Greetings all,

I am new to EVE online and have just launched into the tutorials. My impression of the game during the initial tutorials was quite positive until I encountered some problems.

The following issues arose: one related to EVE University, the other related to Support.

I was considering buying this game and looking forward especially to the EVE University course: "Open lowsec roam with Apothne of Pandemic Legion (1 ½ to 2 hours)". I installed Mumble and EVE login instructions said to use forum password (which works for game / website). Password did not work for Mumble and I used both my in-game char name and my Eve login name ID. I double-checked my in-game char name, made sure the password was input correctly, alas nothing worked for EVE University or Mumble. EVE username did not work as well.

Again, as a comparison, my information/password works for game & web forums.

I tried to put in a Support Ticket. But that failed too and I tried multiple times. I get an EVE splash screen that reads:

"500 Internal Server Error : Error, something went wrong".

I hope an Administrator or someone who has a solution sees this since these issues are of concern to me. Especially the inability to put in support tickets due to 500 internal server errors and also the failure to access EVE University.

Thank you kindly in advance for any assistance and information you can provide regarding these matters.

Bear in mind that EVE University is not run by CCP, the DEVs, or the GMs.
It is a player owned corporation (see: "guild") that is run by players.

Mumble itself is also not owned by CCP. It is a 3rd party audio chatroom where players can rent and use various channels... just like Teamspeak and Ventrilo. So your in-game usename and password will not work.

The password and other info you seek to access Mumble should come from EVE University itself. You should contact them about it via in-game EVE-mail or one of their in-game chat channels (not the GMs or through the support ticket system).

For clarity :

Did you register with the EVE-University website or are you trying to use your EVE Online log-in information?

EVE-Uni is a player run corporation and not a division of CCP.

We have two Mumble servers.

The regular EVE University Mumble server requires registration through our forums to use. Due to this sometimes the syncing between our forums and our mumble server can be delayed.

The EVE University Public Mumble server does not require registration at all and is immediately available the moment you set it up. This is where we hold all of our public classes.

Here are the details for our Mumble: EVE University Mumble info

I am aware of the fleet in question but I don't know which Mumble server it was run on for fleet comms. I suspect it was actually on the Public server, but I may be wrong on that.

Thank you for the detailed response. I think I understand where you are coming from, but to clarify, are you saying there is no connection to what is occurring on EVE online & EVE University? The reason I'm puzzled is that these courses were advertised through links on the official website. It appears to me there is a symbiotic relationship with the EVE online official game and EVE University.

Secondly, the instructions on the EVE Online website for entry into the game specifically directs the player to sign into Mumble with the Forums password. The way I get into the Forums is via the official EVE Online game username / password.

"5. When prompted for your password, use your forum password! " <-- quote of instructions.

Again, there was no EVE University registration requirements mentioned in order to attend. I've looked around, and perhaps it's because I'm new, I did not see it. If you can provide a link to the registration area that would be greatly appreciated.

Also, the Support concern is still out there since I've tried to send a ticket multiple times to official EVE Online support and in response I get 500 Server Error splash screens.

Thanks again for your response and I'll continue to look into the matter and find out what I can learn.

Thank you kindly for the information. It was unclear from the course page which Mumble server to use. There was only a link to the overall set-up instructions.

After unsuccessfully attempting to work with the instructions linked from the course page regarding set-up and requirement to enter Mumble via Forums password, which is the first set-up instructions given in order to attend classes, it was too late to join the class anyway.

Toward the bottom of the instructions there is mention of the public Mumble and perhaps that might have been better, I did not get a chance to try it since the course had come and gone.

If that is the best channel to use, it might be an easier introduction to new players (such as myself) if the course page gives a link to public Mumble set-up specific to EVE University offerings.

BTW: for use the EVE University log-in server it says to use the "Forums password". Is that the official EVE Online account set-up password which I enter with my username to enter the EVE Forums? Also, for EVE University log-in server requiring password, do I use in-game char name (Venator Novacian) or do I use my account username?

Thanks again for your response and look forward to hearing from you on the additional questions.

A. EVE Uni is a PLAYER ran corporation NOT an official CCP thing.

B. You will need to use your EVE Uni forum password and accountname....NEVER your actual account name and password.

Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy

Help channel: Help chat - Reloaded

Public roams channels: RvB Ganked / Redemption Road / Spectre Fleet / Bombers bar / The Content Club

Yes. Again. EVE uni is a player ran initiative that is endorsed by but not officially ran by CCP.

So CCP, other then the normal EULA / ToS rules, has no control on what EVE Uni does and how they run stuff, how they use 3rd party applications (VoIP, etc) and all the other stuff.

Also. Stop mixing up the game and official forums with anything supplied by EVE Uni.
They expect you to use the forumname and password to THEIR forums (and thus in their database) not the ones you use for official EVE / CCP stuff.

Pro tip for web data security: Do not use the same account name and especially not the same password when you use a 3rd party service attached to a primary service. In this case, it is very unwise to use the same password you use for your EVE account for any 3rd party operated EVE services, such as EVE-Uni, zKillboard, or a myriad of other websites. If the security of the 3rd party website is compromised (or if the owner is not a nice person), your password may fall into the hands of someone who can/may log in to your EVE account as yourself. You will not only lose your stuff, but your account may get auto-banned, requiring a lot of time and GM help to put it back together. Such an occurence is often labeled as "hacking" your account, but it is very often traceable to unsafe web security practices.

So, please: be careful with your login credentials.

EVE University Forums (player run)

EVE Online Forums (CCP run)

See the difference? Smile

The EVE-Uni forums will require a separate account registration that is, in no way, linked to your EVE Online account. Though... it is a good idea to at least use your in-game character's name.

Quoting for emphasis.

If you wanted to, you could start your own teaching corp, and call it "The University of Venator Novacian", or the "Venator Novacian Institute of Technology", or whatever Big smile You could appoint yourself dean, and train people in anything you wanted, or just scam them out of tuition fees / taxes.

EVE University has a long history of selfless players helping other players to enjoy EVE more.

Our Public Mumble server doesn't require any form of registration. Our Public Mumble is not synced with our forums. This is the Mumble server we use for our classes. There will be a few exceptions where a class won't be public.

Our regular E-UNI Mumble does. You have to register from in-game (through the in-game browser, or IBG) at http://forum.eveuniversity.org/register. Please note that you cannot register out-of-game. Our process will generate you your username and email you a password (which you will want to change). Our regular E-UNI Mumble is synced with our forums which is why registration is needed.

Our forums, wiki, and other tools are separate from CCP/EVE Online. As everyone has indicated do not use the same information for login and password as other sites you access.

When we post information about upcoming classes we do try and include all the relevant information, requirements, and links that will allow you to attend. For the majority it's simply having Mumble installed and accessing our Public Mumble server. You'll also want to be in-game and accessing our chat channel called "Lecture.E-UNI" as questions are put into that channel in-game for the teacher, and the teacher and others will provide links and such.

We had a marathon of classes occur yesterday so in the short preparation time it is possible that some information was missed on a given class's announcement/post.

EVE Online post on E-UNI Public classes.

EVE University wiki information on our classes.

EVE University forum classes page.

Feel free to hang out in our public help channel in-game, called "E-UNI". You will find this chat channel listed under the Help channels. We do announce our classes in that channel, and we do have permission to announce classes in the regular English Help channel.
