I was flying a Thorax. I greatly appreciate all of the comments. Obviously the constructive criticism was greatly appreciated. Unfortunately a lot of you guys misunderstood what my point was. Anyone who said stuff like sandbox or salvage totally misread what I was saying and as for most people who mentioned PvP, there was also some confusion. Herzog Wolfhammer's comment on the first page was one of the better comments because he talked about the point I was trying to make. I understand PvP is a part of everything you do in EVE. To clarify, this is how I picture a solution to what I had an issue with. I dock --> view mission --> accept mission. Right after I do that, I'm the only one that can touch objectives in my mission, but as for salvage, duels, suicide ganks, etc. I honestly don't care about because I'm well aware I'm playing EVE. For everyone that said to go to CCP and ask for a reset, I did. They couldn't do anything for me. Some others commented back saying its not too big of a deal and I can earn back security standings quick which I realize now is true. Thanks again for all the comments.

The objective is free for anyone. Other players can profit off the objective by selling it to you or setting up a contract for others who lose their objective.

But how about we fancy something else. Perhaps it's time for missions specifically designed to be messed with by other players. Like missions that are given to two players at once and in some manner as "who gets to something/there/from somewhere first" ?

Maybe even factionalize the matter. In highsec Caldari space for example you get missions that for the most part would entail fighting the Guristas. Well how about players who prefer to be on the side of Guristas getting the "same" mission from a Guristas agent in such manner that you have two NPC agents pitting players head to head?

Yeah I know what the complaints would be "Hurr durr bitter vets will bring in 50 remote reps hurr durr" but we have already seen missions exert arbitrary controls on the gates so the mechanics to ensure against the game giving one player a gangfest over another would not be a far departure from the present system.

Rather than shy away from the prospect of this thread, maybe it's time to incorporate the PVP element in it and allow pirate sympathizers have their fun too.

Just an idea that I'm sure will be shot down or ignored because spergers gonna sperg (and hate change).

We have missions designed to mess with others. FW missions broadcast when someone starts them to everyone in system and gives a warpin.

The main issue with a competitive mission like the one you mentioned is that, if they are worth fighting over, they are even more profitable if you cooperate. You would quickly see people agreeing to "throw" the fight so they can blitz these missions and split the profits.

Not if the mission agent gave only you and the other guy a random seed to let you through the gate. Of course I shudder to think of the adoption of such a thing in anything besides a competitive mission, but for something like these it might be acceptable.

Although what you described has more panache. Maybe an NPC carrier gets stranded in lowsec or something, broadcasts it's arrival through the collapsed jump portal an hour in advance across a few systems. Free for alls are so much more interesting than scripted pseudo dueling.

The only times CCP reset missions are the tutorials and for bugs AFAIK.

Resetting missions outside of those circumstances is unlikely.

Random seed only works if you have a large pool of players. Chances are on off hours you will have few to no people doing these missions in a particular area, so easy to cooperate on. Heck, you could do it solo with an alt.

They reset L4 World Collide for me....didn't even need to appeal. The GM just set it to reset at downtime, brought back the damaged ship, and I was able to run and complete the mission.

Is there a written policy on resets?

A reset probably depends on circumstances, I've had a reset and my ship returned during the DDOS attacks, others have had them for bugged missions. The only ones I know of that are certain to get reset are the tutorials.

If you got a reset because someone else interfered in a mission then I'd say you were very lucky with the GM. I hope it never becomes the norm

Explain.

A cruiser is the highest ship that will fit in a level 2 gate.

Not all gates are equal. I have taken a Rattlesnake through a level 2 gate. just saying ...

Also remember even when the gate does restrict you to cruiser class ships a Tengu, Gila or an Ishtar all still count as a "cruiser" from the gates point of view :D

Challenging a person in a PVE fit ship is a douche move. It's not a challenge. If the situation goes bad for the PVP fit ship he'll just warp out, reship, and come back in something that can win.

Having said that, what happened is a legitimate form of game play. The OP made the right call in not accepting the duel. Sucks that he took your mission objective, but usually you can find those items on the market if you really don't feel like losing the mission.

Personally, I don't stop to ask a target how they're fit before I engage. For all I know, they're PVP fit claiming to be PVE fit to avoid a fight cuz they're weak. So you're going to have to define what makes someone a douche for not knowing how their target is fit. And before you say it, no, not everyone runs missions in PVE fits. Some people actually fly expecting PVP, they're the ones doing well at EVE and understand its nature.

"it's not a challenge"
I have half a dozen smoked incursii and a handful of wrecked ishkurs that would beg to differ.
Sometimes the bear wins, pve fit or not. That uncertainty and challenge is one aspect that makes flipping exciting, usually for both parties. The advantage shifts to one side or the other depending on how wily the target is and how well they interface with others.
The suspect can only engage those who engage him, whereas the besieged mission runner can call on any help that may answer.

Ha! Now worries, I don't really mind. Feel free to continue right on flaming. I was merely explaining things to Omar, who seemed rather distraught. If I managed to survive a 35 page troll Code/Goon bounty thread, I'm pretty sure I can handle personal attacks for a simple Remmy.

No worries buddy, the Goon tears were priceless. Nothing more entertaining than a group of raging Goons furious that they lack the power to harm PvE players in highsec.

Actually, I also don't stop to check their age. Not until the fight's over. You might wanna talk to the various 6-10 year old players I've killed about that though. They're all older than my 2 year old toon.

As for two month olds - one two month old I personally trained wound up beating a 2008 vet earlier this year, his little t1 fit Comet vs the vet's t2 fit Rifter. Don't even try to suggest to me that toon age is any measure of ability. For all I know, that 2 month old player is the alt of an experienced PVP veteran. You make no case when you don't think it through.

No just some of them. Try reading the corp ticker of the people who post next time. That is when you aren't too busy blowing up 2 month old players.

Another peril that mission flippers have to worry about is other flippers. I've had others drop in on me and have dropped in on them as well. More often than not this results in an immediate furball between the two as they go at it like two dogs fighting over a piece of meat. We will kill our own kind without hesitation or remorse. Granted it usually ends with 'gf' being slung around and a fun chat afterwards. Usually... there are exceptions.

Come hell or high water, this sick world will know I was here.
