Actually I consider the Thukker part of the Republic, in that statement. And even if they weren't, as far as I am aware the Thukker were never part of CONCORD prior to their joining the Republic and so wouldn't have been subject to its policies.

The Thukker are part of the Republic in name only. They have absolutely no jurisdiction over us, legal or otherwise.

It is because we retain our independence that we are not signatories to CONCORD; in that respect, you are correct.

Why, why do so many of my kin howl and gnash their teeth at the Republic? Is unity of purpose and direction truly so distasteful to all of you?

Rejoice in the fact that they are free to do so. Unity of purpose does not require slavish adherence to banners and borders.

Revered Shaman, I don't speak for all Thukker, but I believe my feelings are held by many.
If I may offer just a few reasons...

The Republic offers very little to our tribe, itself fragmented without common purpose or direction, each caravan forging its own path. This is our way.

The thought of our our proud tribe sitting as equals amongst Nefantar and Starkmanir is... unattractive, to put it lightly.

And we are free traders; the Republic would seek to limit that by dictating what we can trade and who with.

Further to that, we are also free in a political and cultural sense. My poem in the recent edition New Eden Life will give you an insight into our culture and sums up how many of us feel on these issues.

In short, Revered Shaman, the Republic simply cannot offer us a better way of life, despite its insistence that it can.

Ancestors walk with you.

Why would you ask the least interventionist power in New Eden to invade the home space of another territory? Setting aside our inability to take and hold that much ground, why would we want to? There are worlds enough in our own corner of space, thanks.

The Empire should want to because we outnumber the filthy Republic four to one and because the most famous sentence in our entire voluminous Scriptures is ...

Right, we all get why you guys would want to. Why would the State?

You said "We" in your previous post, Pieter.

You're in the Amarrian militia.

I'm a Kaalakiotaa citizen working for a Private Military Contractor that is currently under contract with the 24th IC. Ask the Empire if I'm part of the Empire. Most of them would be fairly shocked at the idea of a foreign mercenary getting such airs and graces. And then they'd pull that face.

You know the one. The one like there's a dead fish hidden in one of the airvents.

For the first time since I started the conversation, he looks me dead in the eye. In his gaze are steel jackhammers, quiet vengeance, a hundred thousand orbital bombs frozen in still life.
