Ha! Now worries, I don't really mind. Feel free to continue right on flaming. I was merely explaining things to Omar, who seemed rather distraught. If I managed to survive a 35 page troll Code/Goon bounty thread, I'm pretty sure I can handle personal attacks for a simple Remmy.

Oh my, how valiant of you to survive 35 pages of words on the internet. Who is penning the saga?

No worries buddy, the Goon tears were priceless. Nothing more entertaining than a group of raging Goons furious that they lack the power to harm PvE players in highsec.

Why are you proud of the fact that you are incapable of protecting yourself and rely exclusively on unstoppable NPCS to save you from the consequences of your statements and actions?

Because that is what highsec is to me - a place where you do not need to protect yourself - you just need to tank enough to survive the 20 odd seconds until CONCORD comes. It's safe, there is police protection in place, the people are generally law abiding and friendly, and it lends itself to collaborative PvE activities rather than PvP. In short, it's what makes Eve fun for me. I often prefer to work with people to shoot up NPCs rather than to try and blow up other people. Thankfully highsec was designed with people like me in mind...and despite all the pathetic screaming for nerfs, for less safety, for broader wardeccs, etc.... (often by Goons!), CCP has thankfully decided to keep it robustly safe. And I'm proud to support that, and oppose the CODE/Goon agenda to force everyone into low/null.

Veers, I hope you know what a harmful effect you're having on the world. Every time I read your drivel it makes me want to punch a puppy in the face.

Plz, think of the puppies. STFU

Veers, you wonder why I no longer even bother with a pretense of respect for you in my responses. You are the epitome of risk aversion. Were you to have your way high sec would have no venues for non-consensual pvp, and all who dwelled within would have to submit to your twisted sense of space bushido. In short, you are the enemy of EVE made flesh.

By yourself you are not really a threat, the real threat comes when new players read your tripe and actually believe it. Fostering this 'I should be safe in high sec' notion on newbies is a far more asinine thing to do than any gank or flip and you should be ashamed of yourself for the harm you are inflicting.

Also, a 35 page thread of folks mostly mocking you isn't exactly something I would personally take pride in.

Edit: You seriously just said HTFU? Don't give advice you're incapable of taking, or for that matter apparently understanding.

More nonsensical drivel. And coming from someone who claimed to want to avoid the Grrr Veers stuff. Roll

Yes - I am risk averse. Here is a secret - so are the goons. So is the vast majority of Eve. Giant coalitions in nullsec - you guessed it, risk aversion.

As far as non-consensual PvP, I support suicide ganking in highsec. Please stop lying and making believe otherwise. I am fine with committing crimes in highsec, though I do think GCC timers should be longer for those with lower security statuses. Repeat criminals should be punished.

I'm sorry if you have a different vision for highsec than I do. Here is a clue for you Sherlock - I don't really care. You are someone that I don't regard very highly, and if you supported an idea of mine, then I'd be concerned. I welcome your hatred...maybe you should make another 35 page whiny troll thread full of hot air and failed wardeccs? Seems to suit you style.

Yes, I do believe highsec should be relatively safe, and that's not gonna change because of your whining. HTFU and cut the Grrr Veers garbage, it's pretty nauseating. Get a psychologist.

Not at all. People are certainly entitled to disagree and present other visions for highsec. Some would like to abolish NPC corps, get rid of CONCORD, make wardeccs easier and broader, etc.... The key is to disagree without flamewars, personal attacks, and Grrr Veers garbage...and that is where my opposition falls short. More immaturity and lack of emotional control than anything else.

Stealing a mission runners loot makes it impossible for him to complete the mission unless he somehow manages to retrieve the mission item. Nobody seems to mention selling it back to the mission runner. Standard practice in lowsec really. I don't get what all the fuss is about. Lots of people will start flaming a criminal player in local after a theft, and then find it odd the perpetrator isn't willing to negotiate a deal. This is a sandbox video game with criminals and goodie-twoo-shoes. Better get used to it OP, and learn how to PVP yourself. Everything in Eve serves PVP and that is a good thing.

Fortunately, by virtue of Veers' general irrelevance, we can all be thankful his 'vision' for highsec will go left unseen by the developers who don't share an ounce of it. His little tantrums on the forums notwithstanding, the latest updates to the game, as well as what's incoming, make it clear the direction this game is taking. Veers' obvious self-interest and delusions of self-importance are quite clear to anyone capable of understanding the true nature and intentions of EVE Online gameplay. I only find it sad how thoroughly he's convinced himself that he and his 'vision' matters to anyone at all.

Veers, if you have a 'vision', go make your own game with it.

Veers, that is actually called protecting yourself, in case you were previously unaware. CONCORD doesn't protect you, they only punish your assailant. I don't know how many times this has to be explicitly explained to you, by devs and players alike. Bottom line, if you're relying on CONCORD for anything, then you are simply doing it wrong. What you're actually doing is relying on your tank.

What highsec is to you is irrelevant to what highsec actually is.

True, many folks do use such tactics. I'm usually running solo when flipping, but not always. The thing is that so long as you're suspect you're also open to attack from anyone as well. I've had a target engage, which excited me, and then pick up the batphone.... 8 minutes later the Ishtar lands on grid, drops geckos and wtfpwns me, which made sad. Likewise I occasionally see destroyers come racing to the rescue of besieged mission runners as well.

I have surprised mission invaders by burning toward them in my Ishtar then warp scrambling and double webbing them.

It is possible to fit for both PVE and PVP at once.

Only in an Ishtar can this be done. Smile

That range tank while still doing all the damage too stronk.

Where's the fun in that? A serious risk of loss is part of what makes mission baiting fun.
I'm not against the use of logistics, mind you... it's just something I don't require to do my work on a daily basis. Usually I don't even have boosts, it's just a lonely little frigate looking for hot sweaty battleship/battlecruiser lovings.
The thrill when you're engaged by a ship that dwarfs yours and you see your shields melt immediately under their drones, followed by a frantic struggle to kill them off before they kill you... it's hard to describe. My heart tries to jump out of my chest every time, and I'm genuinely thankful that it happened after the fact... regardless of outcome.
I can't get that rush shooting red plusses or badtouching hapless asteroids. Only through human interaction is this possible.

Maybe I'm weird in that I want the fight more than anything else. Winning is nice, but it's still fun for me even if I lose.

Come hell or high water, this sick world will know I was here.

the mission takes places in space, which we all have access to. That's why they can interfere. YOu're not in a room locked away from EVE (like in WOW), you're in the same arena, and there's no rules. If they can find you, and the ability is there, then they can mess with you.

Be thankful that they actually have to scan you now ... many years ago, alot of missions took place just off jump gates, and people passing through could see you and your trail of cans, and watch you getting blown up if you were bad. Now at least, ... the 'passing trade' won't decide to randomly wander in, but someone dedicated.

Learn, adapt, and survive. Not meant in a nasty way, but it is the way of eve. Learn from your mistakes (and a mistake is anything you did, or didn't do, which resulted in something you didn't want).

Although I don't feel too bad for the OP, I think the people that say "PvP is everywhere" miss an important point.

Intent.

When I sell salvage on the market the intent is my gain. There is no intent to harm others, just help myself. The way some players are making their point is akin to saying, "Because you are breathing air you are denying air from someone else." Not true.

Players need to separate action from intent. It is what separates "playing the game" and "griefing".

What the OP ran into could be one of those borderline cases. If the other player was denying the resource for their own gain, fair play. If they were using the item to try and force a newer player into an unfair fight...

Luckily these decisions are up to CCP and not the player base.

Posts like these demonstrate a fundamental misunderstanding of what EVE is (notice the term "unfair fight", which is not possible in EVE because to have an unfair fight their must be some since of 'fair' to begin with, which EVE does not have).

The breathing air analogy doesn't fit. When a person sells something in EVE, he affects everyone else (negatively), if he DIDN"T see it, someone else could have made more money off of the exchange of his own items (because his own items would be worth more). Some guy breathing air in India doesn't get to breathe even more air if i die in Texas.

Intent is meaningless, no one cares what you 'want' or 'mean' to do, what matters is the tangible, measurable effect of what you do. And doing things for gain has a tangible, measurable NEGATIVE effect on others, which is one of the indicators of EVE Online being a pvp game (there other indicator being that is has people in it).

also, more ... being truly technical PVP means Player Versus Player. Dosne' tmean Player must Kill and fight another player, with or without intent. It merely says Player versus Player. Everything you sell, (and don't sell) either directly or indirectly effacts another player in some form. If it's sold, they gain item, and loose ISK (higher or lower than they should maybe too), if they don't buy then market is occupied which effects pricing ... however you play, your impact effects other players and fulfills 'PVP'.

PVE is also PVP, just indirectly, and PVE is just the 'tool' to PVP. doing PVE stuff is essentially mining a roid, trading items off market, you might think it doesn't affect other players, but it does. Each market transaction in trdaing effacts others prices to buy / sell, each item you put on to the market gives others ability to buy and use it.

It's all intertiwined ... and the fighting version of PVP is just another (albeit more visible and dramatic) effect of it. :)
