Is there any point to mining in low-sec or is the risk/reward not there?

A couple of people tell me that the real "jump" in the risk/reward comes when you mine in nullsec.

Thanks.

Anomaly mining in low sec has potential but you really need a system nobody goes to and they aren't as abundant as some would trick you in to believing. Most are roamed and don't have static populations but you will find yourself hiding more than mining once they figure out you are there and start camping you.

Really though, you might as well mine high sec anomalies. Time lost and hair from playing paranoid Online in low just doesn't strike me as a fair trade.

Nope. The only real benefit to lowsec is the better reprocessing array (54%>52% in highsec) and there's more of an abundance of materials (and rarer ones are more common), but highsec ores are worth the most, even over null. Nullsec has an even bigger benefit of a 60%(?) refining outpost, but that's only in sov null and costs a fair bit (few billion).

You have to be practically insane to mine in lowsec as the danger is incredibly high and the payout just isn't that good.

I do it all the time.

Only when you have a rather large group of blues around you 'controlling' the system you're in.

Solo not recommended.

I read that mining in wh anomalies was worth it but that's something I haven't done yet.

Nope.

One word: Veldspar.

I do not like the men on this spaceship. They are uncouth and fail to appreciate my better qualities. I have something of value to contribute to this mission if only they would realize it. - Bill Frug

I've mined in low before. It's about finding the right system, usually a dead-end one with low traffic and absolutely a station. Stay away from Caldari space. You can even jetcan mine with a Miasmos.

However, I did end up getting blown up as new residents moved in, certainly that is something to take into consideration. But the mining value of Jaspet is a good bit higher than that of high-sec ores.

Nah.

Youre looking at a difference of about 20M per hour going for jaspet, and that's assuming youre left alone, dont need to go hide, etc. Stick to hisec if you wanna mine.

Only mine in low-sec if you want to learn the ropes of how to survive as hunted game in a hostile environment or if you are bait to hunt the hunters.

No, especially now that ore sites don't need to be scanned down.

You take flak from everywhere when you try. Lowsec is the ghetto of EvE and as you are undertaking the most hated profession in EvE you'll have a bad time.

Lowsec dwellers will instantly try for an easy kill
Bored nullsec players will try to hotdrop you
Bored nullsec players hunting lowsec players will without a doubt come after you with 5 billion isk covert T3's
I will personally see the rats you killed and log off by them after I scare you away...everything is clear!
I'm assuming you are solo ratting, you'll find the battleship rats annoying unless you want to sacrifice yield for tank......and then you make less isk!

Plus as people already said, you'll only make a few more isk per hour in the very best case scenario, but odds are you'll end up upside down and on fire or only mining 10 minutes out of every hour.

Yeah don't go to lowsec. All lowsec has is Russians chasing you with their ancillary shield boosters.

Oh, I perfectly understand, Hal Morsh — a mission like this requires courage, skill, and heroism… qualities you are clearly lacking. Have you forgotten you're one of the bloody immortals!?

Chances are that you're not the 1% of people who do it with a profit. You have higher chances to join a nullsec corp.

Ordinarily I would suggest you to try hisec ice mining, but there's oversupply of it and market is behaving erratically. Give a try to plagioclase, it's the ore of the moment.

With the current state of mining and the static behavior of resource collection, low sec is not the most optimal place for most to mine. Some do so and do it quite successfully. They tend to be groups that have some area control, defense, intel groups, and over arching plan beyond going to belts and grabbing ore.

I'd like it to be a better, more interesting set of options, creating a task that matches the mechanics and potentials of low sec.

Yes, with a scram, lots of tank and friends close by. Can be fun.

Maybe make friends with the locals and offer to be bait for them.

It can be done but you need to search dotlan for quiet systems. Don't go into Factional Warfare regions.

What are all you people talking about?

Mining in low-security empire is amazing! There is soooooooo much money to be made here. I mean, just the other day some of my weaker ridiculously bad friends made the jump from high-sec to low-sec. They are making a killing mining belts and belts of untouched ore. It's like a freaking gold mine out here.

You should totally ignore the previous 10 or 20 posts. These guys are not experts in rock. Trust me, I will guide you. Smile
