Ignore dps, speed, ect and just go 100% tank. What sub cap. ship with perfect pilot skills and ship fitting can tank the most dps and NOT run out of cap?

offhand, I'd have to say one of the tier3 BS... probably the abaddon?

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Well, a Tengu can get into 5000 DPS tank area with officer modules. You'd of course be alpha'd by much cheaper ships though.

Shield tanks tend to have higher DPS tanks but far less buffer than armor tanks.

I should add running solo. I want to fly a ship. Find some pvp, and last as long as i can vs as many people as i can. dont care about shooting back. Just tanking as much as i can

I'd go with something like a Rattlesnake or a Vulture.

Anyone think of anything that can out tank a Rattlesnake? (sub. cap) solo play and passiv.

rattlesnake or a very tanky t3 fit would be your best bet and of course you can always spend a fortune on officer mods to make it a very shiny thing to shoot at.

in all honesty in lvl 4 missions you dont find too many situations where you need over 8-900 dps tank so long as you manage your spawns half decently.

if pvp is your thing then active tanks arnt really desirable if your facing more then just one or two opponents as the alpha damage from your opponents volleys is usually more then an active tank can manage. and a pasive tank gives you the hitpoints buffer to mange a few large direct hits

Paladin. It got the best base resistances, very good capa, a repper bonus and plenty of cargo to bring loads of cap charges.

If you take all the sand out of the box, only the cat poo will remain.

First try: 11,404 DPS tank, cap stable at 38% with a full Crystal implant set and Strong Blue Pill booster.

Some things the OP should consider:

Thinking that increasing tank is the best way to up your survival is logical for people new to PVP but in reality this is not necessarily the case. Any realistic fit (outside officer stuff backed by gang links and possibly with a cyno on standby) will succumb to superior numbers and, generally, will be a very slow and easy to catch target. The problem is that if you bring a very expensive ship/fit that can tank Lucifer himself people will simply not engage and bring more numbers as you are a juicy target. Active Tanked PVP ships do happen solo but generally are "normal" ships like Myrmidon, Cyclone, Dominix, Maelstrom etc.

EVE is too much a strategy game to just base your ship on simple numbers like Tank and dps. A heavy tanked, slow ship will get bogged down, neuted and killed. A faster kiting setup with a good tank combined with good piloting can overcome a lot.

Have a look here (watch all those Force of Nature vids) to give you an idea how a non-uber ship with some good fitting and great piloting can make stuff happen.

I tanked sentries in a Rattlesnake with a 3 week alt and not all to expensive gear, pretty good ship imo

All you need is something with a neut and that thing turns into a shiny penyata. Talking about stacking penalty galore.

Damnnation?

I'm not sure, so don't quote me but I think that it has a pretty intense tank.

If I'm wrong please correct me.
