings.

I don't see why we need this. If you're docked in station, what does it matter if you're AFK. If you're in space, you're just holding a sign that says, "gank me first."

Or buff cloaky campers. Set yourself AFK and allow neutrals to see it, and watch as they rat in what they think is safety.

It matters when your alliance members want something from you and ask you a question in alliance chat, for instance, without knowing that you are not there. Such a notification icon can be very helpful there. That said, this notification icon should not be visible to anyone else than alliance and corp members or maybe public chats, but definitely never in system chats like Local.

My ridicule, heavy criticism and general pale outlook about your or CCP's ideas is nothing but an encouragement to prove me wrong. Give it a try.

This would make a difference how?

Scenario One (No Flag): Alliance mate asks question in alliance chat and waits a bit for response. When no response comes, decides whether or not to mail you, or wait to talk to you later.
Scenario Two (With Flag): Alliance mate asks question in alliance chat and waits a bit for response. When no response comes, decides whether or not to mail you, or wait to talk to you later, because he can't see your flag in alliance chat unless you have made a comment in that channel during the last 15 minutes.

Simply tell your corpmates and people in small public/private channels you're going afk, and you remove need for this idea.

In scenario 2, s/he contacts me via TS or other comm platforms directly or goes directly to the mail instead of waiting for an answer in a chat, where the question is probably buried under loads of other crap by the time I am back. And of course I would have flagged myself as AFK and would have turned around my open/closed sign on my CQ door.

Yes, love it: anything to add life to role play in eve... although i am sure that we all have different definitions of what role play means.

DnD (do not disturb) flag that works only on private mail and convos would work better.

I suggest a "Player is in a cloaky ship" flag. And with enough skills you can directly warp to player.

Would be nice to have it at least in corpchat so people in corp know I'm afk. And as long as only you can apply it, it doesn't apply automatically.

Agreed its horrible when youre trying to figure out whos afk or not in corp chat when your trying to engage something like gatecamps or other gangs add that one should be able to filter their corp chat from people that set themselves as AFK.
