OPSEC
Discussing your military posting in a public forum is a pretty big no no. No mater what country you are serving.

Few quick rules to keep you out of trouble;

  • Do not post the specific deployed location or where you are ported.

  • Don’t list your specific job in public online forums. Do you really want the enemy to know specifically what you do? That information could potentially be used against you.

  • when in doubt, don't do it. Contact you're friendly OPSEC/INFOSEC officer at your base or facility.

Remember: just because the military tells you something, does not mean you can talk about it publicly. Maybe privately – but on Faceplant or Eve forums? Not so much.

On the flip side you could very well be the enemy of [insert country here] are are trolling for information. Bad idea, move on.

Kindest Regards,

Ms. Swanson

Ooooh. And about opsec and posting, I cleared it asking about it with my chief and mti's. I understand your concern and point. Appreciated. But it's fine and I wouldn't had I been deployed or told not to. Or even overseas for that matter. Forward deployed even. i understand my part and my obligations as a service member and I take them very seriously. I'm just trying to find other players on base because we're kinda huge. So many students. I'm stateside and don't intend on sharing any Information vital or valuable about myself, job, or base. But the air station is very large and has been here a long long time. Sharing its location is as easy as a Google search or a tour guide. Parts of this base are public even. It's no secret. Thank you for your concern and you certainly seem to know what you're talking about. But once again, you need not worry. I apologize for posting in the wrong thread. Was wondering where to put it. My Apologies.

Congrads on finishing boot camp! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise, it's an accomplishment to be proud of.

A few tips from an old vet, to help your time in-service:

1. You don't know anything right now. You may THINK you know stuff fresh out of the schoolhouse, but you don't. Real training starts at your first duty station.

2. Figure out who runs the show in your unit. In the Army, it was the career E-4/E-5s who were the go-to people. Sure, the Company Commander is in charge, but if you **** off your supply clerk, life becomes hell.

3. On that note, never **** off the cooks, supply clerk, armorer, mailroom person, or orderly room people. Those folks can make your service time a living hell. They have a rough job as is, so cut em some slack.

4. Do not buy a car in the town you are stationed in. You will get ripped off. If the dealer says "We need your payment by allotment", run.

5. Don't get married to a girl/guy from the town you are stationed in. There are exceptions to that, but for the most part, the people chasing after junior enlisted for a ring are wanting benefits, not a life partner.

6. Get out of the barracks/dorm, but be smart about it. MWR generally hosts some decent tours and such, and you don't want to be known as a barracks rat. Just be careful...generally as a rule, if you start seeing posted signs with stuff like "We report drunk troops to the MPs", that's your cue to leave.

7. Start a rainy day fund right now. Plan for when you finally leave the service. The civilian world will change on you!

8. When it comes time to re-up, don't let a bonus payout be the deciding factor. Only reup if you want a career.

That's bout it from the top of my head. Plenty of vets, active duty, and reservists play EVE, from all different countries. Make some connections and have fun!

I'll add that if you get offered anything that ends up getting you a qualification go do it.

Doesn't NAVY stand for "Never Again Volunteer Yourself?"

...sorry...the Marine in me just can't resist...

Muscles Are Required, Intelligence Not Expected, or My Ass Rides In Navy Equipment

From my branch, it's either Uncle Sam Ain't Released Me Yet, or if you're a smart alec and read it backwards, Yes, My ******** Ass Signed Up.

Still haven't found one for the Civilians In Uniform (Air Force) yet.

Also, since we're going here, newb OP, it's totally cool for you to make fun of other branches now. It's all in good fun. HOWEVER, if you catch a civvie trying to pull the same, you are obligated to form an Ad Hoc Joint Service Action with every other military person nearby, and re-educate the civilian by any means necessary.

Vets, of course, get a pass, we get to make fun of ANYONE still in uniform, we paid our dues!

Thanks for the tips guys! Being with marines is good fun, a lot of giving each other a hard time. Though we team up on air force if they give a sailor or a marine trouble. I can't wait for my first duty station. Hoping for Japan. And finding eve players is amazing. Found a couple so far. Apparently there are plenty in the service. I can see that's true... xD

Ahh, something important I forgot to tell you, youngling.

I know you're likely a Navy guy and all, but...go out and buy a woobie. You need one. Trust me.
