Sounds about right.

Although posting sarcastic comments on the forums must be included in this.

I myself am a bitter vet I guess, but in every bitter vet there is fanboy trying to get out and play.

CCP can screw up and lose the vets and other subscriptions the coming months, or it can gloriously pull through and achieve once again the momentum it build up along the years. I am not holding my breath, but my inner fanboy will be. (I hope he doesn't die)

A bitter vet is someone who cannot accept new changes or unable to adapt to them thus making their gameplay harder or rendering it useless, then they decide to use the forums in the hope that everyone agrees with their views and perhaps it will not change so the bitter vet can still have an advantage over everyone.

I could link some examples but their are too many threads in general chat at the moment so they are easy enough to find and perhaps a good example would be the current CSM issue's (trying to force a company to change their ways for their gain) as they are vets who cannot adapt to change and would rather listen to themselves and their mates of x amount of years so they can gain another advantage over everyone else (just look at my sig, this is a good example).

BTW i'm not a bitter vet, i just got better things to worry about.

The ones I see as bitter vets are those that go through the history and pull out only the negative things they don't like (often things that are just "opinion based") then declare how nothing has improved, nothing has been fixed, etc...

When you point out things that they should find worth while - it's replied with "yeah but ..." or "yes, there were things that did get better but not enough".

When that happens, and it happens for intervals with some, you have a "bitter vet" moment showing.

Some Vets get ANGORZ when NEWBs don't show them "due" respect.. I'm sorry you've been playing the game 5 years and your just now attempting things I learned from jump..

But without you Vets the info and common sense would not exist.. amirite?

So the next a NEWB pods you.. don't get bitter and all wardecy.. be proud of the up and comers at least we're not with the DRF..

A "Bitter Vet" is simply someone who's been around long enough to learn first-hand that SOON is a very, very long time.

When Eve is no longer about spaceships but is just a glorified chat room. Also its when you have been around long enough that nothing ingame actually seems worth it.

To the person who said a bittervet is one who can't adapt, you can't be more wrong. Most bittervets would love something new added that makes them rethink the way they do things, also they've been through a lot of changes already so are use to it. However that doesn't mean they actually agree with the changes and are usually just vocal about it.

Bittervet:

When learning skills where removed, nearly ragequitted because of newbies/noobs/others who did´nt maxed out them got SP shoved up their a**es from CCP.

Giving away millions to ppl asking for them in local.

Helping out a newbie in an ishtar in a lvl1 mission for posing.

Not getting nervous when knowing that you have no skill injected, and can´t log on.

Sadly this all is me. Bittervet?

I watched 2 hours of the last fanfest and i couldnt believe the tedium of the presentations, long ,boring, pointless, impractical and stuff that will never happen...... end of story.

people from NVIDIA talking about what they will be able to do in 2-3 more generations of graphics cards........

eve is still DX9.........!!!!!!!!!,,,,,,, pompous asses!!!!!!!!!!!!! and wont be DX10-11 for 5 years at least!!!!!!!.

And yet when CCP announced in April that they would discontinue Shader Model 2 support, there was a public outcry. Personally I would be happy if EVE would move to DX10 or 11 but the crying on this forum would get even worse.

Since you asked, yes I am a bittervet.

Well, I am an alt's alt, on a secondary account of a bittervet who's been in-game since May 2003.

So I think that makes me a bittervet... or is it just the main character? Well, she doesn't post much anyway.

I'm confused already. Must be getting old.

Why did you want to know?

This. There is literally nothing CCP can do that won't result in a shitstorm.

Your a vet when you learn to take EVERYTHING ccp says with a pinch of salt. I believe this can only be done because we have had years and years of "this will come soon"

Being a bitter vet isn't about how they treat newbies, because they are bitter not arrogant fucks, ;)

A bitter vet is a longterm eve player that became so desillusioned with the game and CCP that he only sees that abd things in new stuff and good things in long gone stuff. And he keeps playing (or paying depends) because he wants to stick around a game he once loved.

Its like a 50 year marriage turned bitter.

I've never really been bitter, i do miss the cruise missle kestral and the old days of 2005-2007 when small gnag pvp was alot more fun for me. But i have really just adapted over the years. It has taken me a while to get use to Incarna. And i was let down by the walking in stations but i understand that things develop slowly.

wow, I see a LOT of great replies.

In general you guys definition is a bit different from what I expected, which I find interresting.
It seems that from an objective point of view, bittervets is a bad thing to the game.

De-motivated players that are only here because of something that used to be.

At best, noobs will call you a bittervet because you have an experience that no-one else has in the game or atleast very few has.

I read all the posts and will try and write it together in the end on "What/who is a bitter vet"

(The PDF is a guide to becomming one, not a definition :P )
