Hello everybody,
I would like to suggest 3D maps .Now we only can see and travel through the map as a one floor 2d many dots map.But we are in space and nothing is flat in space. So my suggestion is to have 3D map and able to travel though more gates ,in and between many floors .I know that most of you will say that this will override the server probably but this won t happen if done probably.

In that way ,people will be able to travel in space like null or low sec through different routes and will be really interesting . Not like now that we know that people must fly through there to go there so let s camp etc etc

Feel the wrath of the GECKO!

There's a button on the map control panel labelled "unflatten map." Click on this to see the star map represented in 3D.

Also, with a few exceptions, there's usually more than one route from point A to point B, it's just the shortest ones that are usually camped.

Nope still the routes are limited like 2d.I m suggesting something more 3d and more beautiful.Something that you will understand you go to a different location .Now they are simple dots with names nothing more.

The map is already 3D - I love it, but I think some people find it confusing to use this way (but it is continually more useful). As the other guy said......set map to be unflattened.

Then you click and drag to rotate the map around in 3D space and you will see that in fact stars on the map are not all on one flat plane.

We use 2d representations of things that are 3d because it is far easier for us to understand than 3d models.

Shifting the map from 2d (dotlan style) to 3d (unflattened map style) results in much confusion. It becomes difficult to trace routes from a point A to B. The only real advantage of a 3d map is an ability to more easily show real distances between system via connecting lines, but since 99% of the time you are trying to get a jump capable ship from A to B, A jump planner tool like the one in dotlan navigation is still far superior to a 3d map with labeled real distances.

-1 for an non useful use of developer time, if an easily understandable 3d map is even possible,

I actually find the 3D version more intuitive after you learn how to use it......

Anyways, OP -> here is your 3D map (which already exists).

Still the are dots with names .Nothing impressive like a space map should look.It can be improved and be simple at same time

I'm sorry, I...I don't understand. From where I'm sitting, it seems that you want a star map with 3D functionality, which as already explained (and even demonstrated by photo evidence), already exists. So...what exactly do you want?

Something like this or this probably.

Though I agree with others: Dotlan is a lot easier to read and understand than the ingame map, there's no doubt about that. And unless CCP does not include some functionality of Dotlan in the ingame map (like better highlighting of constellations, looking at particular regions and hiding all other regions, a more persistent stats display when you only look at a region/constellation (instead of tooltips appearing on the systems on mouse over, they then should be displayed all the time), etc.), I consider the ingame map barely usable.

My ridicule, heavy criticism and general pale outlook about your or CCP's ideas is nothing but an encouragement to prove me wrong. Give it a try.

Those are basically the exact same thing as the in-game map when it's flattened. The only difference is that the star representations/names are much larger in these two examples. They also appear to be much less dense (referring to the amount of stars) than the Eve map, which is undoubtedly why they are able to have larger representations. Dotlan is able to do this because it doesn't show all of the stars on one map the way the in-game map does, so it is also able to provide larger representations. The only problem I could see anyone having with dotlan is that it isn't "flashy" enough for them. But let's face it, if you're trying to set up a good travel route for what ever reason, it's far more beneficial to have useful information than it is to have pretty colors.
