The relic hunters challenge.
Ok so its late at night or should i say early morning and im bored so I've devised a challenge for myself, i will try and train a character and make a plex in 50 days or less. I started off by making a skill plan (which i shall post if i succeeded). I picked the helios as the end goal. It has a nice slot layout enough lows for a small active tank, enough mids for a relic analyzer, ab and some scanning mods and 2 highs for a probe launcher and a cloak (don't worry I'll post a fit). So this is a diary of my day by day with Flash Kuvakei. I will update you guys on my progress as i go along.

Day 1

Ok so I've started my toon, yes im gallentean for obvious reasons. First thing i did was remap intelligence/memory for optimal training. After trying to haggle in local for some spare change i decided to log in my main and sent myself some isk to get started with. Next i dropped in cybernetics to lvl4 (skill plan should be linked here somewhere)so for the next two days il probably be trolling around doing rookie missions. The total cost for the skillbooks i needed was about 10mil, most of them i found in the station i started in. Because im trying to earn enough to plex i try to budget and cut down on unnecessary costs. Next i headed over to Dodi and bought an imicus a probe launcher and some sisters core scanner probes yes they are worth it, im going to try and do some scanning with my crappy skill, yay CCP for astrometrics I. I open up my map pick a random system and set destination. So a few jumps in after dropping probes for the first time in ages i realized that the probe mechanic has changed and i can now launch all eight my probes at once (yes i derped already). I jump back to dodi grab some more probes and set out gloriously once more. Low and behold not even 2 jumps into my journey and I've scanned down my first relic site but will i be able to hack it nope because i have not the skill to fit the module... A quick switch of the skill queue and i will have it in the next four hours lel.

Day 2

Woop day two of the challenge, I'm back in dodi injecting some skill books and picking up a relic analyzer. After tinkering with the skill queue I've added a few lvl1 skills to use basic t1 mods that im going to need, mainly ab, damage control and a small armor repairer in addition to the relic analyzer. Thanx to CCP for allowing me to put rigs on my ship without skills, this really cuts back on training time.

Ok so here is my current fitting:

[Imicus, Flash Kuvakei's Imicus]
Damage Control I
Small Armor Repairer I
Nanofiber Internal Structure I

Relic Analyzer I
1MN Afterburner I
Scan Rangefinding Array I
Scan Rangefinding Array I

Core Probe Launcher I

Small Emission Scope Sharpener I
Small Emission Scope Sharpener I

Sisters Core Scanner Probe x8

I have decided not to troll around in the rookie missions and instead just dive head first into the deep end and start doing relic sites in high sec. I've got all my skill books in my cargo a mobile depot, small secure container and a cloaking device. Route is set for 36 jumps, lets get down and dirty. So I'm 20 jumps into my route and I've found countless wormholes and no relic sites... I'm not going to give up yet only 2 days in, my luck is bound to change. A few jumps later and i finally found a relic site \o/. So i made a total of 5k isk, its not much i know but its good practice for what i have planned. And another site bites the dust. Seems like its pretty easy to do if you can just find them. Found the first relic site that i couldn't scan down now I'm just sad, gotta wait for those mad skillz bro. So that's enough of my splurging for today.

Day 3

So on this day I cautiously ventured into low sec not knowing what to expect, luckily for me i picked a dead part of low sec and could sort of move freely or nobody paid a few day old toon any attention. I'm farming this chain to the best of my abilities and have made a 100 mil thus far, doesn't seem like much but to a new player its a lot. The plex is getting closer and closer and its only been 3 days. Its about a 8 jump chain i fly around in with many dead ends, ive probably scanned well over a hundred sigs and its all good practice for null sec the end goal of this challenge. So know i want to know should i go for a helios which pushes my training queue to its limit or should i go for an astero which will cut down training time drastically

Day 4

After thinking about it a lot ive decided to go for an astero its about a 15 day cut in my skill queue and the end result is the same. I had an encounter with a magnate in a relic site, nothing really happened we just each rushed the cans and tried to get the lewts. Ive acumalated some decent lewts in low sec which im moving out to high sec and selling. And the tally is in I've made about 84mil isk in the last few days, excluding faction bpc's i still need to sell. not bad for a 4 day old toon.

I will continue this series over the next few weeks until I get that almighty plex. You can join me in the in game channel: can he do it.

Day 5

I was fairly lazy, scanned the chain only once with no luck and logged off.

Day 6

This was a great day ... to die, only 3 jumps into my chain i found a relic site and whilst doing the site i was scanning and found another. I was so excited i rushed to finish the first and forgot to spam my dscan, suddenly a hound decloaks next to me and i start shitting enough bricks to build a small house. As I'm burning away with my hull alarm going off and my armor rep struggling to keep up a ishkur lands and blaps the hound, much to my relief I got out. One thing i learned today is always expect the unexpected in EVE. So after changing my undies I resume my scanning.

EDIT: After talking to the locals +1 to the astero who gave the warp in and saving my ass.

Flash, this is an awesome little story and I'm excited to see how it turns out. I have tried numerous times to PLEX a 21 day trial through various means but never stuck with it long enough to see how it would turn out. I also was doing it back when exploration sites included combat so I was relegated to hi-sec where there wasn't much money to be made.

I have also been running sites in low sec recently. I found decent home in Amarr space where I can run into a low population string of systems. Last night netted me around 60 mil in 70-80 min, so I'm excited to do some more.

I'm curious to know why you chose Gallente as an "obvious" choice. Is that because Gallente space has better relic sites in general based on their salvage material drops and costs? Or was it a choice for the ships you start out with?

I chose gallente because it gave me a slight advantage towards the original ship i wanted to go for, now that i have decided to go for the astero the advantage is still there, by advantage i mean a few hours of training saved xD. At the moment amarr relic sites are the ones to run they're the most profitable. As soon as I can get an astero I'll be going to null sec and hopefully not just vaporize upon landing on the first gate.
