A role for exploration?

Greetings all

I've come back to EVE and I'm obsessed with the notion of making an Amarr toon who specialises in Khanid Innovations ships; i.e. Vengeance, Sacrilege, Anathema, Damnation. Now, I can see a role for the T2 cruiser and Battlecruiser, but is there a role for exploration and perhaps stealth bombers? I can see a role in a 0.0 corp scanning hidden belts and complexes maybe. Anything else?

Thanks in advance and fly safe!

I'm trying to figure out what you mean by "is there a role". Are you asking if you can do exploration/stealth bombing in those ships? To do stealth bombing, you will need a stealth bomber (the Purifier in this case). Exploration can be done in most hulls, depending on how you go about it.

One thing I will say, however, is that by artificially limiting yourself to a specific subset of ships, you are limiting what you can do in Eve. Unless you're limiting yourself for RP reasons, consider branching out into other areas.

Hey mxzf

Thanks for your reply. I should have been clearer. My question is, to your mind, is focusing on the exploration/stealthy aspects of EVE worthwhile? Is there an interesting role to play in corps? Do corps need scouts, stuff scanned down etc.?

For PvE, the Pilgrim is the go-to exploration ship. And it is quite profitable, if unpredictable. Some T3 setups can out do the Pilgrim in some aspects of exploration, but it's really hard to get an All in One exploration fit on anything else.

For PvP, covops ships are invaluable as scouts. It's hard, and generally thankless (as in no killmails), but fleets depend on competent scouts to find fights for them and watch for backup when a fight has started.

The Curse is pretty awesome in PVP. It dies a lot, but that's because it's a threat.

Edit: If you're new...Recon ships are very expensive and are skill intensive. The Pilgrim depends on solid drone, cap, armor, neut, EWAR, and navigation skills. Also, it's difficult to fit it sensibly without Recon 5 (a month long train). I recommend you find a T1 ship that you like flying for PvE until you get very familiar with what you're doing and get your skills up. The Arbitrator flies a lot like the Pilgrim, with no stealthing. Good for practice.

And Wormhole corps depend heavily on everyone probing stuff down, so having decent probing/covops skills is handy there. The money is pretty great as well once you find a good corp to run with.

I know sometimes it's difficult to realize just how much you spend on incidental things each month or year, but seriously, EVE is very cheap entertainment compared to most things... If you are a smoker, smoke one less pack a week and pay for EVE, with money left over to pick up a cheap bundle of flowers for the EVE widow upstairs.

simple answer for you. for 'is there a roll'

Hit the info for large armor repair.
Go to variations.
Go down towards the bottom of the list.
right click on clem's modified large armor repair and then go to 'see in contracts'
you will notice that this particular item goes for quite a large amount of money. that's the kinda stuff a scout can find in nulsec.

you'll find the answer to your question in this little quest of mine ^_^

also, yes, bombers are awesome (my favorite ship type). If you get good at them you can do a lot of different stuff with them.

as far as khanid ships, they are good, but have some serious issues with some PVE encounters. Namely that they like to be very very close to your enemy. the reason the drake is popular (aside from its HUGE tank) is that has a range that is greater than most hostiles in missions or other encounters. That range adds to its considerable tank. This is opposed to Khanid ships which you need to be close enough to wave from your window to the hostile pilots. Still, the Khanid HAC (sacrilege) is a fine piece of engineering and you'll be quite happy with.

hope I'm helpful.

Also, not mentioned above.
For cloaky people also train Cyno to V (it's also a fairly long skill) and you can do black ops, hot dropping you mates on (not so unsuspecting tbh) enemies.

Cloaky ships in and of themselves are worthwhile, combine it with covert cyno skills and you're golden.

Hey Chiana

That is disgusting and pure evil. I really love it! Pirate

I'm really excited about getting this career path up and running! Thanks.

As well as the Pilgrim being an excellent solo exploration ship, it is also a very nasty solo pirating shipTwisted
As mentioned it does require a decent investment of SP, but it is well worth it.
Also works well in small gangs and black-ops hot-drops.

Good luck, and happy hunting.

Exploration is the most fun I've ever had in my time in eve, probing, cloaky pvp, wormholes and all that, it's just great to have every day a different experience, gives you a chance to use the clusterf**k of skills you end up learning if you're new and unfocused :P

I've mined, fought, harvested, salvaged, hacked, in all races ships with all weapon types, it's a riot :P
