Confused about SP loss. pls clarify

An alt of mine was podded a while back while taking a "shortcut" through null. He lost ammar industrial 5 but still has transpot ships trained to 3.

From all the discussion surrounding the dessi/bc/etc skill split & command ship skill revamp I was under the obviously mistaken impression that having a ship trained was the only requirement to fly it and that prereqs were only necessary to train the ship skill in question. Now my alt can't fly his poorly fit prorator.

On a completely disconnected subject... damn am I glad they are doing away with sp loss for poddings.

If a skill is only a pre-req for another skill and not for the ship itself, then losing it will leave you still able to fly the ship.

However, the requirements on the Prorator are:
- Amarr Industrial 5
- Transport Ships 1

Hence the lost skill is not a pre-req for another skill, it's an actual requirement on the ship. So lose it you can't fly the ship unless it's re-trained.

Damn. Another 5 days training lost to an alt. Guess I shoulda remembered to update the clone... or gone the long way through low sec. Lol

Look at the ship prerequisites.

Only the left-most skill(s) matter to piloting, i.e. the first skill listed in "Primary Skill Required", the first skill listed in "Secondary Skill Required", the first skill listed in "Tertiary Skill Required", the first skill listed in "Quaternary Skill Required", etc.

All the other skills listed are required for injecting those skills, and their prerequisites.

Example: to pilot a freighter you only need 2 skills: Advanced Spaceship Command 1 & Racial Freighter 1
