Out of Pod Experience

I have been playing eve now for over a year and have really been enjoying it.
But I never got into eve because I liked space ships, I got into eve because I wanted to see and understand what to expect from the developers who at the time were making World of Darkness Online.

I have been a white wolf fan for about a decade longer then I have been an Eve online fan.
As a bit of a comparison, those of you who have played eve since the beginning,
imagine if CCP was bought out by another company....

This was the feeling a lot of us white wolf fans felt all those years ago when CCP bought white wolf.
It was relieved by the fact that they were seemingly making something amazingly awesome.
But that dream died when the long suspected announcement came of the game's cancellation.
The worst part is after so many years of resting our entire hopes and dreams for the future of a franchise we love so much solely on WoD online we suddenly realized that there was now nothing left in the works for anything world of darkness now that our beloved Table Top company was owned by a video games company.

This is when I discovered Project Vaulderie, a fan attempt to revitalize a video game that touched the hearts and imaginations of sooo many, creating such a massive cult following that modding and patching never stopped over 10 years after its released.
These men and women from Project Vaulderie have stated from the beginning that they aren't seeking to steal profits or revenue from either CCP or Activision, they simply want to provide those of us who have been abandoned with a simmer of light for the world white wolf created.

I am personally outraged that you CCP have given them a cease and desist, considering that you yourself have recently declared yourself an "Eve only company" now.
They are not eating into any of your currently pursued markets, nor do you need to spend any money to let them do their thing.
At worst, let them charge for project vaulderie and take a sizeable chunk from each sale as licensing fees.

OR i dont know, maybe license these obviously passionate folk to make something WoD for you thats completely fresh and new. Either way don't snuff out the last remaining flame of a community as hardcore as Eve's when you have already done so much to destroy it.

Without going into headache inducing moral dilemmas of copyrights, I find odd CCP wouldnt bother with at least allowing certain modifications to go free in the wild. Unless the project was specifically asking for "moneyz" I don´t see a problem.

Warband has a HUGELY popular mod based off The Game of Thrones world (which is quite bigger than the WoD IP) I don´t see people anywhere enforcing Cozur to shut it down, and he actually takes "donations" with which he has hired pro artists to develop art assets for the mod, and it keeps growing.

CCP taking this stance sounds , at least from your side of the story and the one portrayed in their page, kinda TROLLISH and actually a bit heavy handed, reminding me a bit of the foul ogres from GamesWorkshop ...

It´s their IP, but honestly, really? A reworking of an old engine based game? Unless there is another side to this story no one is showing, yeah, I agree that CCP seems a bit ... well, not "good" and as usual, kinda detached from reality.


But then again, it´s CCP ...

My guess with the fire and ice mod is they wrote to Martin and asked for permission. Martin being a single dude and prolly was not going to make any time of game like that could of easily said go for it. It would of been stupid simple to get permission.

Whereas, the other project clearly did not have ccp's approval, and as ccp is a video game company this could of been seen as a direct competition. The developers should now send a formal request to license or have permission to finish said game. But its ccp's ip, they can do whatever they want with it.

Screw you for doing this, CCP Games.

CCP is just a typical corporation. And considering all the recent mess, isn't the best one. You can't expect any high morale examples from a typical corporation. Especially a bad one.

So... they went to remake a game that came out 2004, didn't bother to get in touch with the IP owners and act all surprised when they are suddenly slapped with a C&D letter? I frankly do not see the problem here.

If you are going to make a fan-made version of a existing IP, you damn better get in touch with the IP owners before you start putting in any work into it.

It's all part of the grand CCP strategy to give the franchise its final death. The goal is to ensure that by the time they actually manage to make a game out of it, most people have forgotten about it and the fans are so angered, that they won't buy it anymore simply out of spite.

Op, you and your White Wolf buddies just got ganked by CCP...Welcome to Eve.

I think CCP ought to pay money for WoD production, not receive it. They should fork over some kickstarter cash as reparations.
