as i belive they are called in wow.

It would be nice to have something like this available a few places in hi sec. Maybe in the form of harmless, imortal sleepers of different sizes flying around. That way players (especially newer), can get a feeling of fighting and preparing for pvp, testing fttings and so on, without having to do missions.

Thoughts?

There is a test server available called singularity. You can use that for all your training purposes.
Also, some good advice, don't use phrases like "in wow", people react badly to those kinds of things

I think you want to keep the public high sec places as clean as possible, but if you really want NPC in highsec it would almost have to be one of the incursion npc's that has been too damaged to fire back.

I think the better alternative to target dummies would be a cheap replica of the ship you want, it will get same EHP as the real deal and it would explode in glorious fashion, could also be a great way to bait people into joining the fight

Thanks for the reply. True enough what you say about the test server. However, It seems like implementing something like i mentioned would be easy enough for CCP. Minimal effort. And it would make testing fittings etc easier. Add a fee and we can also get another moneysink. As the value of isk seem to be sinking, another moneysink can only be good.

As for the wow reference... Im sure many people here have tried wow at one point, and therefore know what i mean when i refer to "training dummies". This is the reason why i used the reference. We all play Eve, for a reason.

You'd actually be dead wrong if you think shooting a harmless, immortal target is a good way to test a fit. Mainly because, this isn't WoW. Fittings in eve HAVE to be tested in battle. It's not just a question of activating your mods and that's it (only exception, pve missions).
Not only that, but you need the personal skill too. Proper kiting is pretty hard to do, and something you won't learn plinking away at a static target. Trust me, the test server is a much better alternative.

ok ok... im not suggesting to remove the test server. This is simply a suggestion for a small addition. And i do agree with you that neither fittings, nor anything else can be fully testet in this way. Pvp in eve is not easy. And it takes a lot of player skill, not just character skillpoints.

However there are things that can be tested against harmless, immortal targets. Tracking, cap use, more optimal speed/distance/angles etc... And it seemed very easy to implement from a game design/coding pov.

This already exists. They are called miners and mission runners. While not immortal, they fit the rest of the description pretty well.

For that, you can use tools such as eft or pyfa, whatever floats your boat

Do you people feel some sense of magnificence when you say stuff like "this is not WoW"? Like you've achieved something? Vaguely pathetic, to be honest.
